I think making good anime is not a pushing practice, I for one don't believe by labelling and pushing anime which is ecchi and boobs oriented to a corner translates to a season of 'better, deep, good storytelling' anime. It will certainly reduce the number of harem shows maybe, but it also might not.

imo, whatever the case, I'd wish that the law be repealed and challenged until they throw it out.

Stop talking about the law already.

Not as much this season as last season, but I'm probably gonna check out Madoka, Stratos, Beelzebub, and Zombie.

Apparently, Thomas the Tank Engine isn't one to take crap from anyone.

a warning about Hourou Musuko/Wandering Son: If you have had issues with gender identity, some parts WILL be painful. But it will definitely make you care about the protagonist.

... Maybe he meant in the sense of having sexual identity issues.

There was a short trailer for Ao no Exorcist after Star Driver this week, and I am impressed by the quality, this looks like the guys who did DOGS and I reckon the story is Index like, but with Gantz and more serious DTB style storytelling.

There'a a trailer out for Rio. Wow, I can't believe I'm saying this, but somehow this show looks even worse than I was expecting. Cleavage, bouncing boobs, an unattended loli running rampant in the casino. How does shit like this get green-lighted?

You know, I might be alone in this, but I think this type of anime is the reason why Haruhi was created - a show that simultaneously tries something fresh and new while at the same time satirizing overplayed anime tropes.

This stuff gets green-lighted because it's easy to make and it gets watched. It's the low-hanging fruit. Titties = eyes on the screen.

I plan on ripping my heart apart with wandering son and then repairing it with kimi ni todoke 2

gosick and fractale are maybes

EDIT: also

Quote
Stu?pid shojo. I don?t think my prob?lem comes fun?da?ment?ally from the shojo genre as a whole. It?s the ste?reo?typ?ical shojo fair that I have no time for. That is what Kimi ni Todoke is, and I simply have no patience for that at all.

yesss I love sweeping generalizations that grossly underdefine a show and make it look bad to people who don't know what it is

Eh, I thought Kimi no Todoke wasn't exactly shojo but it did get pretty repetitive. Just how many times can you watch the protagonist gasp and launch into a reverie of flowers and butterflies every time someone so much as says "Hi" to her?

Also, not related to this season at all but it did make me smile:

well yeah because it IS a shojo show. but the description is a heavily biased, bigoted point of view that reflects negatively upon a show just because the guy doesn't like that style of animu. imo if someone is going to summarize a season, they should at least fairly describe each show instead of acting like a jackass.

That is true; if you're problem is with a genre - or the "standard fare" of said genre - then just don't review it. Good critics review tons of genres they don't actually care for, but they judge it on the merits of the genre's expectations. Like, if I don't like action films, I can still recognize what the elements of a "good" action film are supposed to be, and critique an action film based on those criteria. If a critic hates a genre so much that they just can't do this, then they should just avoid reviewing anything from that genre altogether.

This is Rio we're talking about here, I don't think it's possible to expect anything better than what you're already seeing.

Given that her game series is pretty much pachinko with boobs and lolis. ::)

You know, I might be alone in this, but I think this type of anime is the reason why Haruhi was created - a show that simultaneously tries something fresh and new while at the same time satirizing overplayed anime tropes.

I guess Haruhi does the satirizing thing pretty well? I didn't find it quite as fresh and entertaining as a lot of folks did though... I guess I might have been spoiled by the Haruhu print media >_>

well yeah because it IS a shojo show. but the description is a heavily biased, bigoted point of view that reflects negatively upon a show just because the guy doesn't like that style of animu.

Yeah, seriously. While stuff like that is kinda sad to see... I can't really defend the show that roughly either... I personally found the anime a huge snoozefest in comparison to the manga, but that's just my personal taste talking here and I'm not really looking to pick any fights here. >_>

Which reminds me: I still haven't seen the movie yet, nor the second Eden of the East movie. So with Bakuman going still, and Bakemonogatari to catch up on, Gosick and Fractale is more than enough for me to follow right now.

The 10th volume of the Haruhi Series, The Surprise of Haruhi Suzumiya, is set for a 2 volume release on May 25th, 2011. Thirteen other countries are set to release translated copies on the same day.

I admit most of my fandom of Haruhi comes from the novels, which I read over the course of winter break 2007. I haven't read all of the 9th one :/

Just why exactly isn't there an anime with art directed by Akira-sensei (or with UDK) with focus on the cross dressing boys of Cherry Girls cast, along with a musical score worthy of Kanon/Air/Key in general being made? Actually, scratch that, why is Cherry Girls not yet even a comic book?!

I can't wait for Infinite Stratos, after looking at the PV I am confirmed this will be a silent hit, (maybe something Strike Witches even, spanning a few seasons long simply because it can).

So far, Lovecraftian 4 minute short Nyaruko is somewhat disappointing, aside from the ED song, which I find hardly appealing enough... it is getting all... uninspired. Thank god for lovecraftian references.
