Luna Child...baka?
« on: August 22, 2010, 09:45:22 PM »
Okay, I think I should shut my mouth. But I can't. Why don't you tell me your thoughts...is Luna Child an idiot? I can't see her that way. Speechless, I can accept. Maybe shy. But idiot? Where the hell did that come from? In the manga, she seemed even smarter than Sunny Milk. Or that's what I think ( I read it a while ago, so...)
Sunny Milk is impulsive. Star is really smart. But I don't think that Luna is a nine...I just can't see her that way...
Tell me, can you?

Oh. Probably because

Out of the three fairies, she might be the dumbest one, or maybe she just relies too much in her ability to make sound vanish that she's often the only one who fails to escape.

"I often see her falling down in the middle of the road. She's kinda dull." (West side woodcutter.)

"Even though she could walk without sound, she was tip-toeing." (Anonymous)
One of the characteristics of dumbness.

She isn't very practical when it comes to the use of her ability, but she tends to abuse it often. Fairies in general aren't that smart. That's probably why.

I find this hilarious for some reason.

Anyway, it's pretty much because she relies on her power for everything, even if she doesn't need to or if it gives her away.

I'm more interested in how Sunnymilk is allegedly the smartest of the three.  Star seems considerably smarter most of the time.

Nah, Sunny just have the spirit of a leader. She has great imagination, though. Star is the smartest. Everytime they get busted, Star finds a way to escape.
I think that Luna is kind of "disconnected" from the world...or, spaced out, or however you want to call it...Partially because of her power...

She got knocked up in a world where we know of two humanoid males and we've never seen either of them as a companion to her.

I'd say that's pretty dumb.

I suppose that's the one thing I like most about The Three Fairy stories I've read so far, is that these fairies aren't as super dense as one could think from reading stuff like Akyu's writings about them.

Yes, I also like that. Luna is my favourite fairy (and I like her personality and other stuff), so, when I found out about Akyu's description of her, I...to put it simply, my face was wtf'd

I think this is pretty much the same case with Cirno, or any fairy really. It's not that she's dumb it's that she's childish and lacks common sense, like all fairies. However, calling her an idiot is easier than typing 'she lacks common sense' and in some cases funnier, so that's what people go with. It gets exaggerated in fandom, sure, but it's really a matter of common sense.

No freakin' idea, just as confused as you are.

And... I'd /guess/ so... maybe? I mean, like, if a fairy grew out of what-appears-to-be prepubescence, then they could. ... maybe?

It makes sense from a (normal) biological standpoint, but this is Gensokyo, so logic goes right out the window.

I'm not sure. PM states that the size of fairies ranges from doll size to ten year old child size, and I don't think a child's body is capable of bearing a child. On the other hand, maybe fairies DO get grown up bodies, but they're just midgets. They wouldn't be much taller than children. Then fairies could conceive...maybe...

Or fairies just poof into existence instead of being birthed....

I think - for sanity's sake - we may want to go with this one...

But that's completely off-topic! (I think...) My guess is, because I've yet to read any of the Three Fairies manga or the translated dialogue from 12.8, this:

Star's likely the most reasonably intelligent one. Book knowledge and common sense, here.

Sunny's probably more along the lines of Cirno: overconfident as hell and likely to rush into things.

Luna... eh... I'm just gonna echo what other people've said. Not /stupid/, but not horribly bright and relies on her power too much. (because the sudden/complete lack of noise totally gives her away)

Edit: Basing my admittedly lame assumptions on what I've read about them on TVTropes and the wiki.

Your assumptions are right, don't worry xD
Fairies are natural beings...Were they created alongside nature? Who knows...

Woo I'm correct!

Also, that's a good point. Someone, somewhere, threw out the theory that a fairy is directly tied to its natural counterpart (Cirno and ice, for instance) and that they'd disappear if that counterpart would 'end,' if you will.

Nthing wanting to know what this is all about.
