Evanescent Existence

Earthen Miraculous Sword

Brilliant Pagoda or Haze Castle

This week we have Evanescent Existence, and this means Yabusame vs. Tsubakura.

For me at least:

Yabusame: 8/10. Lacks a bit of power, but has four bombs per life and lots of range, and you can also shotgun with her shots.
Tsubakura: 5/10. In exchange for a more powerful shot, Tsubakura has little range, making bosses such as Aoji, as well as stages in general, more difficult, as well as having only two bombs per life.

Sorry, Tsuba fans, but I find Yabusame much more useful.

Yabusame 8/10
Yabu's basically a tank. In a human body.
Ze moves very slow, but hir spread out shot basically hits every single target on-screen, and it's even shotgun-able. Good luck getting to the boss before it hits you with your slow speed though. A whopping 4 spells gives hir a huge advantage over Tsubakura's laughable 2.

Tsurubami Tsubakura 6.5/10
Not Tsuba's basically a glass cannon.
Ze is a complete opposite of Yabu, actually. Ze's a very fast character with a powerful, concentrated shot and a low bomb stock. Hir movement speed makes it hard to dodge bullets though, which makes hir useless in a game like EE, where it's less about movement and more about pure dodging and bombing through stuff. A shame, since I really like powerful glass cannons.
Ze's also my favorite Len'en character, so that's a bummer.

Personally, i'd recommend to not rate the BPoHC players until we have the complete game with the 12 (!) characters. But we have at least 3 games with 3 weeks to go, maybe Jynx will make some progress. Also, (later) i want to roast other fangames, like ido's series.
Spoiler:
Can't wait for MPP and then RSS right after that, i'm expecting a huge contrast.

But now back to business

Yabusame 8/10
Better for survival in general and i appear to get consistently better scores with xim. I argue that in a game with the mechanics of Len'en, the proficiency of a bomb is not only dependent on raw damage, but also, or even mainly, on the duration, as you can squeeze dense patterns for score and lives.

Tsubakura 7/10
Usable if you know how to proceed. The perforating laser is pretty good for multiple enemy formations where they move into groups, ones would block others outside of Yabusame's attacks, Tsubakura can wreck stages, preventing multiple enemies from even shooting. Problem is that to use the full potential, you need to memorize the stages (enemies mostly, not actual danmaku). Bomb is short, but high damage, can get out of pesky boss patters just in case a problem arises.

Hehe... I'm curious to see how many people actually participate in this one. I'd be interested in doing the ido (and friends) games too.

As for BPoHC, I'd say we divide it by week based on teams. Each team has 6 possible combinations (Yabu/Tsuba, Yabu/Shion, Tsuba/Yabu, Tsuba/Shion, Shion/Yabu, Shion/Tsuba) plus you have to consider upgrades, which is already a lot without adding a 2nd/3rd/4th team.

Yabusame:8/10
The spread destroys stages and deals tons of shotgun damage. The homing is pretty useless but that's not a big deal because of the spread.
The stages in this game are almost 100% streaming, so the slow speed actually makes them better than Tsubakura at stages. The low speed is a bit noticeable on certain patterns like Aoti's 3rd non, and the lower power makes certain patterns drag.
This is also the bomb's weakest incarnation, which is both a boon and a blessing. It's really a pain when you want to bombskip certain patterns. But lives are based on score in this game, and those blue point items are nearly worthless- what really gets you score are the gray items you get for deleting bullets. So a long, weak bomb means you can get a ton of score from dense patterns like Aoli's 04/05 card, Tsubakura's 03/06 card, or Tsurubami's last non. Plus you get 4 bombs.
All around, this is obviously the better shot type. It's way better than Tsubakura in every category except damage. It's really not a great shot, though, it's just way better than Tsubakura.

