Not really, these games are really intuitive actually. Just trial and error.

Except the combat system involves buffs/debuffs, special effects, special skills, varying range and damage which can change under certain conditions, and combos/special mission requirements you'll need an online guide to even know exist.

If it were something like Fire Emblem where everything was just "Pick weapon. Bop enemy on head. End turn." I could do it, but it's not.

Fire Emblem has a simplicity to it, But when you try you -can- get as deep a system from it as well. Admittedly, SRW does have some incredibly insane Secrets. Quote, Z.

Anyway, Really all you need to know to have fun is 'Morale means super moves, Energy and ammo are for weapons, and beams are blocked by beam shields.' I don't think this'll get anywhere near complex as SRT itself, though.

BTW I'm confused about something, sorry if it's slightly offtopic. but I only just heard of SRW, and I read somewhere that it was to Gundam as Macross is to Robotech. Is that a pile of dung? I'm confused because from what I've seen and read based on this thread, it sure seems like it.

No. Its not even comparable, being both not an anime of any sort, and incorporating all three series in it. Its an incredible strategy mashup of many different mecha anime, with a tinge of originality. If you think thats at all like gundam, You need help.

Its a strategy game involving giant robots and incredibly flashy special moves. If you need more information than that it probably won't strike your fancy.

@G: SRW/SRT Alpha Gaiden for the PS1. Still not counting the massive amounts of untranslated SRT games on the PS2, GBA, PSP, Wii, and the Xbox360. I won't be able to list them all.

To give my two cent's on the translation issue, Touhou fans are much, much more active than the SRT counterparts. We should have the gameplay translated in a short amount of time. After all, we have at least 1 SRT fan here...

Not really, sure you'll make it to Mission 40 with the basic knowledge of the game and planning ahead a little, but there's no way you'll beat the last three stages without the in-depth knowledge about gameplay. Case-in-point: SRW OG2.
