OK. Warning, I am out of practice, so this isn't really the best I can do. But I think it serves to illustrate this might work. I added a 5ish second gap at the start so I could prepare and get everything minimized so Audacity doesn't do dumb stuff. It might not be a bad idea to tap out a beat at the start of the recording in the future, like two measures of it.

EDIT: Relistened to it. Sorry, it's worse than I thought. I'll try to put out something better sometime this week.

Here's a two-measures-tapped-out version. Uh, unfortunately in the excitement I not only didn't actually start the piece itself on a real beat, but also have a hiccup towards the end. If you don't like it, I'll re-record. Also, I'll have to get a better microphone setup, but that'll have to wait 'til Saturday.

I dunno if you want another alto sax (that would be me), but I think one alto sax in a JAZZ band isn't enough

So like, yeah. you want a recording or something?
I also play the cello, but that seems kinda... weird for a jazz band.

Well, it mostly depends on the concentrations of other instruments. Above all we need a balance, which seems hard to reach right now. Regardless, I'll put you down and figure out how to make it work. To be honest I'm considering revolving instrumentation so that most of us can play, and having multiples of the same instrument only when necessary. Course, this also means I need to figure out how to get all the recording stuff to work properly.

Oh, and learn how to play sax again :V. Need to get back in the habit of practicing, really.

EDIT: Huh...actually, multiple instruments can work with the distribution we have, I think.

Oh, about how to make the music work.
If you give everyone music and a tempo, they can record it separately, and putting them all together will be a piece of cake. Glenn Miller style.
However, (improvised) solos and just plain jamming would be hard, because skype and other suck programs have about a second of lag, so staying in time will be impossible.
I'll upload me playing something tomorrow. (when it isn't almost one in the morning)

So, anyway, here's the deal. I'm juggling lots of stuff at the moment and am not sure when I can kick this off. Regardless, I should be able to do more organizating after the New Year. So, short hiatus on the planning until New Years (though feel free to propose ideas).

I know I forgot to post somewhere. Yeah, we will be. I'll see if I can produce something slightly better tomorrow to tests Fightest's thing. From there I guess I need to figure out if I'm going to cut anyone or just do it as "This piece needs X parts. You, you, and you fight over Part Y, the rest of you are fine since their is no contention"

I'm leaning towards the latter.

Oh hey I kept my promise! Thank Umineko's "far", which is surprisingly easy on sax. Remind me to get a decent recording of that sometime.

This is significantly better than the other one, though far from perfect.

I would like everyone to play a little improv for me and upload it on their preferred instrument

Ask Fightest for a key. I'd like this over 3 sets of 12 bar blues, or 36 measures. Then play over Fightest's recording to see how they gel. From there I'll figure out what styles suit who, and I can sorta break things down into sub bands for certain pieces.

Ran four sample tests trying to test out the MIDI recording box that I have in Audacity.

I will do more improvs, maybe some riffs. Guitar testing will be done when I finish replacing the strings on it.

This is mostly done by finger, but some slapping caused it to peak several times on one of the tests, I think....
