Lol...good job...good job. If the grinding is getting to hard you should do some 4X EP gain cheat...

and did you skipped some story? And I feel some part that maybe you are not too interested in kinda ended up like a rushed summery.

Uh, no. The story is practically non existant. It is litterally "Oh, there's this evil mage on top of the tower. Go kill him.
There are people in this world who enjoy being alone. But there isn't a single person who can bear solitude.

Don't forget the jewels. You have to retrieve the jewels that he stole from the king, or princess, or whoever. I forget which.

Okay, looked up the story for anyone who actually cares about it.

Evil dude shows up the kingdom and does magic.  His name is Tyrhung.  The King immediately makes him head wizard and gives the guy loads of gold and what not.  Hooray!

Later, there's a party or something in the castle and the Tyrhung sees the King's daughter for the first time.  And he also sees her necklace.  Grabs the necklace (but surprising not the girl), turns into a dragon (HEY GUYS, WHAT DO YOU THINK THE FINAL BOSS WILL BE?!) and flies off to what is the currently the Dark Spire.  He makes it all evil and stuff with his evil magic.

King puts out a wanted thingie and will pay any group that can slay the wizard and bring back the necklace loads and loads of gold (as well as women (or men if you're female)) and treasures.  That's where you come in.

Sorry, it wasn't the princess, it was the QUEEN!  So yes, I'm assuming she's off limits.

And the necklace is called the Fairy Tears.  Hmm.... where have I heard that before?

I was about to complain about how miserable your AC was on your tank.  It was almost sickening to watch at first.  But I think somewhere along the line you upgraded your armor because suddenly you've got 0 AC... which isn't bad for that point I suppose.  (By the time you reach 3F, you should be carting around about a -7 or better on your warrior after applying Holy Guardian.  Maybe more, if the shop happens to have been carrying "that" armor... :3)  Besides, you seem to be enjoying the Hide-And-Screw-With-Enemy-AI trick, which will work... for now</ominous>

By the way, I'm playing this through too.  I'm kicking myself because I'm nearing the point to start working on dual-classing but my Mage is Neutral and I don't particularly feel like turning him into a Samurai, he's an Elf, he was supposed to be an epically effective Druid T_T

Either way, if you get stuck I can probably point you in the right direction and/or give tips.  I'll be following along from now on, I suppose... and will start jabbing my yap about if you don't tell me not to give the tips right now.  If you want me to, however, I can point you in the direction of useful equips/spells/goodies/quest answers/whatever :3

((By the way, to the one who was comparing this and Etrian Odyssey - I don't know what you're on, but I'm several thousands of gold above what I could possibly ever need to spend at this point in the game))

That was early game.  By the time you get past early game of both, money is no longer scarce.  Kinda how it works in all games like that.

Ah, yeah, I can understand that.  Although Dark Spire became no-money-worries by the end of 2F... and Etrian Odyssey even in the aftergame I can still always use more money @_@

I'm tearing through this game now, personally, so it'll be interesting to see how fast you do/do not progress 8O

About the pacing, I personally prefer not to rush the game.  Besides, there's only so much you put into an update at a time.  That and I find making the dialog quite a bit of fun, so again, I'm taking my sweet time.  Don't know about Xan's opinion on the subject.

Yeah, I can understand.  That's fine XD Is this not your first runthrough of the game then?  Or have you been looking stuff up?

I just discovered tonight that in order to raise my Halfling Thief/Mage's STR high enough to become a Wizard, it's gonna cost me roughly 6-8 levels' worth of EP. *Sigh*

Not really that hard if you

To get one, create a party of four characters all with one alignment (chaotic for Dark elf, Lawful for High Elf). Then, go to the corresponding temple, pray with each character, enter the tower, turn around and go back to town, pray, tower, etc. Do this 10 times to be safe. Then create 15 more characters each being of the same alignment. This should push your total alignment value over the threshold allowing you to create a character of aforementioned race.

...Well not that bad compare to grinding level.

: Warning: This episode contains real progess. As some may find this a turn off, we're including a warning.

