Maribel Hearn Quest - ACT I: Part 2
« on: April 19, 2016, 03:18:26 AM »
//Note: Believe it or not, this quest is always open, so new players are welcome at any time, if they don't mind reading...

>You are Maribel Hearn.

>You are a 19 years old university student majoring in psychology living in Kyoto, Japan. For a significant portion of your life you've caught glimpses of a land called Gensokyo in your dreams. Additionally, you were born with an ability to see boundaries, something that isn't normal for humans. You've kept these aspects about you secret for many years.

>And then you met Renko Usami.

>You and Renko share several common interests, including a love for the supernatural. She is currently your best and only friend, and you've been friends since high-school. Together, the two of you form the Secret Sealing Club, which investigates supernatural activities. Renko, like you, also has an unnatural ability. If she has a clear line of sight with the night sky, she can pinpoint her exact location, as well as the time. It's prevented both of you from getting lost during investigations on several occasions.

>In recent years, your powers seem to be intensifying. As they developed, you gained the ability to dream about Gensokyo while still awake, as well the ability to take Renko into your dreams with you. For a while this made it difficult to tell apart dream from reality. Fortunately, this feeling faded over time. These powers recently evolved again, and you now find yourself able to open and close tears in boundaries.

>Today, you and Renko finally entered Gensokyo, the land of your dreams, and met Reimu Hakurei, who soon became your escort.

>The three of you went to the human village, where you met Koishi Komeiji during a performance. The two of you became friends quickly.

>Later on, you met Kosuzu in the bookstore she works at. As well as a woman you would later learn was named Mamizou, who took Renko outside to discuss something. It was then that things began to go south, as several loud bangs soon came from outside. Rushing out, you discover that Mamizou had been injured by what was presumably a gun, prompting Reimu to leave the two of you and start investigating.

>With the help of a pair of rabbits named Reisen and Tewi, you managed to stabilize Mamizou long enough for them to rush her off for medical treatment. You, Renko, and Kosuzu then departed for Eientei, with a curious Koishi joining partway through, it was here you began to notice Renko acting strange, which she told you not to worry about every time you brought it up.

>At Eientei, you found that Mamizou was unconscious, but should make a full recovery. Here, Reimu met up with you and Renko again, and after a private conversation between Reimu and Eirin Yagokoro, who seemed to be suspicious of Renko at the time, the three of you went back to the Hakurei Shrine for lunch.

>At the Hakurei Shrine, Reimu was attacked by the same weapon that shot Mamizou, mortally wounding her. It was at that moment you discovered that Renko, of all people, was the assailant. She ran away as soon as you discovered her deed. Words could not describe your disbelief.

>Shortly after, Gensokyo's Barrier began to weaken, and you met Yukari Yakumo, a youkai with a strikingly similar ability to your own. She quickly transported you and Reimu to Eientei, where Reimu managed to get the urgent medical attention she needed. Yukari then took you to her home, where she helped you learn to shoot basic danmaku. You also met her shikigami, Ran, whom she assigned to cover the Hakurei Shrine until Reimu had recovered, and her shikigami's shikigami, Chen, whom she assigned to be your new escort. She then took the two of you back to Eientei.

>You and Chen then enlisted the help of Tewi to find a wolf youkai that might be able to track down Renko. You eventually found said Youkai, whose name was Kagerou Imaizumi. She agreed to help you, but you currently owe her repayment.

>You, Chen, and Kagerou went to the Hakurei Shrine to find something that might have Renko's scent on it, where you briefly met Marisa and Alice, two of Reimu's friends, as they were leaving. You quickly obtained Renko's lunch bag, which Kagerou used to track her. You also began learning to fly here.

>Partway into the hunt, you ran into Koishi once again, this time, you attempted to tear a hole into her subconscious barrier, accidentally unsealing her third eye in the process. This caused a complete personality change in her, as well as a brief episode, but you managed to talk some sense into her, and remained her friend. She then joined in on the hunt for Renko.

>You eventually found Renko, but after some unfortunate events she was knocked out cold. You brought her to Eientei, where Kagerou left your party. After a while, Renko came to, and you learned that she was attempting to save a relative who had disappeared years ago, and protect you from the same fate. You also learned what she calls an "angel" seems to also be partially behind Renko's actions. You then left the room.

>You are currently in Eientei, outside Renko's room, talking to Chen and Koishi.

>INVENTORY:
 >Clothes (equipped)
 >>Your signature outfit, a purple and white dress with a black belt. Slightly torn from when you made a makeshift bandage for Renko.

 >Hat (equipped)
 >>A white cap that you wear almost all the time.

 >Satchel (equipped) (capacity: 3/20 units)
 >>A bag for carrying items. Has a limited carrying capacity.

  >Video Camera (2 units)
  >>A device used to record videos. Of course, your phone can do this too...

  >Cellphone (1 unit)
   >>A communication device used to call other people. You doubt this would be of much use in Gensokyo...

  >Renko's Lunch Bag (0 Units)
  >>A piece of trash with Renko's scent on it.

