Sakuya Quest - A Z-Machine Adventure
« on: April 07, 2016, 04:46:05 PM »

>You are Sakuya Izayoi, Gensokyo?s finest maid and young retiree! You are a devoted servant to House Scarlet, leading a small army of faeries in keeping the place properly clean, functional, and fed. You like to think you?ve done a fine job with this task and it has earned you a reputation as a flawless maid; something you?re quite proud of. You?ve come to view the entire household as your own family (at least, most of it), and it pleases you to take care of them. You are careful, however, not to dote on them or let your professional demeanor slip. Remilia does this enough already.
>In particular, you spend a lot of time with various faeries, and you?ve come to care for and understand them more than likely any other person in Gensokyo. You?ve learned well how to coordinate the normally chaotic little things, how to teach them simple things and make it stick, and how to keep them on a task without wandering off. While you have to be stern with them, you do your best to keep them happy, to rotate them so that no one gets overworked, and so on. While most people see them as petty annoyances, you?ve come to understand that most of them are little sweethearts, just they tend not to mesh well with others.
>In your younger days, you used to assist in dealing with various incidents, but after some person thoughts in the wake of meeting with the Yama, you decided to leave that sort of thing to shrine maidens and focus more on your household. However, you did recently take a brief return to the trade when an amanojaku messing around with things that she shouldn?t have managed to animate your favorite set of knives, requiring steps to be taken if only to preserve the honor of House Scarlet.
>That aside, you are content to live a peaceful life. Well, as peaceful as things can be in a mansion full of youkai. It is mid-morning, and you have just finished cleaning up after breakfast (or dinner for the Mistress and Young Mistress), a fairly sizable affair considering that it involves feeding seventy-three faeries along with the other residents. While the image people have of you is someone who is always busy, in truth you have a large enough workforce that you are able to set aside a fair amount of time for yourself every day in the mornings. It?s when Mistress wakes up that you are particularly on call. But that will be a problem for this evening. Right now, you are in the easy time of day, you?ve set the maids toward cleaning a few guest rooms on the upper floors that require it, and will need to oversee lunch in about an hour and a half?s time. But until then, you have time to yourself.

>Examine chest.
>Check and Analyze inventory.
>Recall Relationships with our"family".

>Your chest is is proper size today. It is an unfortunate side effect of your abilities; when you bend time, sometimes it will bend you back, pushing you away from your chronological age in one direction or the other. It's led to some unpleasant rumors. Thankfully, as you've gotten older, this has happened less noticeably for the most part.
>Your Inventory contains
>Maid Headband:
>A statement of your career, pleasantly frilly.
>Uniform
>It reveals a daring amount of leg, but sometimes one must be daring.
>Silver Knife x20
>Kept in your skirt pockets, and a few hidden in comfortable spots in and under your clothing. These are the basis of your danmaku. When adventuring, you tend to keep quite a few more.
>Pocketwatch
>A focus of your time manipulation. You treasure it greatly, though you don't need it anymore.
>40☼
>This is 40☼
>Remilia is a royal figure in your life, but rather than distant and aloof, she cares for your deeply. You owe your life and happiness to her.
>Flandre, on the other hand, is something like a niece that you often have to corral. She isn't a bad child, usually, but she can get carried away.  it vaguely annoys you that she seems to gravitate toward Patchouli.
>Meiling is complicated. You aren't sure where you stand with her these days...
>Patchouli somewhat gets on your nerves. In older days, the two of you despised each other. Frankly, she was nothing more than a freeloader who made your life difficult with her little projects and awful attitude. Her familiar hardly made things better. However, the two of you came to the roots of your disagreement, and things have gotten better. You still don't like her much, but you don't loathe her or privately wish Remilia would throw her out anymore.
>Koakuma is a little creep, but she can be amusing sometimes when she calms herself. If nothing else, you do enjoy that she gives Patchouli a well-deserved hard time.
>Amaya is the newest individual member of Scarlet Devil Mansion, having joined after the incident with Bhava-Agra falling from the sky a couple years ago. She is a celestial, and chose to remain behind when the others left. You...aren't sure why. She tells you that she finds value in her work here, and you suppose that's good enough? She works as a maid, and frankly flawless. You can trust her to do just about anything without supervision, and she has greatly lessened your workload. She seems to have little talent with faeries, though, which you are quietly thankful for. Otherwise you might feel inadequate. She is very reserved and serene, seldom even speaking unless she feels the need to. You don't really understand her, but you suppose you at least trust her enough to think well of her.

