Yeah, I noticed this while exploring a giant cave system with Raibys. We would find a branch in the cave, then split up. 5 minutes later one of us would say "wow, this is awesome, come look at it", and the other person would start digging straight towards the nametag of the other person, but then discover another long cave halfway there. Or we'd stay together and take one branch, then reach a dead-end, dig around a bit, find another cave, follow it... then discover that was the other branch we missed. It's so much fun!
Exactly!
My knowledge of SMP is the following:
It exists. :V
Alright! Then let's find you a server!
Edit: I found one with the following description.
"This is a dedicated server 24/7 we have the following mods installed Hey0, Runecraft, borderlands plugin, Minecart Mania Cartographed map at [edited out] with live player positions our own dedicated website with forums [edited out] no need to register or prove your right to build, it is a free build map with the following rules. No item spawn, no duping blocks, no griefing, no racism, Respect the staff. Enjoi"
At first I was like, "Oh, this might be good- a few plugins to show Yuyuko, but not so many that it'll be overwhelming." Then I saw that last rule. As a rule of thumb, if you're ever thinking about joining a server and see a rule like that- respect the staff/admins/OPs/mods/server owner- then don't bother joining. For one thing, if they're so thoroughly used to never receiving respect that they have to make a
rule out of it on a server they own, then chances are that they don't deserve respect in the first place. Maybe they go out of their way to be rude or condescending towards people; who knows. Furthermore, they only took the time to make a rule out of respecting the
staff; they never said a word about respecting your fellow builders and newcomers. The first thing that popped into the server owner's mind when they typed that was, "I want respect," not, "I want everyone to respect one another." There's a distinct difference between the two. From this one thing alone, it's safe to assume that you're not going to have as good a time on this server as you could another, due largely in part to the community of the server itself. Remember: This isn't the only server in existence. You're not obliged to play on it. There are hundreds of others out there, so if you think you can find a better one with just a little searching, then by all means, search away! I can't stress that enough. Now, let's see about another one... Ah, this one might be alright!
"This is [edited out] server. We make use of many mods including Runecraft and Towny. Feel free to check our website or the forum post for more info on our server. Currently our server is 30 slots."
I'll edit this post again as soon as I try it out for myself, to get a better idea of what it's like.
Alright, nevermind. Again, a "Respect the admins and moderators." rule. Nothing about respecting
everyone. Even that would be a silly rule, though- just not
as silly. Again, I normally don't care one way or another about giving or receiving respect. If I like you, then I probably respect you. Even if I don't like you, there's a chance I still might respect you for something. By default, I like just about everyone anyway, so that shouldn't even be an issue. As for receiving it, it would be difficult for me to care even less about that than I already do. But when I see a rule like, "Respect [only a specific kind of person]," all it gives me is a clear image that the server is run by children. That rarely ends well. You're bound to see things like power abuse on servers like those; really, it's only a matter of time. Well, on to the next server.
Meh~.. I'm almost always against servers with economy-related plugins after seeing how easy it is to exploit the most popular one, iConomy, but since it doesn't actually say the name of ~*~~*~~*~the economy~*~~*~~*~ plugin they're using, I may as well give this one a try.
"Hey0mod with many usefull plugins. Medieval MC server, With many nice features such as spell, economy system and much more check out our forum thread for more infomation."
Well, I guess that's that. I didn't pay to play Minecraft to have my creativity- what little I have, dohoho- restricted. I don't even have to explain why being told, "You can only build in these tiny areas of OUR choosing in this [almost] infinitely generated game," makes for a terrible, TERRIBLE server to play on. Now for the next one.
Oh, this one might be good!
"A server with good american and german communities, clans with unique styles and abilities, excellent plugins for player use (craftbook, chat channels, movecraft, and more), supporting optional clan based pvp combat and survival gameplay."
Yep, it's good. Nicely built area around spawn, only two other people on, one builder, one admin- and that's nice, I like smaller communities; you feel less like a random number in a crowd, and more like a part of the community- but I do have one complaint. All the areas I've found are well built. And I mean REALLY well built, on a large scale. This server's probably been around for at least a month. When it comes to older servers like these, I always feel odd trying to join, like I'm the "new guy," and when I try building anything, that it'll be judged, or it isn't good enough compared to other things I've seen on the server, so I usually avoid ones like these. Still, if you don't mind those things, then you'll probably enjoy playing on this server!
After you sign on here and reply, we'll see what to do from there~.
It's fun playing in my friend's server, except those annoying monsters at night. I died three times in the hands of creepers. :U
Ahh, you might wanna ask them to install a plugin like Cuboid or WorldGuard that's capable of disabling creeper explosions.