As we were exploring the first floor, we came upon a room with a door that seemed unopenable at first. Some sort of mechanism was holding the stupid thing closed. On inspection of the surroundings, we discovered that there were four floor switches in the two nearby hallways that were keeping it closed. After pressing each of them once (and only once), we were able to enter

: I wonder who's room this is? It seems... out of place

: What an adorable doll.

: We shouldn't be wasting time around here playing with dolls. I mean, in the time we've spent here alone I could have killed at least 7 people.

: No, I'd never destroy it. That would be mean...

: Ever heard of mercy killing?

: Destroy it? HECK YES!

: I somehow get the feeling that Black Mage should NOT be the one doing the destroying, or we'll be having undesirable mental images for several days. It would probably be worse than Kamui.

: I'll do it then.

: In the shattered remains of the doll was a card saying "Thank you"

: "Thank You"? What the hell. I swear, this place is just going to spoil my good mood every few minutes isn't it.

: Destroying the doll allowed us access to where the Moonlight Jewel we had been tasked with finding was. The man we were to deliver it to was the owner of the Casino on the 2nd floor. After dropping it off, we turned in the quest back at the guild.

While there, we took another quest. Apparently, some noble had managed to loose a valuable heirloom gambling. Using Recca's newfound understanding of gambling, we won back the item (as well as a good 3200 gold). The items owner, fearful of the scandal that might come if word of the incident got out, met us in a dark hallway nearby. And by dark, I mean 100% pitch black. However, his voice sounded suspiciously familiar...

We returned to the guild to recieve our reward.

Apparently, Eventail is a moron. Well, more of a moron than I had thought. Of course, Flonne insisted on not blackmailing him

: That wouldn't be right. Besides, we made a lot of money off of him anyways.

:
* Etna facepalms
Good to hear...

There was only one more thing to do. Take down those grave robbers. It took us a while to find where they were hiding (In a dark room, in a section of the first floor that was only accessable from the second floor, unless you had the clover key. Coincidentally, we found the clover key right nearby...)

: Uh, can we just talk this over...

: Why should we? These morons are going to be easy kills, especially with my new fire spell. I should be able to crisp them all easily.

: I think they're going to attack us no matter what. But if that's what they want... I AM SANGER ZONVOLT, THE SWORD THAT SMITES EVIL!

This was a fairly challenging fight. While Sanger's armor was quite capable of blocking most of their blows, there were eight of them, and they could hit quite hard, not to mention they were quite good at avoiding being hit. Unfortunately for them, they weren't nearly as good at avoiding fireballs. Or being put to sleep. Nor did the have Love Girl here around to heal them. We took them down without any casualties. Apperently, they were a lot stupider than the thieves guild, since the guild was at least smart enough not to advertise that they were theives. These guys? Well...

We figured that would be good enough proof for Sir Garland. And indeed it was.

: I swear, if he says that one more time...

Returning to the guild hall once more, we recieved our rewards (finally), and took the one remaining quest.

Apparently the thieves guild was a bunch of greedy bastards, who wanted ANOTHER jewel. But apparently, our guild had some sort of agreement with them, so...

They'd get the jewel all right. But whether they would be willing to pay our price... That would be another story...

:  YAR!  I be your Captain!

"Aye, welcome back, Captain!"  replies the voice in a joyful tone.  A metal clanging sounds from behind the door.

"Wait!" says a different voice, "If you're realy the Captain, you'd be wearing a handsome hat.  Turn your head this way."

Leeory turns so the man can get a better look.

Two pairs of eyes squint through the window.  "You're not the Captain.  Don't ye ever come back!"

:  HHHOOOOOOOOOLLLLL!

:  A woman!  She's clearly in trouble!

She takes notice of the new arrivals and looks out in earnest.  "I sprained my leg.  Could you please help me?"  From her demeanor, she appears to be of noble birth, but there are no escorts or servants in sight.

What is she doing in this place all alone?  Even more stange, she is lightly dressed as if on her way to a picnic, not a dungeon.  So many questions...

Ew...
And to make it worse, this is image #69.  No, I did not plan this ahead of time for Leeroy, alone, to find her.

Let's talk to her and ask what happened.

