Car Boys: Who Knew The Show Of The Year Would Be This?
« on: September 14, 2016, 08:39:01 PM »
I don't actually expect anyone to care about this, but if I can improve just one person's life by introducing them to this magical series it'll be worth making a thread. I've been trying to shove this show down the throat of everyone I know for like a month and most people just ignore me, but I have utterly corrupted one guy and now we just giddily text each other about stuff that happened on Car Boys all day.

Car Boys is a Youtube series hosted by Polygon and featuring Griffin McElroy (of My Brother My Brother And Me, The Adventure Zone, Monster Factory, Griffin's Amiibo Corner, etc. fame) and Nick Robinson playing the soft-body vehicle simulator BeamNG.drive, which is a "game" where you ruin cars and the universe. Described by the hosts as "vehicular guro", it starts as a gauntlet of cars having reprehensible things done to them by cannons, grinders, and dimensional tesseracts, but it gets crazier and crazier every episode as mods are introduced and the laws of reality start to break down.

Over time it turns from a show about demolishing sportscars to, well, this:

Not for laymembers IIRC.

This sounds interesting from the writeup you gave so I might look into it though.

Bump: I watched all 10 episodes that are out. It's fun when something starts fucking up, and you know something is gonna happen, but you don't know how it's gonna turn out until it does.

They also overused Claire de Lune all the way to meme territory.

Glad to hear you liked it.

I mean, after a while you pretty much know what's coming.
Spoiler:
Dark Busto is going to utterly warp the fabric of space and create some kind of hellish Bustoverse. But I guess he never makes the same hellish Bustoverse twice, so it still keeps you guessing. And he's not in EVERY episode.

They also overused Claire de Lune all the way to meme territory.

This is one of those "I will never think of that song the same way again" things. :D

I... I should make that the wallpaper on my phone, shouldn't I? Might be too scary though, to open my phone and see that grim visage leering at me.

Ha ha ha my roommate started watching earlier apparently. Said he had to take a break after five episodes because it was "making his brain go numb".

My disappointment that Mr. red mechanical surprise wasn't implemented in the game yet was beyond words.

I'm envisioning it now: the last episode is Dark Busto and Light Busto in functional Iron Man suits fighting it out with the newly implemented AI. Maybe each one has one of those big spiked flails in hand. It won't be intended to be the last episode per se, but since Nick and Griffin will inevitably be destroyed by the resulting battle there will be no other choice.

Unless...

Griffin is part of an "eternal podcast" called Till Death Do Us Blart where all of the involved parties have to watch Pual Blart: Mall Cop 2 every Thanksgiving forever. It's an eternal podcast because nothing can stop it, even the deaths of the hosts. They have to name successors who will replace them in the yearly recording when they die. Maybe it would be prudent for them to name Car Boys successors too? You know, just in case shit really goes down...

I want that so bad.

It's too bad Nick doesn't always carry that flail with him anymore. That was fun. :D

From the people who brought you Car Boys comes a new show:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Onzu_r-O7YA

Touch The Skyrim is a show where Nick and Griffin add a ton of new mods to Skyrim every episode until the game either breaks in half of becomes a fun video game. The results are... Yes.

This was recommended for me by Youtube for some odd reason.

I clicked on it and decided to give it a try.

I marathoned the entire thing and eagerly await the next episode, it's wonderful. (also I've been trying to get my friends to watch it, but without success so far)

and i can never take clair de lune seriously ever again

I wish I knew a Nick person that I could send this to with love and affection, though.

The Hatsune Miku bit at the end of this week's ep was absolutely golden. Every part of the delivery just worked together to create a stunning masterpiece.

This week's episode was my favorite one in a long, long time. The cow sounds, the new powers, the ending... It was a jumbo-sized episode with jumbo-sized content!

See you space cowboy.

Can I get this series on Blu Ray? Like, no shit, I would pay A LOT of money for a fancy Car Boys box set.

That ending was beautiful. There's no other word for it.

I wasn't ready for my soft boys to leave me, but they couldn't have done it any better way.

"It's unfortunate, like, I didn't wanna be, like, a beam. I didn't wanna be a BeamNG. Is that what BeamNG stands for, Beam, Nick, Griffin, and we're two beams forever?"