>Meiling is...complicated. You're supposed to be seeing each other (in secret, of course. Remilia would never tolerate her staff fraternizing), but you aren't so sure anymore. It's been months since the two of you have had any real time together, and you aren't certain that bothers her. You aren't certain if it bothers you; though you're reasonably sure it does. Have you drifted apart? Did you ever really drift together?
>The imperial name, as you think of it, is still used in ceremonial occasions, particularly on the anniversary of that incident, but you suspect it has been completely forgotten by anyone outside the mansion. And technically by a majority inside the mansion, if you count the faeries.
>Reimu is Reimu. Hardnosed and uncompromising in the defense of Gensokyo, generally can't be bothered otherwise. She's seen a lot, and it's definitely hardened her. But for someone who complains about youkai, she sure seems to have a lot of them as friends. Then again, you can hardly judge, given your own situation.
>Marisa is a pain in the butt, but it's a good kind of pain. She causes trouble here often enough, and her thieving habit can be a pain. But she's toned that down, and she's quite pleasant when she isn't in a rambunctious mood. Still, it's generally a good idea to stay out of her way when she's fired up. Also you cannot deny she has lovely abs.
>Youmu had better stay far away from you or yours if she knows what's good for her. You do not forget, and you are not inclined to forgive.
>Reisen is a pleasant enough person, you think. Perhaps she is a bit spacey sometimes, but that's fine too. You don't see her very often, as she tends to stay around Eientei, save for when she goes to deliver medicine to the village. Sometimes you have pleasant chats with her. You wish her well.
>Sanae amuses you more than anything. You've not had many opportunities to meet her, having little business around the upper reaches of Youkai Mountain, but she seems to be a good kid. She definitely gets carried away sometimes, and it tends to be hilarious when she and Reimu get into spats. It's a shame she doesn't drink, you imagine she'd be a hilarious drunk.

>How do our time powers work?

>Essentially, you focus, and they happen. In the old days, you needed your pocketwatch to help you with it, but you've learned to do so on your own these days. Essentially, time listens to you, for lack of a better term. You can step outside of it for a duration, or you can let it pass you by in an eyeblink. You can focus it on objects and cause them to age more quickly; which you tend to do for wines reasonably often. You only have so much capacity for it before you need to rest. There are other things you can do, but you've been hesitant to explore the limits of your abilities, lest you do something you can't take back. You have, on one occasion, managed to speed up the passage of time for everyone to help save Remilia by bringing sunset more quickly. That particular trick knocked you out for awhile, and you awoke several years younger than when you started, which was very disturbing, to say the least.

History of China. :P
>What do we usually enjoy in our free time?

>Too large to handle.
>You enjoy curling up with a good book; the library is a major perk of working here. When you have more time to yourself, you love to fish. Simply put, it's an excuse to laze around and do exactly nothing in the peace and quite while enjoying the outdoors. Not to mention it can take care of dinner for the residents on a good deal. Other times, you like to go visit the human village, or snoop around Kourindou. Rinnosuke, in particular, was a nice source of gossip about the old days, before the incident.

> Presumably Meiling is on duty right now, yes? What might she enjoy us bringing to her?

>She is on duty right now.  She enjoys just about anything you have to bring.

> How much does Meiling enjoy food?

>That woman love to eat.

> Opinion of Toyosatomimi no Miko.
> Have we met the mermaid in the lake?

>You really don't like Renko for her whole invasion antics, but she has been contrite enough that you're willing to forgive her. Otherwise, you don't particularly have a strong opinion. She definitely has the potential to rival your own talents with faeriekind, though she doesn't seem to have what it takes to lead them in the long run as you do. Perhaps she can be trained.
>Maribel worries you, sometimes. Her border nature lets her very lightly touch upon time as you do, and that concerns you. Before that, you believed your power to be unique, Patchouli's blathering about chronoturges or whatever aside. The idea that someone less disciplined than you can do such is not comforting.
>Miko strikes you as a decent enough person. She seems to affect humility a little too strongly, and it makes you wonder if she's hiding something. But you've dealt with worse people.
>You know of her, but never really met her. You tend to do your fishing further away from the mansion.

>Amaya is green-haired and very slender. Her clothing of choice right not is a somewhat less daring version of your own uniform, accessorized with the floating raiment that celestial wear.
>You don't really have a fighting style, as such, so much as you just try to stab people who are being troublesome. This is has served you well thus far. You do know some basic karate forms thanks to Meiling, through.
>You were once another person. She is dead now. She has been mourned and honored, and you do not think about her anymore. At least when Rinnosuke shuts his yap.
>Do you even need to ask.
>You do not work out much, but you duties keep your busy and fit, as does a reasonably measured diet. You are not very buff.
>You are not certain how Remilia's more vaulted abilities work. You are not sure that she knows.
>Ran means trouble. She is a lovely kitsune and all, but if Ran is involved, Yukari is not far behind.
>Alice is in the same realm as Youmu. You're still upset at Patchouli for forgiving Alice so easily.
>There are too many matriarches and not enough space.
>The opinions on your faeries have been covered in the intro. Wild faeries, for lack of a better term, are also nice. If more prone to be annoying. Frankly, you could write a book on this topic.

>More realistically, you have an hour and a half before you need to start working on today's lunch. You can stretch this out to two hours if you keep lunch simple, and you might be able to squeeze out a few extra minutes with judicious use of time manipulation. This gives you time to do just about anything around the manor. You could pop out for a quick visit elsewhere, as long as you don't wander off any further than human town.

>That's not as easy of a question to answer as it should be. You think she honestly enjoys watching the gates, as boring as it seems. Perhaps it's just a youkai thing? She certainly enjoys refining her martial arts, and putting them to use in friendly scenarios. Gardening is a passion of hers, and one of her other jobs around the mansion. She definitely likes to eat, though she has barely any talent for cooking, herself. You'er not sure if she enjoys meditation, but she definitely practices it. She seems to enjoy calligraphy, but seldom seems to find the time for it.