"I simply hurt my leg and found myself in trouble.  I'm not used to this sort of thing..."

Ah geez, it's that kind of royalty.  Ask why she is in the dungeon.

"We all have our reasons, especially people who end up in a dreadful place like this... Don't you agree?"

:  I got punched out by a guy and now I'm stuck in here too!

Ask who she is.

"I am but a harmless maiden, nothing more."

Do I sense a slight too much innocence here?  Regardless, I can't do anything else with her, not even rescue her.  <.<;

I guess we'll be seeing her again.

Xan, for future reference, she's in the red highlighted room.

:  To pull or not to pull?  Must mankind ponder this question to the ends of what we call eternity?  What if pulling it is irreversable?  WHO CARES?!  LEEROY JENKINS PULLS THE LEVEL!

Leeroy pulls the lever.  CLANK!  The dull sound of metal slamming can be heard coming from somewhere.

Into another room...

The room is dead silent.  Shouldn't a place called the "Generator Room" be noisy?  What's going on here?

In the center of the room, an oddly-shaped machine rests upon a pedestal made of verious parts, and a brass cage sits on top.

Let's examine the cage!

It is delicate but well-constructed.  Inside there is a small box and device that resembles a water mill.  There is also a glass bottle, probably filled with water at one time.  The cage seems to be meant for raising small animals.  There are no animals in the cage right now, but there evidence that it had been recently occupied.

Oh, so the (I'm assuming) elevator is powered by a rodent.  How long ago was it that this game made sense?

Let's exmine the glass bottle.

The empty bottle has been installed upside-down.  It looks like it can be removed.

:  BBBBBOOOOOTTTTTTTTTTTTTLLLLLLEEEEEEEE!!!!!

Let's examine the wheel.

It looks like an ordinary wheel, but upon closer inspection of the bearing, there is a chrome-plated metal wirse connected.  The wire is connected to an unidentifiable device installed in the pedestal.

Ah, okay.  Let's examine the door.

Unclasped, the door opens and closes freely.

FRICKING WHOOPTY DOO!

Examine the pedstal.

Various devices are attached to the cast-iron frame, but how they work cannot be determined.  A sign reads "Power Reactor."  There is also an etching that says, "Wheel Type Mana Booster. patent pending."  Everything is making less and less sense.

You heard it from the game itself.  This world of magitech doesn't even try to make sense.

Can't seem to do anything with it now.  Let's leave.

As completed as this floor is going to be for a while.  Now let's get 2 HP Leeory home.

Our 100 kill enemy!  Shiny Objects, also known as BRONZE COINS, WHICH MEANS LOTS OF MONEY AND EXP!

They can also breathe.  They're magical you know.

After scoring triple digit MULAH, we're getting out.

BUT WAIT!  THAT'S NOT ALL!  WE HAVE ENOUGH FOR ANOTHER LEVEL UP!

There's Leeroy at level 4.

Here's Sanger in comparision:

He's at level 6 I might add.  Note that Sanger doesn't have any gear on right now.

===========================================================================

:  Hah!  I'm far stronger now!  I challenge you again!

:  You're under contract, so you can't do that any more.

:  But-but-

:  Regardless, we're leaving for the dungeon yet again.

BM:  Yeah, whatever, have a nice time or something.

.
.
.

:  Was it a good idea to leave Black Mage alone in town?

:  Come to think of it, he's is rather violent.

:  Oh no, I was thinking that he might break something by tripping over.

:  ...

Recca equips the Tricorne Hat

His class changes from Thief to Ninja Pirate!

They only get uglier.

ZERG RUSHED BY A BUNCH OF WEAK ENEMIES!

DEATH OF A THOUSAND PAPER CUTS!

==============================================================================

Well, I'm back after crying my eyes out from losing to a pile of coins (AKA, THE WEAKEST ENEMY IN THE GAME).  Slightly different team build this time.  Dropping Leeroy for Black Mage who now has area effect spells.

Also, new quest:

: Here is a request from Sir Garland..."

Eventail clears his throat as he looks over the document, then reads aloud, "I am extremely satifsfied.  Those of you who cleared the mission I assigned, well done.  But there is no limit to human desire."

