Immortal Quest - "Death" is a Slap on the Wrist!
« on: January 09, 2015, 11:23:52 PM »
((Okay, so about the previous game I was running, Rika Quest, well. Academics sort of prevented me from responding to it for a while, and at this point, I don't really feel like continuing it. However, if anyone who was playing Rika Quest wants me to continue, I'll try to run that game in parallel with this one.

Anyways, without further ado:))

IMMORTAL QUEST

In the realm of Gensokyo lives two individuals that long ago gained immortality by ingesting the Hourai Elixir. Kaguya and Mokou, as they are known, have possessed a deep hatred for each other for over a millennium. It seems like almost every day they quarrel with each other in some way. Sometimes these skirmishes consist of only a short flurry of insults, at other times they will escalate to harsh battles that result in them inflicting mortal injuries to each other.

Recently, however, by the urging of Keine Kamishirasawa, a friend of Mokou, and Eirin Yagokoro, a medical genius and close friend of Kaguya, a truce has been formed between the two. It has now been three days since the truce. Now the question is: How long will it last?

>Please select a character:
  >Kaguya Houraisan
  >Fujiwara no Mokou

Well, since I don't think anybody else is going to vote, I guess Mokou it is.

>...

>You are Fujiwara no Mokou. A human born with pyrokinetic abilities.

>About 1300 years ago, (You don't remember the exact date.), you consumed the Hourai Elixir, a substance that granted you immortality. The time that has passed since then has consisted mostly of sporadic conflicts with your sworn enemy, and fellow immortal, Kaguya Houraisan, who humiliated your father by causing him to fail the five impossible requests required to take her hand in marriage. Many conflicts with your enemy have resulted in both of you inflicting what most people would consider lethal injuries on each other.

>Recently, at the urging of Keine Kamishirasawa, a school teacher in the Human Village and currently your only true friend, you reluctantly agreed to go into a truce with Kaguya. The two of you have not fought with each other since then.

>It is now the dawn of the fourth day of the truce. You have just awoken and are lying on your bed, lethargic with morning tiredness.

>Attempt to get up, look around, check drawers near bed

>You groggily force yourself out of bed and take a moment to look around the room.

>Your bedroom is just as you left it before you retired to bed. On the far wall is a small window adorned by ragged curtains, through which daylight is now gradually streaming into and illuminating the room, next to it is an old mirror and a small, equally archaic table. At the foot of the bed is the small, locked chest where you keep the majority of your money. Against the wall nearby are the drawers where you keep your belongings. Beyond that is the door, in the corner of the room.

>You drowsily walk over to the drawers and open them. In the top drawer are your spellcards, a small amount of cash you had on hand the previous day, and a hairbrush. The other drawer contains a spare outfit.

>You grab your spellcards from the drawer.

>Obtained:
  >SPELLCARDS:
   >[Immortal] "Fire Bird -Flying Phoenix-"
   >>Sends a storm of fire danmaku at the opponent.

   >[Forgiveness] "Honest Man's Death"
   >>Traps the opponent in a field of danmaku while you rain wide spread shots upon them.

   >[Everlasting] "Phoenix's Tail"
   >>Fires a chaotic burst of fire danmaku at the opponent.

   >[Hourai] "Fujiyama Volcano"
   >>Fires a small, directed shot that erupts into an explosion of fire danmaku.

   >"Imperishable Shooting"
   >>Your strongest spellcard. Fires rings of danmaku that warp into vaguely flower-shaped patterns, followed by a chaotic storm of shots. Using this card will leave you exhausted!

> Think about Kaguya
>Your mind begins to flood with thoughts of hate as you wonder about how your sworn enemy, Kaguya, is faring with this whole "truce" thing. You still detest that annoying lunarian with every fiber in your being.

>You're still a bit on the tired side, so you decide to have a bit of breakfast before you head out.

>You leave your bedroom and enter the main room of your house, in the center of the room is a low table, where you eat your meals. On the other side of the room is the pantry and a small kitchen. The door leading outside is located on the wall closest to you. On the wall opposite of the door is a window, which, like the one in your bedroom, is adorned with ragged curtains.

>You shuffle across the floor to the pantry in your half-awake daze to the pantry and look inside. There is a box of cereal, a bag of rice, and some dried meat.

> Try to recall how cereal found its way into Gensokyo.

>If you recall correctly, cereal was introduced to Gensokyo about a year ago. However, nobody remembers exactly who was responsible for the introduction. Many claim that Yukari, the youkai that monitors the Gensokyo's boundary had a hand in it. Others say that the Kourindou, a local shop that deals in outside world merchandise, was responsible. Still more believe that it was some form of elaborate collaboration between the Moriya Shrine and the Kappa of Youkai Mountain as a way to increase faith in the shrine. Honestly, it could have been a combination of all of these for all you know. It doesn't help that an issue of the Bunbunmaru newspaper published around the time offers no clarification whatsoever.

> Quick! Check under the table!

>You look underneath the table just in time to see a metal cylinder with a kitchen timer wired to it duct-taped to the bottom of the table.
>In a split second everything goes white and you feel intense pain throughout your body.

>You wake up on your back. Outside. The sun is a bit higher in the sky, meaning a couple of hours have gone by. Your entire body, especially the back of your head, feels sore as you sit up to look at your surroundings.
>You look behind you and see a rock with a large blood stain on its surface where your head was lying. If the blast didn't "kill" you, the impact of your head with the rock did.
>You turn around are now staring at your house, which now has a massive, gaping hole in the wall. The low table is completely obliterated, and in its place is a massive scorch mark. Fragments of wood and bamboo are are everywhere. The neighboring rooms appear to have been spared from the explosion.

If Hollywood action movies have taught me anything, it's that suspicious ticking sounds always mean an explosion follows...

> Grit teeth and mutter to self: "Don't blame me when I come for you... You're the one who started it..."

> Find a weapon. We need to get back at her.

>You begin angrily scanning the area for a suitable revenge weapon. There are plenty of bamboo and wood fragments around, which have fractured ends perfectly suited for impalement. There are also quite a few rocks scattered around, perfect for bashing her stupid lunarian face in. Of course, you always have your pyrokinesis. Nothing says revenge like roasting someone alive.

>Analyze incoming danmaku for: a) similarity to the patterns/spellcards Mokou've encountered before; b) density/power and probable opponents; c) ways to dodge it.
>You crane your head to get a better look at the approaching danmaku.
>The pattern is a random scatter shot consisting of spherical bullets of variable color. There are no accompanying patterns, meaning that this is likely a preliminary strike by whoever shot it. The spray heavily resembles that of the ones shot by Kaguya using her Jeweled Branch when she's not using it in a spell card. There are many large gaps in and around the pattern.

>Attempt to dodge.
>You swiftly leap to the side as the shower of danmaku comes crashing down. You avoided the hit without a scratch!
>"Don't dodge it! It will only prolong your death!" You hear a very familiar voice call out from somewhere above.