Tsubakura:5/10
Piercing is pretty useless in this game. There are rows of enemies where it should be useful in stages 3 and 4, but since everything is either streaming or already really easy the piercing doesn't help much. The increased power does make most boss patterns end much more quickly (except Clause's 3rd non =_=) but it doesn't make up for the rest of the faults.
Usually I'm a fan of high speed high power shots, but the stages in this game are almost 100% streaming which makes the high speed a complete pain. PoCing is also highly discouraged in Len'en as a whole (did you know the blue items are worth the same amount whether you collect them manually or PoC them, and are worth the same amount regardless of how high you are on the screen when collecting them?). Because of that, Tsubakura's high speed has almost no value in this game.
The bomb is really powerful and instantly ends most patterns, but since it's short it means you can't bombspam for extends the way Yabusame does. Plus you only get 2, which is extremely limiting.
This is completely the inferior shot type. I only use this shot type for a challenge or if I want to fight Yabusame.

Yesss, finally a shottype thread I can respond to

Yabusame: 9/10
Yabu is awesome, and that is all there is to say on the matter. Her spread wrecks the stages (which aren't really that hard, anyway) and she can do very good shotgunning (and there's a lot of occasion to do that in EE). Her bomb is a Life farm. You just can't go wrong with her.

Tsubakura: 6/10
She's kinda meh to be honest. She is quick and powerful, but her shot has a narrow range and so does her bomb. You can't farm lives like you can with Yabu, since her bomb is like second long? She's still fun to play, but you generally have no reason to prefer her over Yabusame.

Because we need 4 of these threads.

Rules (thanks ZM for this copy/pasta and overall thread layout):
1. Shot types spanning from TLC to BoSM, FDF and other fangames will be rated per week.
2. Shot types must be rated on a scale of 1 to 10. Intervals of 5 are accepted, anything not by 5 will not be accepted (For example: Good: 5.50/10, Bad: 7.12/10). Once the week is over, all the votes will be tallied up and averaged for each shot.
3. Keep things civil, everyone. This is a thing that's meant to be fun, so let's keep it as such!
4. Make sure your reasoning for the ratings are serious. Each rating should have some detail along with them. I will not accept just number ratings.
5. You are eligible to quote others' ratings if you agree with them.
6. Be sure to not miss out on a shot. So please include MoF!MarisaB, for example.
(Exception: TLC Needles Reimu - if you english patch the game you need to mess about with the files a bit to access it, so I'll accept posts that leave out said shot-type.)
7. Feel free to suggest games to do next.

First up is The Last Comer!

The Last Comer's shot-type balance is very skewed by lunatic, which is the only difficulty I play of it. The differences in shot-types is much smaller on, say, normal, though definitely present.

Homing Reimu: 3/10
This shot is all around very bad. The damage is pathetically low, on the tier of PCB ReimuA, or even lower (though thankfully it has a better bomb), only The Last Comer has harder bosses (early game in particular) and much, much harder stages than PCB. The damage just isn't high enough for the stages. Stages 1, 2 and 3 in particular get much harder. Though any shot that isn't Sakuya feels that.
The bomb is decent, but that's no consolation. Still the worst bomb in the game.

Needles Reimu: 5.5/10
High focused damage. It also has slightly higher range than Marisa. Shot-wise, she's effectively equal to Marisa. The main difference between the two is the bombs.
The bomb covers the entire screen and does high damage, especially right in front of the boss. But it also lasts for about 1.5 - 2 seconds, which is not good in this game where long bombs can be used to gather grudge points.

Marisa: 5/10
Like Needles Reimu - high damage, low range.
Master Spark does high damage, and lasts a long time. But the bomb slows you down, which makes gathering grudge a pain - at least using Duplex Barrier you can gather some grudge afterwards during stages.

Sakuya: 9.5/10
Oh boy. The master of this game's system right here, folks. She does literally everything right in the context of this game.
A huge spread which does fairly high damage, which makes the stages so much easier is the biggest factor. And her focused damage is still on about the same level as Needles Reimu/Marisa, too!
Her bomb lasts a long time, does high damage and allows you to move around to get grudge items. This it great for stages and bosses alike and means you can stall a little using your bomb to get grudge items if necessary.
Moreover, Sakuya has a ridiculously strong unfocused shotgun on top of bosses. In a game where you get invincibility periods with a decent frequency, this is ridiculously powerful. Bombing or grudge + unfocused shotgun will kill pretty much every non survival/bomb immune spell in the game immediately.
An all around great shot-type.

The Last Comer will end 6th of April.

Throwing in suggestions for games:
