Touhou Puppet Dance Performance (Touhoumon)
« on: December 23, 2014, 03:28:09 PM »
Touhoumon started out as a Pokemon ROM hack with like god damn 7 different versions of it or something along those lines...

Emerald/FireRed/Crystal were the few versions that had been used to replace Pokemon with Touhou Characters. It's been a long while since anything Touhoumon related popped up besides the teaser website and picture which I can no longer find, a few months ago. The last few releases if i remember correctly were Touhoumon Puppet Play Enhanced 1.8, which is a hack over FireRed.

Anyway, recently the completion and release of a new Touhoumon game is over the horizon...

Trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G45DEP4-1QI
Main Site: http://www.fo-lens.net/gn_enbu/

A few things have been changed since being a ROM Pokemon hack. It however is still played as one-
They have their own custom battle engine, which however, does not stray away that much from the original pokemon battles.
Graphics are staying true to their old originals, but with touchups to make the thing look spectacular. Sprites and Trainer battles are all following the Pokemon X/Y Style.
In the original Touhoumon hacks, most Girls could side evolve by means of an item, to transform into a form that focused more on a certain stat. ie ZYoumu/AYuugi/SYukari. In TPDP, it's the same thing but without use of an item; Girls can transform into different 'Styles' that are 'Attack', 'Defense', 'Speed', 'Assist', and their 'Normal' forms.
There still are the Typings and Resistances/Weaknesses, from what I can translate(?)

Something something I can't read japanese very well yet. Every Touhou from the first game on PC-98 to Double Dealing Character will be inside, even those from side stories such as Rinnosuke/Akyuu/Watatsuki Sisters.

Oh boy, I get to look forward to memorizing a new typing chart.

No but in actuality, I'm looking forward to this game, as I enjoyed the FireRed one immensely.

Or the unfinished Gensokyo Scenario. I was really bummed when I found that "The scenario stops here" message in the game.

I actually made a topic on this a while back with some info on story and a few other things. The game apparently is translated as Fantasy Puppet Dance Performance.

Edit: Also you can try the demo on the website too.

Oh my bad, I saw the trailer today but didn't even think about updating it. Oh well the link is there incase things need to get linked like the story and what not.

Seeing the new trailer I'm so happy DDC cast made it in, Wakasagihime, Sekibanki, Kagerou and Raikou! That right there is almost a whole team, I can't pick to use out of the 100!

This looks promising, though I can't help but "YO DAWG" it up when you see Touhous fighting with other Touhous. :V

I gotta say, I love the spritework in this game. I also like the battle screen, it feels fresh yet familiar at the same time. I do have a few questions though...

- Will it use the same typing chart as 1.8?
- Will we be able to choose a male or female character, or at least different characters?
- Will we be able to trade Puppets online?
- Will there still be HMs?

Either way, I look forward to playing this game once it's been translated. :D

There appear to be two different player characters in the trailer and HMs seem to be replaced by key-items such as a blow-up raft. (you can see that one in the trailer just before the one minute mark)
Typechart will be the one from 1.8 versions.

Well, a few people started working on translating the trial. I didn't stick around to see if they ever got anywhere, but there is certainly interest. I'd honestly say that a patch is a bit of a given.

Wait, why are some of the puppet names written in English?

It could have been the staff nicknaming them in English or someway to show who that character was, it's doubtful but I wonder if the Kana for their names are not used so they were made into English? (really really doubt that though.)

Yeah

This is incorrect. When the people of Shoddy Touhoumon Purple were translating the demo of TPDP, we also translated the typings of the game, and many of them are not the same. Here are the types in TPDP.

無 < No one seems to agree on a translation for this, so for now we're calling it Mu until full release. Most of us want to call it Void, however.
夢 (Dream) Not the same dream type in TPP 1.8, it's a move that every puppet starts with a level 5 that isn't super effective or resisted by anything.
炎 (Fire)
水 (Water)
自然 (Nature)
大地 (Earth)
鋼鉄 (Steel)
風 (Wind) This acts as the new flying type
雷 (Lightning, Electric)
光 (Light)
闇 (Dark) More earthy, youkai darkness.
冥 (Nether) The more ghostly, dead-like darkness.
毒 (Poison)
闘 (武) (Warrior) The Fighting type, sounds cooler.
幻 (Illusion) This isn't the same illusion in 1.8
音 (Sound) As strange as a typing as this sounds, it works very well for this game.

Here is our translation page: http://thpp.supersanctuary.net/forum/index.php?topic=303.0 To get some more info.

Also our main topic as well: http://thpp.supersanctuary.net/forum/index.php?PHPSESSID=167a2ac70c614a6f3c834a4543c18d15&board=12.0

Yeah from what other have talked about it would seem that "Nothing" seems close but for the edit of actual text in game "Void" (as long as it means the same thing in Japanese, I don't translate so I wouldn't know) then I'm good for void. None might work but I don't think it really conveys the same meaning as nothing or void can do.

I am not a translator, but that word doesn't exactly translate to void. If people agree to use that, I would be okay with it.

The word 無 translates to nothing. It doesn't exactly mean void, since void is generally defined by the word 空. The previous word generally means nothing or none. Void usually implies a vacuum in space and that is used by the latter word.
When talking about typing, the word 無 would closest translate to typeless or no type.

As long as you notify it somewhere, I think it's okay to strech the language a little so it doesn't sound weird. I find "Void" to sound way cooler than "Nothing" or "None".

Although, thinking about it, a lot of words could replace "nothingness" to an extent, like "Blank" or "Nil".

Translating things is hard. :V

I looked at the type chart and noted something. Does X mean that 無 and 幻 are super effective to each other, or that they have no effect towards each other? Because if its the latter, then it kind of mimics the relationship between Normal(or Fighting) and Ghost types in the Pokemon games. What do attacks done with the 無 element actually look like, though?

Warning I'm still on the Japanese demo, not even sure if there is a full English patch for the demo.

In the demo these are the only two 無 elements are these two attacks.

In therms of looks... well one does a power up and the other looks like a simple shot that spreads and converges on the enemy.

I don't even know what the power up attack even does.

They don't look special, so I guess Normal would be the equivalent.

It means they have no effect towards each other. If I were to guess, 無 attacks would be like normal attacks in Pokemon. It will probably be stuff like Punch, Kick, Slap, Book Smash, etc. Not actually Martial Arts moves, that would fall under "Fighting" type. But generic attacks.

Oh hell yes! I just found out today about a 2.02 demo on the website. Lots of changes in this version, the intro uses the trailer they had for the game.

A few NPC's are in a different place (like Maribel and Renko), if you talk to the guy with glasses before the forest you can PICK YOUR STARTER OUT OF ALL POSSIBLE PUPPETS!! I had no idea who to pick but I ended up with Wakasagihime (which the english name doesn't fit so she's wakasagi for now.), Genji the turtle is in the pond next to the Hakurei shrine. NEW BATTLE MUSIC! (for the wild puppets battles, I like it was more!) Currently still playing but this is all I have for now.

Here's the link: look for the link with the 2.02 for all you non moonspeakers out there.

EDIT: Wow! Mai is good. I easily beat Marisa with just attacking.

EDIT2: Mai just one-shotted Chen.
