Keine's history manipulation is in some way like memory manipulation and also make people see or not see things, but no physical changes are made to surroundings, right?
I think it's like, it makes people see how things would look like if history had taken a different path. She doesn't really manipulate memories, since in IN everyone remembered that the Human Village was there, they just couldn't see it (with the exception of Yukari), but her ability certainly doesn't make physical changes in the world (since, again, Yukari could see the village normally).

I tend to say that her ability is making illusions based on alternate history paths. Although this is probably not how it really works, I think it's a passable simplification.

And to add, the reason Yukari could see the Human Village just fine is because she's been there since the very creation of the village. As a really old youkai, she knows the true history of the village and so even if the history was "told" to her (by Keine's ability) Yukari could reject it.

....I'm still not sure how or why Hopeless Masquerade got away with what it did.
Heard that someone at Tasofro is a porn/lolicon artist and that s/he made Byakuren and Futo's sprites, which explains "certain things about them." Maybe by the time ZUN noticed it, it was already too late to make changes, so he had no choice but to let it pass.

But then there's Kokoro's skirt...  That doesn't look like something ZUN, who obviously made her initial design, would do...

IIRC that artist was brought on fairly late, after the groundwork had already been done - most or all of his stuff was only added in the patches.
Plus, lots of respected artists got started on porn (though usually under a pseudonym). Porn sells, and it's good for learning anatomy.

Overall HM is still way less sexualised than the average fighting game. Byakuren jiggles, but vanity is a central part of her character and she still dresses modestly anyway.

I doubt they'd outright change it, and her skirt has stayed like that in later appearances.

My point is that a skirt like that doesn't look like something ZUN, who doesn't like to sexualize his characters, would come up with.  She doesn't even look like she's wearing bloomers...

Maybe I'm a hopeless pervert, but what is remotely "sexual" about this skirt? Thighs are showing? idgi

The faces on her skirt are actually holes, which shows off the skin underneath and is sometimes the subject of lewdness for some artists.

Don't you guys know? No woman is allowed to show any kind of skin above the knee in touhou because then millions of sexually deprived nerds will have heart attacks in their chairs and be unable to function in their daily lives because, as we all know, the mere glimpse of female skin drives everyone with a Y chromosome into a drooling sexual coma. God forbid they might decide to wear mini-skirts or swimsuits in the future. Then we truly would have a crisis on our hands.

Yuugi's skirt is semi-transparent. Confirmed by the man himself.

ZUN's fine with leg showing. Lots of characters have short skirts in the first place.  Far as I can tell, the line gets drawn at the panty-line area.  When I mentioned Sakuya and Reisen explicitly wearing bloomers, both examples were from art works where you were literally looking right up their skirts with them bent over (and if that sounds dirty, that's because it really IS that same position).  "But it's okay" since... well, bloomers. Really poofy ones.

I assume that Meiling was given pants for the fighting games not because ZUN's allergic to showing legs, but because of her high kicks that would have made the panty shot unavoidable (and unlike others, Meiling wearing bloomers would make no sense)

Of course, as we all know, HM avoids the panty shots, too, even if just barely.

I don't see a problem with Kokoro's skirt either. Or Byakuren's jiggle physics. Futo's legs shock me the most, but it's not a big deal.

Anyone knows where the music rights in this fangame belong to? I'm particularly looking for the Extra Stage boss theme author's name or alias.

I suppose the above thread was for official games but forgive me if I'm still in the wrong one.

Even so, it's not something explicitly shown in official materials.  You can't tell she's wearing that kind of skirt from her official artwork.  It's not like with Kokoro where the skin underneath is clearly seen.

You actually can see the silhouette of Yuugi's legs in her official art in SA.  Of course, I wouldn't exactly call a silhouette of ZUN art to be particularly sexual. Also, for all we know, Yuugi could be wearing pants or modesty shorts underneath there (but probably not bloomers, at least)

That said, I don't think Kokoro's skirt having holes us any more leg-showing than Reison or Kogasa, whos' skirts cut off around where Kokoro's holes are on Kokoro (...far as I can tell.  Two different artists results in two different body proportions, after all)

They kinda have to be cut too in order to have that paper lantern effect, dont' they?  If they were just painted on instead of actual holes, that'd ruin a lot of the festival effect, I think.  Assuming that's what ZUN was going for there.