>"It's something between the two of us. I've gotta resolve it."
>"She told me the truth i needed to know, but there were some things she still couldn`t clear up, because she didn`t know that part."
>"Oh, okay then..." Chen replies.

>"Are you feeling alright?" asks Koishi.
>_

//Also, FINALLY, we've cleared one thread... It's still lagging way behind Daiyousei quest, which is kinda sad because this quest is older than that one....

>Listen in on the voices.
>You put your ear to the door and listen.

>"Where were you all this time?" You hear Renko's voice say.
>"Fufufufufufu...." An unknown, eerily calm, woman's voice replies, "Does that really matter, my child...? Anyway, you've taken care of the shrine maiden, yes?"
>"I did... Now where is she being kept? Shooting Reimu got rid of the seal, right?"
>"Well... I sort of stretched the truth on that one..."
>"What!?!"
>"You see, the real reason I had you shoot that troublesome shrine maiden is so she wouldn't interfere later on... And now that she's out of the way, we can move on to phase two... Fufufufu~!"
>"P-Phase two...!?!"
>"Why yes, my child, you see... I wasn't lying about Sumireko being held prisoner... However, in order to draw her captor out into the open, I need to cause a localized storm of pure chaos. And this realm just so happens to be the perfect spot... Unfortunately, I couldn't do so with that shrine maiden around, I can't risk allowing her to weaken me once again, especially when time is of the essence... Anyway, moving on, let us leave this dull place, shall we?"
>"No..."
>"No?"
>"I just... need more answers, and I'm not going anywhere! Not without Merry..."
>"Oh yes, Maribel... I'm still wondering why you haven't severed your ties with her yet... She has most certainly outlived her usefulness to you..."
>"Don't talk about my friend that way!"
>"And would she have ever been your friend if I hadn't contacted you all those years ago and steered you in the right direction!?! Was it not I who told you get close to her? Was I not the one who urged you to found your relationship on a lie...?" The voice suddenly drops its eerily calm demeanor, "You would have never met that expendable nobody if it wasn't for me, so I do believe I have the right to say whatever I want about her! *ahem* Now, my child, you still wish to be reunited with Sumireko again, correct?"
>"I-I..." Renko stammers,
>"Go on..."
>"I.... Yes...."
>"Ah, excellent. I knew you'd make the right choice, my child... I don't even need the silly prophecy to tell me that..."

>Expendable? Were you supposed to be just a tool? What did she mean when she said "founded your relationship on a lie." If it wasn't for Renko standing up for you, you probably would start crying.

>Don't say anything. Just not worth it. Keep listening, though, certainly.
>You decide that reacting to these harsh words will get you nowhere, and decide that it would be better to keep listening.

>"And... If you don't mind me asking, exactly what is this prophecy I'm supposedly a part of..." Renko continues.
>"Oh, It's just a single, boring sentence..." says the calm voice, "Besides, if I told you, you might get distracted... But worry not, my child, I will tell you everything once all the tasks at hand have been completed... Speaking of which, we should probably get going..."
>"But what about Merry? I mean, couldn't she help?"
>"I have said it before, she is nothing more than a tool to get you to this place. She has no more use to us... I still implore you to get rid of her as soon as you are able. You still have that present I gave you this morning, do you not?"
>"I... sorta lost it... A-And I'm not going to shoot Merry! ...I would never..."
>"Fufufufu~ Don't tell me you've actually developed feelings for the girl! Trust me, my child, she will just get in your way, in our way..."
>"But this morning... You said that she would also fall to the same fate as Sumireko if I didn't shoot Reimu... Why has your opinion of her changed...?"
>"I only said that as motivation, nothing more. Just in case the prospect of finding your relative has lost its potency over the years..."
>"Motivation? You didn't think I was motivated enough! Just..." she sighs "Can we have Merry help... Please?"
>"Fufufufu~ Alright, very well... I'll humor you. Just keep in mind that if she gets in the way of your goals... You know what must be done..."
>"So... When's are next move..."
>"Well, right now, of course, unless you have any problems with that..."
>"I think if I just suddenly disappeared, people will get suspicious..."
>"Hmm... Very well..." the voice pauses, "There is a cave in the mountains behind the Hakurei Shrine, meet me there in one hour's time... Don't be late..."
>"I won't.... Now, you should probably leave.... I don't know when Merry's coming back..."
>"Of course... However, it's not like I care if she catches a glimpse of me or hears any part of our conversation. Things have already been set in motion..."

>You hear some kind of sound on the other side of the door.

This is a important point, so i'll need your opinions on this, what to do now ? Do we tell her that we heard everything or not ? Should we first find someone who knows of said angel to help us ? There are many choices to take here.

I think we should level with her; we heard what the angel said.

We DO want to help free Sumireko, but we also don't entirely want the angel to have it's way... she's outright admitted multiple cases of lying to Renko, and that she wants to create a lot of chaos. It's obvious she's using her, and she's being cruel and nearly threatening to Renko so even she should realize things aren't so hunky-dory with her.

So we'll probably need to talk it out and see someone else within that next hour, but we may still end up going to meet her.
