8-Bit Touhou MIDI Edits
« on: June 30, 2010, 05:30:35 AM »
Okay, so I use GXSCC to mess around with MIDIs. So sue me. Though I am a musician,  I'll admit I don't have the skills or the patience to try and make my own MIDIs, and without MIDI input to the PC it is difficult to use such software to actually manipulate the sound. So all I can do is 8-bitify things and take out instruments. Doing so, I discovered I was wrong about ZUN losing his music-making touch after the PC-98 games. He just uses loud trumpets and organ things to cover up his amazing talent. It was fairly easy to do this once I got the hang of it
Honestly, though, ZUN can be a tricky bastard when it comes to his MIDIs. Just take a listen to all of these, you'll be impressed.

Notes: Sounds like hard battle ahead. Do your best to dodge danmaku during the epic fight.

This first one is my Hiroari Shoots at Strange Bird ~ Til When? Edit. I took out some of the main melody to give it a great stage theme intro. If I ever do get around to actual MIDI making this will be something I will do right.

Notes: Sounds to me like snow in a Winter Wonderland. This sounds as easy on the ears as it would to anyone.

Ahh................. This one has a special place in my heart. I dedicate this one to my friend Kim~
Remember, I did not add any instruments or sound, quite the opposite, in fact. I took out the main guitar synth/harpsichord and the organs (Organs? IDK what they are..... the really high pitched things at the start.). This was actually my first 8-Bit edit, I haven't found anything as beautiful since this, either....
Notice how different it sounds. And the two-part chorus is almost completely gone, with only the bassline remaining from it. Much, much softer.

Notes: Meh. This is Master Spark stage theme edit. Not my best work. Considering it WAS a stage theme, It wasn't hard to do.

I will be posting more here when I upload again, which could be tonight I guess, I dunno. Please give me feedback on this.

I really like the Maid and the Pocket Watch of Blood edit - it definitely does sound a lot softer.
Although maybe because of this, I feel the drum sort of gets in the way at times, but taking it out would be bad because I also feel it's very necessary at other times.
Oh, by the way. I've found some new tea.

Wow, pretty cool amigo. I never realized how many underlying melody's those songs had.
