Ace Attorney Investigations II - A Following
« on: June 25, 2013, 05:00:51 PM »
This'll be a bit different, but here we go:

Fans of the AA series will know that AAI2 never got localized, and despite many individual attempts to translate the game, pretty much all of them have run out of steam very early on.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hzQuGq21Dlc&list=PLjRAU3j6cNaixtcLDixVlaz7Vcthm0rmh
Not anymore!

Post here if you're like me - if Japanese is like Chinese to you, and you've been saving yourself for something like this for who knows how long.

Purpose of this thread is twofold: to happily follow the translation with speculations (we don't want you if you've spoiled yourself, sorry!) and to support the translator as thanks for the ridiculous speed they're doing this at.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WqST5c8_L8o

There IS an actual fan-made patch underway. To quote the wiki page: "A fan translation of Gyakuten Kenji 2, titled Ace Attorney Investigations: Miles Edgeworth: Prosecutor's Path, is in development. In October 2012, footage was posted online showing the intro to the game's first case, "Turnabout Target", translated into English. The translation patch of the first case was initially announced for a January 2013 release, however, due to extensive de-bugging and work on translating the second case, the release date is currently undetermined." To be frank, who knows when that'll happen.

So yeah. Happy viewing and pausing-of-the-video-when-needed.

Holy balls.

Someone had translated the first episode a while ago, but it didn't get any further than that.  The one you just linked by dowolf is already almost finished with case 2.

Thank you for bringing this to my attention .<3

This sounds like it's been slowed down to 70% or so.  Hopefully he re-uploads it at proper speed at some point, but this will do for now.

It's barely noticeable (in fact, I've only noticed it during some transitions when things suddenly speed up / slow down), or at least that's how I have it, dunno.

Without spoiling any of the actual events, this first case was the worst thing in my opinion. All the random chess terminology that Edgeworth has never used before just to make his stupid new 'talking to people' technique pretend to make sense instead of making him look like he's talking to imaginary chess friends, combined with the 'and here's Kay with no reason whatsoever' and the animeness of the case pushed to eleven. I really hope the non-tutorial isn't as hamfisted as this.

Uh, Edgeworth has always been a fan of chess. Sure it feels a little weird to have it pop up all of a sudden but it's in character at least.

If this is the same project that springboarded from the Court Records forum, I actually did some work on the first and second cases. I had to stop around the third since that's when I got my new job, but it's looking all right so far.

Also, I've played the game all the way through. I would say it's better than the first AAI game by a decent margin.

I hear this a lot.  It's yet another reason why I'm sad it didn't get localized.

That it's that jarring is probably indicative of questionable writing more than a direct hit at Edgeworth himself in my opinion, I reckon.

So, uh,

Spoiler:
Why is it that I doubt the killer is Fang? I actually thought it was Ms. Warden for the longest time. Now I'm having my doubts but if she's not the killer she's probably involved in the inevitable Evil Syndicate anyway. I also thought that the 'attacker' in the detention cell wasn't a dog at all (look at the mirror) but a cat or something like it. Dunno, maybe I'm dung. I mean, I thought Ally was going to be that cat but whoops sudden Alligator siren.

As of part 4 of this case I am completely unsurprised by this turn of events. On the plus side, this is more fun to watch now that the tutorials are done.

From a YouTube comment:

"The fan translation team has just finished case 3, and will most likely be finishing the rest of the game before the end of the summer. Cases 1 and 2 will be released soon.
Therefore, it will indeed be localised."

Confirm / Deny please. I didn't see this when I was searching a while ago.

It sounds like it's the same 'team' that's always been doing this? I've seen them comment on a few earlier videos too, basically asking why dowolf was translating on their own instead of working with the team, and dowolf answered that he'd be satisfied with his work doing it on his own. If he keeps up this rate he'll be finished before the 'couple months time' that the fantranslation is going for.
