"SSG" in the Anex86 Config Menu and MS Music Room
« on: June 28, 2017, 08:23:28 PM »
Hello, fellow Touhou peoples.

Let me make this as concise as I can make it. Although I am aware of the FM synthesis that ZUN used in his early games, but I'd like to know what the "SSG" in the Anex86 Config Menu and MS Music Room is.

Thank you very much,

The SSG is part of the YM2608 and YM2203 FM synthesis chips. It's used to generate simple square waves and noise. Square wave generators like this are normally called PSGs.

Music from MSX and Atari ST games should give you an idea of what the SSG sounds like without the FM part of the chip.
