We're in a position of power here. If we don't buy, the oni goes hungry. Offering regular custom would be enough to have her eating out of the palm of our hand.
No, she had the power in that exchange. She knows enough about us to claim that we want the information that she has, while we have no idea who she is or what her situation is. Also, why would she want "guaranteed" patronage from us? We're only interested in certain bits of information most of the time, since we don't really deal in information like she does, so she can only sell to us when she thinks she has something worth selling. On the other hand, she's interested in any information that can make her a profit, so she'll definitely get a return on the deal.

>You take the box of quartzes to the back room, and cautiously open the cash box. Inside, you can see a number of cut red gems and black spheres, and no sign of money whatsoever. You're pretty sure the latter is black pearls, but you're not so sure about the former.

If we have petty cash upstairs we're going to need to grab that to use around today.  But since it's all we have, I don't think we should be using any of it to pay off the oni.  Instead I propose that we arrange a trade using one of the gems IF we can't work out a goods or service trade. There's probably something to these gems so we should try to hold on to them.

Yeah, I was thinking either pay her with a low denomination gem, or the rest of that bottle.

That said, though, we shouldn't take the gems with us, for the simple reason that there's really not that much room in our little black dress.

> Do we have a bag we can carry with us today?  We may come across several things!

I really don't feel safe leaving the gems here since we have no idea what happened.  First things first we need to deal with the oni and arrange an alternative payment.  Afterwards we need to talk to Deva K since we're paying her good money for protection so she needs to know that we got jacked.  If she's not willing to help then what are we paying her for?
