Lucina is in no way comparable to Takumi.

Anyone with a competent ranged attacker will drop her like nothing, and even with Distant Counter, a lot of blue cards just came out that use magic, so they don't even care.

Takumi is automatic fuck you right out of the box to most units, and needs a 4* sacrifice to get silly instead of a 5*. Not even a close comparison.

I'm sort of running lowballer BST tactics so I don't run into people with full power teams, which probably explains why. My team isn't full Lv40, so I just run into wierd stuff, and takumi usually only every other fight nowadays, but it seems today he didn't want to come out and play as much.

Lucina would have to be broken to need a nerf, but instead she's squishy and vulnerable to ranged. Meanwhile Takumi has no worries about the weapon triangle, can counter at ranged and point blank, almost always attacks twice on top of being massively strong and fairly resilient for a ranged fighter. Add the inheritable skills now and he is bar none absolutely in need of being nerfed when he was already by far unforgivably broken from the start.

I'm not disagreeing with you at all, but I think I'm gonna track what I see in the arena for a while just out of curiosity. I always use a farmable featured unit because I have 2/10 luck and NEVER pull featured REM characters so my BST tends to be ass, but I'm going to keep track just for academic reasons. Really curious what the top ~5 most common are (we pretty much know one and two are Takumi and Lucina, no idea beyond that).

Between these red swordsmen, which should I 5* and use on my team (I sadly do not have any of the typical ones):

Alfonse
Selena
Eliwood
Palla

I'm thinking Selena because of Triangle Adept and Armorslayer, but Alfonse looks pretty decent, too.

Selena only seems super relevant if you're having a lot of trouble with Hector, since her Armorslayer is extra weak to the most commonly used knight (Effie).

Similarly Eliwood's Axebreaker only really seems relevant if you're finding yourself struggling with axes a lot. Or if you have a bunch of calvary units I guess.

I don't really remember what Palla does, but I know I inherited her to death so she must have some kind of good skill. Doesn't she also have the extremely dubious Ruby Sword?

Alfonse seems neat. Depends a little on how his stats shake put, but you definitely get style points with him. I'd say strongly consider him especially if you don't already have a Spur Attack user.

Eh... 20k feathers is a lot to spend.  If I had to pick one it'd be Eliwood (as he's amazing on cavalry teams), but I think you might be better off saving your feathers for a better red unit.

What are your other main units at the moment?  Also, of the guys you listed, do any have particularly good boons?

it makes me happy that Subaki is so good at tanking Lucina with Quick Riposte and that Sapphire Lance. Meanwhile, Julia (with Lancebreaker stolen from Arthur, thank you) destroys any of the lance users that threaten Lyn, and Lyn can mop up just about anything. Maybe.

Yeah, it's losing to them a lot that potentially makes them overpowered, and even then if your team isn't well-balanced that's not really valid. The fact that Takumi pretty much necessitates you run a counter to him does kind of indicate that he's exceptionally good.

Speaking of which, MRobin with Quick Riposte absolutely ruins all Takumis, as expected. Takumi is now off of my team, and the new team is Camilla/Lyn/FCorrin/MRobin.

I am running a very ill-advised team that basically just lets me have fun killing shit with Felicia, but has about 3 ways to kill taco meat. Only recommended if you're me.

Was waiting in line for food today and noticed my sister's friends were playing FEH and they hadn't gotten Felicia yet from the special map. I very conveniently ran into another vantage meat and oneshot him with her, causing them to get her immediately. This is probably my only motivation to keep playing, that and they might release Flora at some point so I can roll for her.

Nowi
Cecilia (Who will be scrapped once I level Lucius)
and Hawkeye.
I already have Eliwood on my team, but he's noticeably bad, so i want to replace him.
I almost have Felicia and Ana ready, but not quite.

As for boons, I can't say a whole lot...
Selena: Level 1 right now...

I can see how -ATK Eliwood without the use of Durandal would put you off using him.

I think going with Selena or Palla for now to tide you over is your best bet, but don't bring them to 5* just yet.  You can try your luck with orbs to pull a better red hero, or you can wait for one of the upcoming Grand Hero Battles - three of them are swordsmen.  (The upcoming one is Michalis who is green).

Lyn with Ardent Sacrifice and Escape Route is really fun to play. I can use her like a crappy mini-healer to keep my bulkier units sustained and then she can jump in to wreck someone out of nowhere. The minor downside is that she spends less time in combat, which makes charging Gale Force even harder, but this is definitely more reliable.

Is the game only displaying them if your team is good enough to hit some threshold, or only matching people against teams with inherits if they're good, or most people just not using them?
