Yeaaaaah Marisa is pretty much the make- or- break factor in a no bombs 1cc. Now you kind of now what I went through.  :V
The most important thing to remember is WHATEVER YOU DO, DO NOT kill the orbs when she's in the middle of doing an attack as she will IMMEDIATELY fire a new wave and they will overlap to form a wave of death.

This rarely happened, but yeah. Once I did it and she used an attack where she flooded the screen with star bullets I had never seen to date. The real turning point though was when I discovered that which direction she swoops down is dependent on which side of her you're on. If you know that, you can start glitching up the fight and having her move entirely off-screen. :V

Also, that Next thing I tried ended up just being a coincidence. :derp: You're free to try it, but don't expect anything.

EDIT: Speaking of SoEW Marisa, I noticed during the long painful time last night that Marisa's Orreries Suns are decorated with various religious symbols. One has the cross, one the star of David, one the oil lamp, and one the mighty cigarrete puff. What was up with ZUN and random religious symbolism back then?

This feels like an accomplishment, anyway. Playing GFW Extra, something I've only done on occasion since first clearing it last August. Decided to hell with the few deaths during the stage portion, I'll fight Marisa anyway. And I made it all the way to her survival. Aside from those extra deaths keeping me on edge, I've lost my "ability" to bomb in this game (different controls require different fingers for it), and I'm fresh off pulling an all-nighter. Getting to her survival is pretty good considering my current status.

Kaguya fight was horrid. Bombed the opener and went downhill from there. Of course, that was also my first time reaching Kaguya on normal. :p

After I cleared it myself I felt on top of the world. Actually, I was convulsing in maniacal laughter in the corner of the room in the fetal position, but whatev.
Which begs the question of, on a scale of 1 to "Clearing GFW Extra Blindfolded" how high does clearing PH ring?

If my experience was like everyone else's, clearing phantasm is the crowning achievement of a novice player, shortly followed by the realization that they are now an intermediate player and have a whole lot more difficult things ahead of them that make phantasm look easy. Still, the first time you pull it off it's a wonderful achievement.

I really wanted to screenshot Yumemi exploding instead but that victory was so unexpected I just threw my hands in the air.

2 deaths on Chiyuri. 1 death on loldodgehax Yumemi. Stupid dodge into another stupid dodge put the game at 3::5 early. Somehow got it to 1/2::1/2 with no bombs and low guage. She launches a boss, I start dodging when the screen shakes. I stare dumbfounded and then you know the rest.

That brings my Normal count to 4!

I feel so much better today. I went through UFO Stage 6 Lunatic ND2B up until Byakuren's final, where of course I died several times. This wasn't the first time I did this, but I was so much more in the zone this time than I normally am. I credit this to having one of the most refreshing nights of sleep I've had in a long time.

Yeah baby! And with MarisaA too, which makes this even better. For some reason I had a real good feeling about this one once I reached Alice, and I just took it from there.

Got to boss Youmu without using continues on PCB hard. I don't see it as an achievement though...
Rather, I'm seeing it as a sign of progress.

Hopefully I'll be able to 1cc something on lunatic before TH13 comes out.

UFO Normal 1cc complete. SanaeB. 175m (very crappy score)

Had some stupid deaths, mostly to Murasa and stage 5. Luckily I stopped playing dangerously (so much) by the time I reached Shou and actually started bombing. Lotsa practice with stage 5 and 6 (with ReimuB on 6) gave me good ideas on which attacks I suck on. Still died twice with bombs on Byakuren on Devil's Recital and St Nick's Air Scroll (or St. something. I don't remember the name) because I thought I could capture them. Luckily Flying Fantastica was so much easier for a straight forward shot type than it is for ReimuB.

I want my Konngara thumbs up now.

Figured out how to run SA at 75 fps (set input latency to fast and use the vpatch option as usual) and got captures of all SA lunatic cards on stages 1-5, counting stage 4 with ReimuA. Utsuho is kind of beyond my skill at the moment though; I will never understand people who find Orin a harder boss than her.

Added on Marisa and Sakuya Lunatic 1ccs to the PoFV list.  It was a miracle that I was able to pull it off with Sakuya, since I somehow pulled off a first round clear against Medicine which gave me the lives I needed (death on Stage 6 and 8, three deaths on Shiki for the zero-stock clear).  I found her to be the worst character I've used so far.  Her focus field has an obscene range which means you'll be triggering spirits all over the place, and combined with her "ability" that triggered spirits stay in place, I found it happening far too often that I'd trigger a spirit as it's about to leave the bottom of the field, unable to kill it, and it then shoots at me from below or the side, which is not helpful with all the chaos that's constantly going on in PoFV.  I also found my scoring with her to be terrible for reasons I don't understand, though I still managed the 50m extend and never expect the 70m extend, so that wasn't as big of a deal.

Utsuho is kind of beyond my skill at the moment though; I will never understand people who find Orin a harder boss than her.

I think it's less that Orin is honestly harder and more that Orin's difficulty comes from the kind of tricky stuff that makes Extra bosses hard.  She's really confusing to the first-time player, leaving that first impression that she's the hardest boss ever, and still being confusing afterwards if you don't know enough about the mechanics to figure out the tricks.  First time you run into Possessed Fairy, you don't know about selectively firing to avoid getting pellet spammed, or the proper way to herd the fairies around to best avoid them.  Noncard 2, you don't learn, probably until you watch a replay of someone else doing it, that it's infinitely easier to shotgun it rather than to hug the bottom like a newb.  Noncard 3 just looks ridiculous.  Ghost Wheels has said ghost wheels coming out of nowhere and owning you until you understand the aiming pattern (or at least understand to keep an eye out and read for it).  Demon's Revival is "what is circling?" to the newb who hugs the bottom.  Contrast Utsuho whose repertoire mostly consists of "dodge this", and the two trick attacks are far easier to explain and understand than Orin's attacks ("hug the bottom like a newb" for Noncard 3, and "sit on this line and move left and right" for Ten Evil Stars).

Managed to make a four-stage-long survival-based UFO chain in UFO Hard. Think I might go all the way and make a replay with a six-stage chain...might have to do that in Normal, though, still can't quite reach Byakuren on Hard.

Gave PCB lunatic a go. Captured all Prismriver sisters team spellcards, but bombed the opener and did a deliberate border break on Merlin's card. Game over on Yuyuko's third non-spell.
I've never been able to properly read these lunatic patterns before. Practicing SA on easy must have boosted my skills.

Been almost nine months since I gave this a try, and it was still much better than my first 1cc. I was hovering somewhere around max lives from Alice all the way to Yuyuko, where a few stupid deaths brought me back down. Finished with 4 extra lives.

I found (Sakuya) to be the worst character I've used so far.

spam lvl1s all the time, that's all there is to it. triggering spirits everywhere is a good thing, her scope lets you "sweep" most of the screen with a quick spin and clear bullets in all directions with a well-placed lvl1 - good for getting rid of stuff at the top of the screen and for creating safe paths to the sides. and you can trap the AI with her lvl2, it's not a guaranteed hit but it does work rather often if you can use it at the right moment. probably my favourite PoFV character these days, not as good as reimu or shiki which verge on broken but a lot more interesting to play with.
