Danmakufu crashing

Asked about this on another forum and they directed me here since apparently people here are more familiar with Danmakufu.  So here goes!

I currently have my non-unicode programs set to run in Japanese, I am running it as an administrator, etc.  Regardless, it still crashes when I try to select anything other than directory (unless I remove the scripts from my script folder).  Tried using AppLocale too, but that makes it crash before the menu even appears, as you can see in this pic:

I've Googled around a bit on the subject and found a few people with the same problem, but no solutions at all.  Running XP too if that helps at all.  Big thanks to anyone that can help me on this.

Might be a problem with your script index. Try deleting script_index.dat and restart danmakufu.

this reminds me of when i couldn't play any scripts that had free choice of characters.
it turns out that there were some character scripts had Japanese in them.
and I don't have the Japanese locale

That image has no descriptive info on the actual crash itself.  If you click the "click here" link on that popup, it should tell you exactly what happened (even if it's techno-gibberish dumped by Windows).  If you post the contents of that info, we might have a better idea what's going wrong with Danmakufu.

Not entirely sure what's going on here.  Maybe someone else who knows better can gleam something from this?  Wish I could help, sorry.  =/
