About their nicknames
« on: February 03, 2012, 04:16:56 PM »
Before talking the real topic, I want to ask: Are there any good way to get the last SC of Hong Meiling in EoSD?  It's really a hardcore SC. I always need one or
two bombs everytime here.

Then...

I'm new here, so I'm curious about nicknames of girls in English. Now, in my country, we do have some nicknames. So I'm interested that are there any
difference here.
At least, I know Cirno=⑨ in every country :D

Ok, I will give the list of nicknames in my country in English:
( Just some popular names,so it's not a complete list, just part of them, big part...And, I know they sound weird in English, but that makes sense....Grrr)

Reimu=Zero integrity=Red & White

Rumia=Decimal

I mean, most of them are just shared with their Japanese nicknames.

Sanae- 2P/ZUN's new girlfriend (Not sure if either of these carry between the two languages)
Kanako- Old Hag
Reisen Udongein Inaba- Useless Rabbit [Only Good for her Sex Appeal]/Newbie bait
Reisen- Reisen II (Pretty sure this is just in English)
Reimu- RedWhite
Mariea- BlackWhite
Yukari- Yukarin
Mystia- Misty/Food
Patchouli- Patchy/occasionally grouped with Kaguya as a NEET
Remilia- Remi/Ojou-Sama
Yuuka- Yuukarin
Youmu- MyonMyon/THE SOFTEST
Kisume- Bucket-Loli/Bucket-Ranka
Utsuho- Beyond Okuu of course, occasionally she is a ⑥, being arguably dimmer than Cirno
Rin- Orin/OrinRin
Ichirin- Unzan's Hitbox
Byakuren- YOUKAI JESUS, WHO SACRIFICED HERSELF TO SAVE OUR SINS.

I'm kinda confused a bit by this because I don't know which country these nicknames are originating from. Though right now, I'm really drawing a blank for nicknames since I think there's more memes that I've seen rather than nicknames themselves.

However, I'm rather curious how ⑥=Utsuho got started, if it was someone just flipping a ⑨ or if there's something more to it.

She's as memetically dumb as Cirno, but her powers are opposite (in terms of temperature). Hence they inverted the 9 to represent that, which is also her stage number. Also, I hear the word for nine in japanese is pronounced "kuu", as in Okuu.

As for the other bit, I'd say plenty of these are memes rather than nicknames- things like "red-white" or "Unzan's hitbox" could be nicknames, but I couldn't imagine addressing someone as "useless rabbit only good for her sex appeal" or "forever 17".

Well for Reisen's, I included the part in bracket to elaborate. If anyone mentions alone the "Useless Rabbit" it's generally known to whom they refer.

I can see "the useless rabbit" being used in lieu of a name to refer to her if she isn't part of the conversation, sure.
Speaking of Reisen, though, isn't the "Inaba" part also nickname?
I think I read somewhere Kaguya calls all the rabbits that.

Everything about her name is a nickname V:

Reisen was the name given to her by the mary-sue sisters, Udongein by Eirin, and Inaba by Kaguya.

Oh and that reminds me

Watatsuki sisters- Mary Sues/Canon Sues. Mostly Yorihime though.

The one true nickname for Yorihime and Toyohime is "Watathingies."

Byakuren- YOUKAI JESUS, WHO SACRIFICED HERSELF TO SAVE OUR SINS.

I still don't like this nickname. Iku is far more of a youkai Jesus: She's a messenger/prophet, she's the right-hand woman for the most powerful known greater being in existence, and she's the Lord of the Dance.

Byakuren is more like Michael Jackson. She made some ethically questionable decisions that people tend to gloss over due to her celebrity status, and she tried to promote harmony between two races by changing herself from one to the other.

Eh, I always thought Yuyuko was the best Touhou Jesus.  Died to save people's souls (from being eaten) and all.  Then again, we all know my biases when it comes to Hakugyokurans.
Life and death are without purpose.  Our attempts to give them one are quite presumptuous of us.  But in the end, we exist, and that is enough.

NEET and China, I think, are on a level that's integrated into the character rather than arbitrarily used as a joke. While "Sakuya has pads" has a basis, it doesn't really fly high as a meme since the whole point is just to constantly reference her padding her chest; it's never-changing and has no potential for humor besides that. Kaguya being a NEET works because it gives an extra layer of characterization to Kaguya, rather than simply being a phrase that you repeat over and over. Plus, Kaguya actually is a NEET. A NEET that lives forever. Which is basically perfect. China isn't even a conscious meme a lot of the time. While I don't like it much either, China is literally just a nickname and doesn't affect her character nor add some annoying aspect to it. You can create content about Sakuya padding her breasts; you can't do anything with "China" besides calling her China.

I'm pretty sure Miss Kaenbyou uses it herself, so, no, we aren't protecting any non-existant carryover data here.  Still counts as a nickname though.

As for Miko, I call her Prince Shotoclone.  SHORYUKEN!

I made up nicknames for the new Ten Desires cast, mostly because I have yet to memorise their names.

Kyouko Kasodani: Broom-Dog
Yoshika Miyako: Zombie
Seiga Kaku: Seiga NyanNyan (seriously, English patch?)
Soga no Tojiko: Mima Feet
Mononobe no Futo: Surfer Dude
Toyosatomimi no Miko: Headphones and a Stick

I'm not creative, but hell, they work!!

I can't remember the names of most of the TD bosses, but how could you not remember Toyosatomimi no Miko?
Say it out loud. Quickly.
Toyosatomimi no Miko. ShikieikiYamaxanaduKeineKamishirasawaToyosatomiminomiko. 2.5 seconds of mellifluousness.

Er, anyway. I used to refer to the UFO cast as 'the mouse', 'the nun', 'brofist' (respond or you are not a bro), 'the sailor', 'the tiger', and 'the fashion victim'. The cast for every previous game since EoSD, I've found, were easy enough to memorize and nice enough to not require nicknames, with a couple of exceptions I'll probably remember as soon as I hit the post button.

Yuyuko's last name was always something of a confusing combination of mouth shapes for me. Saigyouji. Mostly because I have no idea what I'm supposed to do with a "y" when pronouncing Japanese words. I think I finally settled on something like "Sai-G'yoh-Ji," but it's still hard  and I'm sure that's wrong ;[

I called Toyosatomimi no Miko just DJ Loli or DJ Miko until I could get her last name down.

I still tend to call Kyouko "That echo bitch"

Tojiko is "Oh god the lightning how do I avoi- PICHU~N!"