Even though all of those that you guys mentioned like short skirts, panties, and Byakuren's Jiggly Boobies. At least they don't show off too much of their skin. Of course, those drawings were made by other artists since ZUN can't draw well.

I'm curious about Deep Rain, wasn't he/she the author of the Terminus Boss song from Phantasmagoria Trues? Saturn I think it was called.

Only because of the animation, right?  Not the artwork/design itself?

I wouldn't put too much credence on the animation making her skirt fluff up to that point, considering that this is the same game with Byakuren's jiggle physics and Futo's skirt preventing a panty shot only by virtue of strange mysterious magical physics.

I was reading a bit of PMiSS and i got a few doubts about Yuuka's powers.....
Quotes from her Memento's page:

"The ability to manipulate flowers is something to the extent being able to make flowers bloom, shift the face of sunflowers towards the sun, or make withered flowers bloom again."

"Completely unrelated to her abilities, she uses her umbrella and scatters flower petals to perform graceful attacks."

1) I guess this is more for those who can translate the original japanese but: what does "able to make flowers bloom" EXACTLY mean? That she can make already existing flower buds open up, or that she can make flowers grow from the ground?

2) Despite Akyuu's claim that it's unrelated, i doubt that Yuuka goes around with her pockets full of petals and, WHILE PERFORMING AN ATTACK, toss them in the air....
Does this mean that her "manipulation of flowers" allow her to create petals in the air?

Personally, up until know i believed that she can actually make flowers grow anywhere (NORMAL flowers, not those lovecraftian flower-monsters that many fanartist seems to like >_>) and can create petals from nothing.....

After all Akyuu herself admit that she is more like a force of nature than a normal youkai, and even mere fairies can create at will the element they represent (ie. Cirno).

3) I remember that in one of the PC-98 games there was an ending where Yuuka acquire the "ultimate magic", and that not even ZUN had any idea what that means.
Is that ending considered the canon one? (although the PC-98 games aren't much canon to begin with :P)

Yuuka's PC-98 ending was canon as of her guest appearance in Kioh Gyoku, as stated in her profile there.  Whether that means it's still canon as of Windows is anyones' guess, although it might be notable that the Touhou characters in Kioh Gyoku were closer to their windows designs than their PC-98 designs.

Well, there is a theory that Yuuka is actually an "ascended fairy" more so than an ordinary (as ordinary as she would be) youkai. Going with this it would be clear that she is capable of just invoking her powers anywhere with next to no limitation (Think of it: Cirno can still create ice even in a nuclear reactor)
Was it Eiki who said something of the sorts to Cirno in PoFV? That if her life continues the way it is going that she will someday achieve a higher status of being? I'm certain to have read something like that in an official work...

Anyway, there is not too much canon stuff about Yuuka to fully confirm the extend of her abilities but considering her level of power it is a fair assumption to say that she can just go somewhere and have flowers grow out of the ground.
If that is not the case and she needs something existing to work off of then she should be able to manipulate the growth of any existing plant life, as in make a seed of a flower that is planted in the ground rapidly grow.

And that is just beside of the other stuff she can do. The magic stuff with lasers and shooting down spaceships.

Edit: Yes, Eiki did say something along those lines to Cirno. Not exactly that she would transcend her current status but that she holds a little too much power and it might change everything for her in the future. So the theory with Yuuka being an ascended fairy is not entirely baseless. Especially considering her very fairy-like wings in Kyoh Gyoku.

Eh, seems like a pretty thin stretch based on too little canonical information. Not that "theories" aren't fun - because they are - they just really don't have a place in a canon-based Q&A thread.

The "blooming" talked about with Yuuka is indeed just blooming. But what Akyuu is describing isn't her exact range of powers, just the sorts of things she can do. It isn't very questionable to say that she could grow whatever flowers from the ground wherever (unless you want to be super duper accurate). Also, the "scattering flower petals" is a bit liberal since it just says flowers, not specifically petals, although as stated it has nothing to do with her ability.

So, if i understand it correctly, it seem reasonable (although not specifically confirmed) that she can grow flowers anywhere and anytime, while the "scattering in the air while attacking" is more uncertain....

I'm trying to be accurate because i'm writing a fic in which she uses her powers to their max extent in an real life-or-death fight and this detail is very important:

if she is able to grow and/or create flowers/petals from nothing anywhere she want she can literally make them appear inside an opponent's body, for a very unusual and creepy death.....
