Running Touhou 6 off a disc on Windows 7
« on: May 24, 2011, 07:27:55 PM »
Hey, sorry if I posted this in the wrong place... this is like the ultimate noob question. Anyway, I recently bought EoSD from jbox and I've been trying to install it on my computer, which runs Windows 7 in English. I've tried installing a Japanese language pack and opening the install.exe file in AppLocale, but no matter what I do it always opens up in a window with a bunch of garbled slashes and question marks that never seems to work - and I can't tell how, because all the notifications are just random symbols. Believe me, I'm no techie at all and I'm a stupid gaijin baka who's never imported anything from Japan until now. Could someone help me out?

Have you tried:
Start ->Type "region and language" into the search bar and pick the one that says Region and Language -> Administrative tab -> Change System Locale to Japan?

EDIT:  I don't know if it'd work the same way for EoSD, but I did this to install PCB and it worked fine.

You shouldn't need to run it in applocale, should you?  Just make sure you're running it as an administrator.

stupid gaijin baka
:rage:

Jq1790 - It should work for both EoSD and PCB, I think. Last time I checked, it worked for both, for me anyways.

EoSD has japanese filenames in its files. Running the installer through appLocale or changing region settings to Japan would be necessary I think.

I've tried installing a Japanese language pack and opening the install.exe file in AppLocale, but no matter what I do it always opens up in a window with a bunch of garbled slashes and question marks that never seems to work - and I can't tell how, because all the notifications are just random symbols.

When running in appLocale, after selecting the program, you get a pull-down menu to select the language the program is supposed to be run in. Sometimes appLocale will automatically detect the language and select the proper choice for you, but some other times it will be blank and you'll have to select it yourself.

For japanese programs, pick 日本語 from the list.
