--- Quote ---MotK has a good number of different positions of administration. Acolytes, Janitors, Admins, Global Mods etc.
Some people might say that's more than is really needed. What do you think about all the positions?
--- End quote ---
Really there's only two major groups, staff, and the users. The various tags within the staff are mostly for separation of powers. Being a security minded person you really should only give as much access as someone needs to do their job, no more no less. After several experiences with rogue staff and users abusing powers, I've made sure that powers are limited to only those who need it. That and being a Navy brat means I have a natural love for ranks and divisions :V
It's not that I don't trust you guys or think your opinions don't matter, it's just strictly for security reasons. If you're a staff member, I weigh your opinion with equal weight, regardless if you have an admin tag or an acolyte tag. I don't get the last say even though I hold all the keys to the kingdom.
The janitor rank was created to allow users take responsibility for the maintenance of their community. The community doesn't just exist for the benefit of the staff, everyone owns a piece of it no matter if you're a newbie or a moderator. And I feel that when people are given ownership and the ability to make a difference, they take more pride in their community and it builds a better place for all of us. While not staff (and not afforded all the privileges and access along with that), they are also given their own special forum to directly raise issues in confidence. I value their insight as much as I value staff's, more eyes never hurts.
--- Quote from: Kogasa Tatara on April 06, 2011, 03:45:53 PM ---What got you interested in science, specifically the nuclear side of it?
--- End quote ---
My love with science has been a lifelong affair. Ever since I was little I was fascinated with the world around me. I was reading from encyclopedias about weather when I was in kindergarten and I was staring at the stars since as long as I can remember. I've wanted to be a meteorologist, an astronomer, a biochemist, an electrical engineer working at Intel, all sorts of different science/research jobs. I'm a tinkerer, I am not satisfied with it works just because, I need to know WHY and HOW something works. The universe is a fascinating place and the more I know about it the more I fall in love with it.
As for why I've settled on nuclear engineering, I've always had a soft spot for nuclear physics. I know I have gifts and talents, and I feel it's my duty to use everything I have to benefit society at large. Electricity is probably the single biggest discovery in human history, and is directly responsible for the massive leaps and bounds we've made in scientific development and quality of life.
The biggest crisis facing our generation is going to be power. Fossil fuels are going away, and even if they weren't they're extremely harmful to the environment. And so much suffering in this world is simply a problem of power. Hunger, thirst, disease, all of that can be solved if everyone had regular access to electricity and the technologies it brings along with it. And I feel nuclear power is currently the best solution we have to propel ourselves to the next stage in human history.
I'm still not 100% settled on it though, I'm also extremely fascinated in biochemistry and astrophysics but the big thing that's pushing me towards nuclear is the lack of talent and the unjust demonizing it has been getting. The recent antinuclear trend especially has me determined to prove people wrong about it.
--- Quote ---Was it related to your interest in computers?
--- End quote ---
I built my first computer when I was 5, and I was banging on a keyboard in my highchair before I could talk. My love affair was sparked by my dad mostly. He was an electronics tech in the Navy, and I of course grew up in that world. To me though computers have always been a hobby. Doing programming or computer work as a job sucks the fun out of it for me, plus I feel it's a waste of my talents to be writing scripts instead of mixing chemicals and discovering cures. That's why you couldn't pay me to do this gig (although money would be appreciated :ohdear:)
--- Quote ---What would it take to get you to leave your current state?
--- End quote ---
I have to move in 2 months and I have no intention to stick around here. Part of me does want to stay here because it is where my extended family is and I did want to graduate from Ohio State but I think the minuses far outweigh the positives. Where I want to go I have no clue though. I like the conveniences urban life brings but at the same time I want to be somewhere where I can see nature and stare at the stars at night. My dream home would have to be a wooded area in the pacific northwest, with a giant oak tree in my front yard on a hill so I can sit in shade and read in the summer.
--- Quote ---Do you like Skyline chili?

Love it. 3-way is the best, as well as their cheese coneys.

--- End quote ---
The move from Pyoko to PPIrC was probably the worst this community has faced and I still don't think we've fully healed. A lot of people I loved and respected got caught up and some very ugly things came out of it. It was never really truly resolved, we kind of just decided to go our separate ways and try to move on. It definitely shaped how I treated this community and the position I gained in the process.

How come you like showing your Gungnir to little kids?
--- Quote ---And now a real mean tricky question: In terms of self confidence, moral and mental achievements online, do you think you are doing a good job as an admin of Motk and how did you thought about this before?
--- End quote ---
To be honest, I'm extremely pessimistic when it comes to viewing myself. While I don't think I'm the worst person ever, I definitely think there's a lot of things I've screwed up on, and a lot of things I could have done better, and a lot of things I shouldn't have done at all. And for the longest time, I never really thought I deserved this position. I was more than willing to donate my time and effort to maintain the inner technical workings of the community, but I never felt I had the right to "lead" the community. But then I realized that without a leader I did more damage to this community than I supposedly helped by not being one and now I'm trying to make up for that.

Probably the oldest member ever still around in MotK, although he's super busy and hardly talks anymore. Huge EFZ fan (his avatar was pixel art of Akiko jam for the longest time).
