PPIRC domain registration expired
« on: November 08, 2016, 05:16:49 PM »
Thought that someone here should be made aware of this as well.  I alerted TSO through Facebook, but I don't know if she's the responsible party anymore.
"But if I don't do this, then all that's left is to stand around and do nothing, and I've discovered I can't do that. That's the problem with the freedom of choice he was talking about: once you've got it, you can't live with yourself very comfortably if you choose not to exercise it." - Commander Warner Caslet.

Must be due to elections. (joke)

It is indeed that IRC is down due to the same reason.

I'm still connected, let's just hope the internet connection doesn't go out. For those of you using a client the IP address and port for the IRC server is 69.56.173.20:6601 if you want to connect directly.

I had troubles with that, but got in with port 6667. Might want to try that?

Whoops... 6601 is the SSL IRC port. 6667 is the standard IRC port.

(if your nick is registered you should probably be using 6601 so your password doesn't get sniffed)

It seems that I can connect again through the name: rc.ppirc.net. Could anybody confirm this for me?

It worked fine for me during the time it was apparently down yesterday-- I loaded IRC at 17:20 Pacific (UTC-8) without any problems. Unless it was already fixed by then.

irc.ppirc.net isn't working but cirno.lunar-tokyo.net (the server irc.ppirc.net redirects to) works.

Hmmmm,

I am suspecting DNS is the issue here. People's ISP, local router or PC might be out of sync. It takes up to 24h for DNS servers to sync in some cases. (Especially across the globe). Yesterday and this morning I couldn't connect through the dns ppirc and now I can. Also people mentioned they never left IRC and was working fine. So this is definitely a case of DNS. You can try to reboot your router/modem or just have patience.

Or in normal human language:  Your internet provider might take up to 24h to correctly connect again to IRC. People can restart their modem/routers at home.

I'll keep the news threads open until tomorrow.

Edit
Resolved for now as nobody seems to report issues.
