Vividred Operation (ビビッドレッド・オペレーション Bibiddoreddo Operēshon^?) is a Japanese anime television series produced by A-1 Pictures and directed by Kazuhiro Takamura, which began airing in Japan on January 11, 2013
The story is set in a futuristic and peaceful world made possible thanks to the invention of the Manifestation Engine (示現エンジン Jigen Enjin^?), which solved an energy crisis five years prior. On the island of Ima Oshima (BLUE ISLAND), Akane Isshiki lives a peaceful life with her family. When the world is threatened by an alien force known as the Alone, Akane takes up a special battle suit created by her grandfather known as the Vivid System to face against the threat.

I have watched episode one and cannot believe how this show has captured my breath even with all the similarities to some anime of the past, combining everything from cute talking animal advisor to mahou-shoujo esque henshin sequence. The show reeks of Strike Witches, and feels a bit like Nanoha meets Star Driver in an epic showdown of Godannar-style storytelling. So far I been very interested, and I am sure to be watching this to the end thanks to the direction of the art, which happens to include Redjuice himself (of Guilty Crown fame) on board.

Crisp, agile, and wonderful, it is not a mahou shoujo of typical frilly type, but it has all the wonders it has to offer. Giant monsters aside, I sure hope someone else is talking about this.

Welp, know it caught my attention at least. Looks like an interesting take on the magical girl genre, eheh~

...I can't be the only one who saw this as pretty much Mazinger Z with magical girls, right? Just... So many similarities... Not that that's a bad thing. Quite the contrary, even. ^_^

I suppose it would just be the mayo diluted with the starches of the rice; I can imagine it tasting pretty decent in moderation, but damn Akane layered that stuff on.

Meh, don't see it happening. Seems way more Nanoha than Madoka, honestly. If anything, might end up being the thing that puts the pieces of the genre back together after Madoka took it apart.

...Although that last bit is probably just overly wishful thinking on my part. But oh well, at least when the Sailor Moon remake comes out that'll achieve that goal anyways.

This is MOTHERFUCKING GAOGAIGAR with magical girls. And holy hell there is so much right with that.

And something the genre sorely needs in the post-Madoka fallout.

So is the fanservice as excessive and in-your-face as the promotional art makes it seem? I want to check out this series given your approval of it, but I can't help but be put off by the gratuitousness of some of the design choices.

It's nowhere near Strike Witches levels, if that's what you're asking. I think this one's trying a little harder to have an actual plot.

Yeah, despite what the promo art might make you believe, it's not like you're having Akane's ass shoved in your face every three seconds. There's fanservice, yes, but it's at a tolerable level that doesn't really get in the way of actual plot.

Besides, at times it got so awesome I barely noticed any of the fanservice due to it being eclipsed by the magic boomerangs and giant hammers. ^___^

Well, if the notion of magical girl Gaogaigar manages to outweigh the negatives... I might as well give it a shot. Hopefully it can carry whatever momentum it has and not turn into a massive trainwreck like Symphogear did.

If you aren't going to watch this show for fanservice then holy cow you're watching the wrong show since nearly everything is at least some form of fanservice. If this isn't an homage to mecha and mahou shoujo and overall silliness in anime then I don't know what is.

Well, of course it's full of fanservice. But it's more of the awesome kind of fanservice, and less of the shallow kind.
...Honestly, they should've just called the series GaoGaiGirls or something, because that pretty much sums it up all the awesome so far.
