So, Screwattack finally acknolwedged the existence of Touhou.

All I can say, is that this is some good, ol' fashioned Touhou hijack, like the glory days.

Expecting to see the Touhou fanbase spike, as thousands of people ask "where is that character from?"

I already saw several "Who?"s in the comments just half an hour after the video came out so people who have no idea about thrm are certainly seeing it. Of course most of those who watch/read JoJo's are throwing a hissy fit in the comments.

Does anyone know if the version of Flowering Nights used at the end was made by them or taken from somewhere?

The fight was satisfying, the animation was good all around, that's a good job. Cheating the time limit was a fun touch.

Funny, since Touhou fans (and Sakuya fans in particular) are pretty much JoJo fans as well by default.

Nah, Screwattack had nothing to do with the outcome/scripting, that was all me.

They didn't even bother to mention where Sakuya came from despite mentioning Dio coming from Jojo D':

Let's hope the "no research" thing doesn't mean "everyone in Touhou is unbeatable, so they win by default!"

I know Touhou characters are powerful, but I don't like it when people see them as godly and unbeatable...

While not every Touhou character is Godly, Sakuya (along with Reimu and Marisa) is definitely one of the few characters to canonically be that powerful.

1. She nearly defeated the Youkai of Fate (Remilia), and becomes her servant.

2. Defeats the queen of the Netherworld (Yuyuko)

3. Almost beats the strongest Youkai in Gensokyo (Yukari)

4. Kills a bunch of Lunarian immortals

I'm not sure if PoFV and the fighting games are considered canon as a testament to Sakuya's strength, and I haven't played Touhou 14.

It's also worth noting that even in gameplay mechanics, Sakuya is part of the "God" tier. What Fox is to Super Smash Bros, Sakuya is to each and every Touhou fighting game, where she is consistently top tier.

Also Yuyuko is a stage 1 boss whenever she feels like it. Gameplay means nothing.

I'm flattered

I was hired by the owner of the show; Mali (As you see on the title screen right after Screwattack's) after being recommended by the rest of the crew for my past animations and was offered a chance to show what I was made of. It actually took a little bit of convincing since nobody in the OMM crew knew much about Touhou, in the end I was able to go with the match-up because I promised to make it look great.

Really, even I think I nerfed Dio quite a bit in this (You can only do so much in a minute, I even wanted to animate Sakuya decapitating him and having to fight his head)
One Minute Melee is really just an animator wanting to make something pretty, what skills/abilities/traits they decide to show/omit on the characters is entirely up to the animators themselves. (As opposed to Death Battle where Screwattack does all the scripting and the animators animate around that script.)

So in the end I had Sakuya win the fight because... I wanted her to :3

That said, I am amused that the voices from Koumajou no Densetsu were used for Sakuya. They have sense of maturity in them and Sakuya just sounds cool in that game in my opinion. Dragging of the time was clever as noted. I enjoyed the animation and brutal exchanges.

In all seriousness though, regardless of how accurate it may or may not be, that was really well made and very fun to watch. Also, wonderfully fast paced; I missed the part where he reattached the arm the first time, so I'll have to watch it at half speed later.

The animation is astonishingly good, hats off. The fight is very well made and choreographed overall.

Of course, as a Touhou fan I also enjoy the outcome, but seeing it end the other way wouldn't have particularly bothered me (unlike the masses of asspained JoJo fans in the Youtube comments...), because the fight is very well made either way, and moreover wasn't aiming at being a researched Death Battle; so I took it as just that, two cool timestoppers beating each other up.
Some might see it as an asspull (especially previously mentioned group of individuals) but I found the plot twist at the end of the fight very clever, and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Also, I must ask: is the "To be continued" simply a throwback at the JoJo franchise, or is it actually hinting at a later sequel (1MM or Death Battle)?

Ooooh never expected to see a Touhou anything from screw attack

Being a Touhou fan and familiar with the JJBA series, I am quite satisfied with this. It's in time like these that youtube might need a "flag as butthurt" button, but I ain't letting some random youtuber butthurt venting spoil my fun :3

I guess I didn't think about the confusion the whole "To be continued" thing would cause. I popped it in because it's just how the JJBA episodes usually ended, with the color-filtered freeze frame and everything ^^;

And we don't tend to use the same series twice in a row but... If Touhou comes back for a round 2 the one animating it will most likely be me again. (Though you never know, I ended up getting a few of the OMM guys into Touhou xD)

Don't worry. People always try to come up with something when they are in despair. I too thought it was typically how the Jojo episodes ended when I first saw it, including the SFX / style and such.

Well, yeah, twice in a row wouldn't be fair to the legions of characters from other series waiting for a shot. Still, good to know the chances are decent that we'll get another one.

I'll continue to hold out hope that a full Death Battle feature a Touhou character, though we might have to wait a long time. Death Battle shows no signs of slowing down, though.

Wonderful job on the animation btw, will definitely be one of my favorite fights to watch.
