It doesn't qualify as a fanfic, but more of an outline of things that I have written about Gensokyo's history. It's painfully incomplete, most of them are fan made. If something is Canon, then it shall be painted red. Assume that it can be found in the Touhou wiki (often in PMiSS or some other place).

If it is painted green, the character exists within accepted fanon, but the event is not. In other words, a fanonical character that is not made by me that is using a storyline that I've made. To be clear:
Accepted Fanon:
Fanon that does not openly contradict any pre-existing canon fact. (As of writing)
I.E. Pads joke.

Contradicting Fanon:
Fanon that contradicts a pre-existing canon fact. Like Wriggle being actually a male, but you didn't hear that from me.
I am putting this here because my storage space is fluctuating, and I need a more reliable place where I can pull it anytime I need it. -_-

Take note that I haven't added a timeline (yet), but I do plan to do this everytime I get bored doing Specialis Libri.
Written outline so far: Up til Lunar Invasion, Courtesy of Yakumo Yukari.

1) Lunarian Society established at the Far Side of the Moon*.
*Akyuu noted later in PMiSS (Perfect Memento in Strict Sense) that there is an "ancient metropolis on the far side of the moon."

2) Dissent in Heaven; Gods are divided into factions:
Because of the very fast advancement of the Lunarian society, some gods in heaven were disturbed by the actions of the Lunarian society. However some of the gods preferred to let the Lunarians alone, while others actually wanted to coerce the Lunarians for the greater good of Heaven. Because of this disagreement between gods, they were eventually split into three factions.

The first faction wanted to protect the integrity of the Lunarian Society. Because they have transcended the limits of humans, the members of the first faction believed that it is for the greater good that they aid the Lunarians and gather their faith, thus allowing more power for Heaven.*

*It can then be assumed that this is the main reason for Watatsuki no Yorihime's potent Divine powers.

The second faction is called the neutral faction. This faction believes in the natural order of a deterministic universe; they believe that everything happens in a natural course, and it is not the place of the gods to interfere. As such, they are the watchers of the cosmos, studying the plights and triumphs of humans, but not doing anything to aid triumphs or avert crisis.

The third faction is the complete opposite of the first: they believe that all living beings are subject to the fearsome power of the gods. They view the exodus of the Lunar society as a rebellion to the gods. They were disturbed by the unnatural speed of advancement of the Lunar Society, and the gods of this faction are always asking themselves, 'what if the humans gain the knowledge of the gods? Humans are starting to tap into the secrets of immortality, soon they shall be tempted to test themselves upon the gods, and attain godhood themselves.'

Of course, that is unacceptable to them. The members of the third faction decided to take action against the Lunarian Society. However, they were countered by the members of the First Faction, and a war begins to take solid form.

3) War of the Heavens: This was unnoticed by the humans, however around this time, famine became more common, along with the increased preference of native humans of Earth to become conquerors.*
*It is around this time that the history became filled with Kings and invaders and stuff.

4) A human child named Himiko* was born, who had the ability to be able to converse with gods. Bearing immense wisdom and foresight at a young age, she told her people to pray to avoid famine. Because of the intense prayer of her people, Himiko gained favor upon the gods. She was then able to talk with the gods, and through this, Himiko then learned of the ongoing war of the gods, and its indirect effects upon the Earth and humans.

Forseeing that famines and war will become more prevalent if the gods continued to fight, Himiko decided to quell the fighting of the gods. She was caught in a trance inside her home for almost a year, supposedly her spirit left her body to be able to be able to talk with the gods.

It is unknown how she was able to quell the god's wrath, but when Himiko awoke once more, she told her people to rejoice and celebrate, for the gods had decided to bless them.

Around this time, native gods have started to emerge from the land as small deities which eventually became the Shinrei, the deities of the temples.
*She is based from Himiko.

5) Around this time, the Lunarian capital there was a small group of researchers who wanted to tap into the knowledge of the universe, the concepts of Infinity and Eternity. Supposedly, the knowledge shall enable mortals to enter Heaven and enter the grace of being a Celestial. However, the research was a failure and was abandoned for centuries afterwards.

6) Silence of the Gods of Heaven. During this period, the gods became silent towards mortals. After Himiko's death, human faith started to wane. In the Lunarian Capital, the lunarians became troubled at the apparent silence of the gods and started to find ways to be able to talk with them.

7) Great Suwa War. The silence of the gods were because they were preparing to make war with the native gods that appeared upon the land. Unification of the Gods.

8) Because of the Silence of the Gods, Tsukuyomi told revived the Eternity research, led by Yagakoro Eirin, one of the most intelligent individuals on the Moon. However, they had little fruits of success. "It is impossible," reported Yagakoro. "It is impossible to make something eternal, because it is subject to change, and eventually, destruction. To be able to break that truth is to become a god yourself, but in order to do that, you must be a god already."

One of Yagakoro's friends, Princess Houraisan Kaguya of the Houraisan family had knowledge of Yagakoro's research. Houraisan was known for her beauty...and unspeakable temperance and fickleness. She was raised with utmost care as a princess, becoming a spoiled child in the process. It's because she had the rare ability to control Temporality, the ability to prevent something from changing. However her ability is quite limited, and she could only control it for a 'very' short amount of time.

One day, Houraisan had a childish thought about Yagakoro's research. "Infinity is just extending what already exists, right? So what do you call the state of 'not-changing'? Because Infinity and Eternity just lengthens the existence of something, what would be a good word for something like Super Permanence? If it is possible, I would like to be able to witness something like that myself."

However, this simple thought from Houraisan gave Yagakoro a brainstorm breakthrough on how they could go on with their research. They had always been thinking of Infinity as a mere length, not as a state of being. To be able 'not to change', is something that is within the possibility for the Lunarians. It was the Elixir of Immortality, a forbidden medicine that could grant True Permanence.

Yagakoro knows of Houraisan's ability, and she decided to make use of it to make the Elixir so that it can enhance Houraisan's ability to control Temporality. However, in order to create it, Yagakoro needed Houraisan's present ability, thus it was necessary to include Houraisan within the research project.

After a length of time, Yagakoro managed to encase part of Houraisan's ability in a medicine. However, it was discovered that what Yagakoro managed to make was the forbidden medicine that was banned since time immemorial.

However, before they could dispose of it, Houraisan, out of curiousity and self-interest, imbibed the medicine herself. The authorities soon discovered her act, and she was executed.

Unfortunately, her ability to manipulate Temporality, coupled with Permanence inside the elixir, she became truly invincible--almost healing immediately after being killed. If she was beheaded, it took only a matter of seconds for her severed head to reverse its fall and reattach itself to Houraisan. Poison held little fear for her, as poison would kill her, but immediately reincarnating afterwards until the poison lost its potency as it was eventually excreted by her body.

Unable to kill Houraisan, she was exiled from the moon and sentenced to live with the humans whom they consider inferior. Houraisan was found by an old bamboo cutter, and soon Houraisan began to live as Kaguya-hime, a woman of unworldly beauty.

While Houraisan was exiled, Yagakoro was regretful about the turn of events and hid the research papers, saying that it was destroyed along with the medicine. However, the medicine was still in Houraisan's hands on Earth.

9) Story of the Bamboo Cutter in Japanese lore.Kaguya-hime becomes friendly to humans, eventually winning hearts of numerous men. Fujiwara no Mokou breeds hatred for Kaguya-hime for humiliating his father when his father proposed to marry Kaguya-hime. She then swore vengeance against Kaguya-hime, swearing to take Kaguya-hime's life one day.

10) Around the end of the Story of the Bamboo Cutter, Yagakoro was entrusted by the Lunarian Society to bring back Kaguya-hime from Earth. Her sins had been forgiven, and it would be disgraceful if Kaguya-hime, a princess of the Moon, was sent to live with the humans forever. However, Yagakoro sensed a deeper meaning behind the forgiveness for Kaguya-hime.

11) While gathering her documents while preparing for her journey to Earth, she overheard Tsukoyomi conversing with a fellow researcher. "As soon as Yagakoro leaves for Earth, the messengers will kill her and dispose of Houraisan permanently inside a volcano and trap her there. We must find the documents that Yagakoro had hidden so that we can finally finish the Eternity research."

12) Yagakoro slipped from the premises of the research facility without being noticed. Then she destroyed the remains of her Elixir research, and switched it with documents of little value. She then returned to the Capital and left for Earth along with the other Lunar Messengers.

13) When Yagakoro arrived and met Kaguya-hime, Yagakoro then coerces Kaguya-hime to her side and kills the other messengers with her help. She then tells Kaguya-hime's foster parents of the danger* of the Lunarians and then told them that she and Kaguya-hime must go into hiding in order to avoid danger for the mortals.
*then bribes them with the Hourai Elixir to keep them silent

14) Kaguya-hime writes a letter to the Emperor* and gives him a little of the Hourai Elixir**, saying that they will never meet again.
*As stated in the Story of the Bamboo Cutter, she told the Emperor that she was going back to the moon; actually she was going into hiding with Yagakoro
**Elixir of Immortality

15) The Emperor, saddened by Kaguya-hime's apparent departure, decided to destroy the Elixir by volcano fire. He had no desire to live forever without Kaguya-hime. Taking wind of the plan, Fujiwara no Mokou decides to take her vengeance by stealing the Elixir instead.* Mokou stole the medicine before it was disposed and managed to imbibe it before disappearing from the pages of human history.
*She wanted to kill Kaguya, but realized that she was too late because she already left for the moon. (as stated by the letter and the letter-bearer)

16) Kaguya and Eirin Yagakoro travels and accidentally blunders into Eientei, a mansion of rabbits led by the Queen of Rabbits. Eirin and Kaguya poses as weary travelling commoners and imposes upon them for temporary shelter.

The Queen of Rabbits was a fickle queen, akin to how Kaguya was once like (and how she is like until now, although to a lesser degree). And so, in a passing gesture, Eirin and Kaguya angered the Queen of Rabbits by pointing out her childish gestures as unbefitting for her status. As a result, the Queen of Rabbits challenged the two in a game.

It was a series of different games of the Queen's designing, and if Eirin and Kaguya can win three games first, the Queen will step down from her throne and let the two rule Eientei.

17) The last game was a game of archery in which Eirin excels. Eirin and Kaguya wins the wager, and the Queen was forced to step down from her leadership in Eientei.

18) Hieda no Are compiles the Kojiki.

19) Around this time, there was another disturbance in Heaven. The members of the Third Faction (which was now a minority in Heaven) took wind of Tsukuyomi's Eternity plan and decided to take major action against the Lunar Society.

However, the plan was rejected by most of Heaven, as most of the gods had become accustomed to peace brought by Himiko. Only one of the major individuals of the Third Faction refused to accept Heaven's denial. It was Yakumo Yukari.

Disgusted by Heaven's neutral behavior, Yakumo decided to descend upon the Earth in order to spy upon the humans. During her stay there, Yakumo discovers the potency of the native youkai of the Earth. The youkai did not harbor any liking for the gods or humans, who often viewed them as mere cursed beings of the land. Yakumo started to became close to the youkai, even if she was a being from heaven.

The youkai, being opressed by the human shamans who exorcised them without any question, wanted a place of their own where they can live peacefully among themselves. Yakumo, sensing an opportunity, told them the story of the Lunarian Society on the moon. "If we could somehow drive the people of the moon away, we can live on the moon peacefully, away from the humans."

Most of the youkai agreed to the plan, however there was a great hurdle in the plan. With a great span of distance seperating the Earth and Moon, how would they reach the moon?

20) Using her powers to manipulate the Borders, Yakumo manipulated the Borders of Truth and Untruth, making a portal from the mirrored image of the moon on a lake. Using this portal, the youkai were able to appear on the surface of the moon and brought war upon the Lunarians. However, with the advanced technology of the Lunarians, the youkai were steadily pushed back.

21) With Yakumo's ability, Yakumo nullified the weapons of the Lunarians, making the battle tip to the side of the youkai. Distraught, the Lunarians sought Heaven for help, saying that "If the Heavens should help them, the Lunarians would be loyal to the gods for as long as they live."

22) The Heavens, hearing the prayer of the Lunarians, sent a powerful emissary to help them battle against Yakumo and the youkai. The emissary was a Qilin* who burned the youkai with powerful white flames when she swings her left hand.** Multitudes of youkai were exorcised almost immediately by her first few attacks, and the remaining youkai were afraid to approach her. They were powerless against the purifying power of the Qilin who did not pursue the retreating youkai, but retaliated with brutal force on those who attacked.
*Kirin
**She is left handed, a symbol of wisdom

23) Seeing that the battle must end now, or the youkai will lose, Yakumo challenged the Qilin to a single combat that will determine the outcome of the war. The Qilin agreed, and they dueled in earnest. Their combat rocked the very foundations of the moon, creating huge holes on the surface of the moon.* The battle lasted for many days, and on it's last day, the moon was said to turn red with the fury of the two deities.**
*Moon Craters
**Lunar Eclipse

24) Taking advantage of the distraction caused by the deities' fight, the invading youkai made an attempt to sabotage the Lunar defenses. However, the Qilin saw through their plan and called the Wind of Heaven*. Using the Wind of Heaven, she called forth purging flames that exterminated many of the attacking youkai. The purging flames crossed the black skies of the Moon, seeking out the youkai and piercing them with its white flame. Because of this exhibition of power, the Qilin was called 冴月 麟 (Satsuki Rin)** by the Lunarians.
*Wind of Heaven...er, Kamikaze. Not the soldiers.
**Translation Notes. Researched by me, prone to inaccuracies in my part. *sigh*
冴(さえ) (sae) = skilled/precise
月(つき) (tsuki) = Moon, as if you did not know that already...
麟(リン) (rin) = legendary being, but this could also be used in the same context as 冴.

This is cool.  Reminds me of Ancient Gensokyo on THP.

Also red is a bad color I think. Maybe Pink?

Red for text reminds me of Umineko. I actually thought this was that kind of storytelling at first. :<