:  When did Sir Youpassalot grow a brain and get a major in philosophy?

"You adventureres must continue to impress me, for I am extremely troubled... Though I have sent out many adventurers, no progress has been made towrads defeating Tyrhung.  Was my guidance inadequate?"

:  No shit, sherlock.

"This question has led to many sleepless nights.  I leave it up to you, adventurers!  Help me regain my ability to sleep by doing your duty."

:  Black Mage, do you still have that sleep spell?

:  That lame thing?  Tossed it out for some more doomdayish spells.

"That is all," says Eventail, putting hte document down.  "In short, you must defeat the most powerful enemies to prove your ability to him."

:  ...coins...

Ask Sir Garland if you have any more questions.  Good luck."

Going...

:  So yeah, there's some place some where with ghosts sealed inside.  Go kill them.

:  Fuck you.  At least tell us where it is.

:  Some place in the tower I think.

:  ...

Meantime, back in the Tower, I try every item in my inventory on the mystery princess until...

If they were exaggerated anymore, one might think she was acting.  After a moment of thought, she removes a bracelet from her slender wrist.  "I only have this to give you as a token of gratitude," she says timidly.  "It may fetch a good price if sold."  She hands it to Sanger and curtsies once more.  "From teh bottom of my heart, thank you," she says, smiling brightly.  "Take care, all of you."  With those words, she dashes off into the dungeon.

:  Shouldn't she be heading out?  The door is that way.

:  The general level of IQ around this place is in the single digits.

And a little later...

:  We'll be needing that parrot.

:  500 gold.

:  Sold.

:  While we're here, I'd like to bet a little.

:  Please, let's not have a repeat of Black Mage's ordeal.

Recca:  Ha ha, please.  (Dice rigging no jutsu)

: 8

:  9, I'd like to add that to the pot and go double or nothing.

:  10

: 11, double or nothing again.

:  Hmm... 7

:  8, double it.

:  Herg, 11!  Ha!

: 12, give me that 800.

Repeat and Rinse.
????
PROFIT!

Gambling skill is a must have.

New room found!

Trash that cannot be incinerated--

Miscellaneous items have been left here.  It is possible taht they were extrorted from gamblers who could not pay their debts.  The item does not seem like much at first glance, but there might be a use for it.

Obtained Skull Key.

:  Key, eh?

:  For every key, there's a door to be unlocked with it.  NEW MISSION!  LET'S FIND THAT DOOR!

:  Blood boiling...  Need to kill rising...

:  Recca?

:  The eternal enemies of the ninja!  PIRATES!  DIE YOU BASTARDS!  HA HA HA HA!

After murdering some pirates...

:  Ah... that felt good.

:  Oh look, more pirates.

:  RAAAAAGGGGGHHHHHHHHH!  DIE FIENDS!

.
.
.
.
.

One teleport maze later and swing being flipped...

:  Sweet.  And it only took us thirty minutes of wandering a redundant teleport maze.

A little later and we suit up Sanger as a Pirate.

"Who be yee."

:  Captain, now let me in!

"Wait, yee need the captain's hat, show me the hat."

:  I be wearing it.

"And his fine sword?"

:  You mean this sword?

"Aye, and your clever parrot?"

:  OF COURSE I HAVE MY BLASTED PARROT!  NOW LET ME IN!

"Aye aye, sir!"

We go in.

"Who is this?  It ain't the Captain!"  says one voice.  "Then cut 'im down!" repsonds another.  There are sounds of movement."

Battle time.

:  KILL!

11 Pirates later...

We have 11 MORE PIRATES to kill.  Screw it, Xan, have fun!  I've already equipped Sanger with what he needs to sneak in.  Just walk forward.

Next time on Dark Spire: The LP!

You have no idea until you've had to grind just short of 100,000 EP to get your thief to dualclass due to your own lack of foresight into the fact a Wizard requires Strength (WHAT THE HELL).

Hnnng.

Luckily for me, I prerolled all these guys for half an hour straight to make sure I don't spend hours getting their stats up.  Exception is Sanger, but he only needs one 9000EP for vit.
