Pack your bags and get ready to rock, 'cause Otakon 2010's just around the corner and this time no amount of sunscreen will save you.

Home Made Kazoku will be the big-name musical guest on Sunday, other musical guests have yet to be announced.

Barring cataclysmic events, I will be attending this year's Otakon yet again.  Maybe this year I won't be so distracted by my roommates that I'll actually be able to find some of you people.

Psh, find one of the toubros in that area to carpool with.  I think Suzuran from #sm IRC is going again, and he's in that area.

too far away etc

Sounds like a great opportunity for a road trip!

Or in a car... or hidden in a corner of the convention center.

I have a friend who drives longer distances regularly, and I introduced him to Touhou, though he doesn't really know anything about it outside of Perfect Cherry Blossom or any of the characters' names :P

Then again it is an anime con, he may be up for it. *shrug*

Did you know, they negotiated a 5% discount on "all flights booked through American Airlines"?  They have a coupon code you can use once you pre-register.

Baltimore has a really nice hostel, it's only $30 per night for a dorm bunk plus free Wifi, pancake breakfast, etc.  Cheap and pretty nice inside.

Hostels are really nice, though.

You're in luck! Plenty of people sleep on the streets of Baltimore. I doubt you'll have much trouble making pals.

I stopped by there literally a week and a half ago, and the guestbook had entries from some international guests basically saying it's the "best hostel in the U.S.".  It's a very old and beautiful place, right in the middle of what's probably the nicest area of downtown Baltimore.

Though at this point I wonder if there's still room available.

I do wish I were going, but it's not going to happen this year. All government employees are alotted the last week of June and the first three weeks of July for vacation.

I *can* however heartily recommend checking out The Fudgery to see people sing while making fudge. You might also want to check out Fell's Point (during the day - at night it turns into a sea of frat idiots) or take the light rail up to Mt. Washington.

Hoping to go and contribute far more than I did last year in an only semi-disgraceful manner. However, I have to get approval for two full days off from the powers-that-be beforehand. Still very much looking forward to it and expecting to go because I can dump all my stat points into Charisma for brief periods of time in order to beg convince them that I deserve the days off.

Aw man, the memories of last year. Four guys operating on less than 2 hours of sleep (none of whom have showered), driving nearly 400 miles to a dorkfest fueled by nothing more than a few doughnuts and tater tots. Listening to Alstroemeria, theorizing on whether one occupant has botulism or not based on the way he sleeps, and making fun of New Jersey allllll the way down the Jersey Turnpike. AND THAT WAS ONLY THE CAR RIDE DOWN!

I'mma find your car as you drive
I'mma drive up next to you and flash an OTAKON OR BUST sign
You're gonna be all like OH SNAP KINDRED MOTHERFUCKING SPIRITS
and you'll flash me some thumbs-up and shit or whatever non-Jersey people do, I don't know, nothing matters outside of fist-pumping
Then I'mma key your car as you drive.  Both sides, the hood, and the trunk.

I'mma key it with a key that's been epoxied and taped to the end of a pole, kinda like a spear, so that I can safely key your car from the next lane over.

And you wanna know the best part?

We'll pass at least two speed traps, and the cops won't care.

I think MJP and I are at the Holiday Inn? Maybe?
We did Days Inn last year and it's just way too small for 4 people if anyone has more than a dufflebag worth of stuff (guilty as charged) and double so if two are unwilling to share a bed with each other  :o

HATERS GONNA HATE
Okay, but someone's gotta prove to me that NJ is more than smokestacks, tollbooths, and warehouses. It's also the place that my dreaded senior project adviser was unceremoniously shipped off to and I know George Carlin had his own reasons for making an album entitled "What am I Doing in New Jersey".

That looks real sweet! I hope I can make my Yumemi cross half as good. Then again, my 'workshop' is 100% small hand tools stolen from home improvised so I'm happy to be able to do any of this sorta thing at all.

I usually try to come up with some sort of cosplay, but I procrastinate and leave it for the last minute and then it winds up sucking so I scrap it.  Probably won't even bother this year.
