>Ain't our fault little punk don't study.

>"Bah, who are all these people?"

>"Fifth question: When did Kyoto serve as the capital?"

>"Uh.... 1837!" she answers defiantly.

>"Technically correct, but I was looking for a range of dates. We'll give you half credit."

>Cirno beams and make a triumphant motion with her arm. "Y'see?"

>If she looks like she's about to try something funny, give her a headbutt.

>She's ranged between smug, irritated, concentrated, and confused during most of this, but she doesn't seem ready to blast you just yet, anyway. You prepare to dish out a swift cranial reprisal if she tries anything.

>"Sixth Question: Why was the capital moved to Kyoto in the first place?"

>"Why does anyone move anywhere? Old place was too hot."

>"Ha, I'm not worried! I'm sure you're all out of the trick ones, now."

>"Question seven: What conflict escalated into the Ōnin War?

>"The Oni War? Aren't they always fighting, anyway? Ha, I get it! This is another trick question. It was probably a bar brawl or something."

>"Bah, who wants to know boring stuff like that, anyway?" Cirno does her best to look indifferent.

>Despair over the state of historical knowledge in kids these days.

>You indulge yourself in a sigh about the state of general eduction around here. It doesn't help that Cirno doesn't seem to care, either. Where are these people's priorities?

>"Huh. Well, I was actually tryin' to sleep, when it happened. Woke up to this giant shattering noise. There was this crazy purple light coming up from the bottom of the lake. Felt like even the air was shakin'. After a few minutes, it just stopped, and there was this huge whirlpool, and the water just started going down. Don't know much else than that. No one else would tell me a bloody thing, even when I tried to freeze them."

>She chews this over thoughtfully. "Hey, I hadn't thought about that! Maybe you're not so dumb after all."
>"Hey, don't call the quiz lady dumb!" Rumia interjects.
>"I said she WASN'T dumb, loudmouth. Geeze..."

>Is this, to our knowledge, supposed to be a major faerie hangout, or just Cirno's haunt?

>It does have a reputation as a bit of a faerie haunt, but they come and go as they please. You don't see any others at the moment, but they might be off causing trouble elsewhere, or sleeping. Cirno supposedly has a certain degree of authority among the faeries, but you're not sure how much that counts for with such a spastic and fickle bunch.

>"I might, actually. I haven't heard much of what's been going on at the lake for a while, and rumors are somewhere to start in order to find out."

>"Eh, just faerie junk. They're easily amused. Not like me."

>Swimming skill? Else, mental note to see about recruiting a kappa.

>You're a competent enough swimmer, but you still can't breath underwater. It might be hard to get down far enough to see anything useful. And it would probably be very cold. Probably shouldn't be a problem for a kappa, though.

>Given the exodus to Kanako's shrine and Suwako's powers over creating earth... could they? Would they?

>Could they? Well, Suwako probably COULD, at any rate. As for whether she WOULD, you really can't be sure. She was pretty friendly and non-interventionist in your own timeline, but who knows what else might have changed here. You make a note to look into the possibility, though.

>How close are we to the mansion now?

>It's probably about 15 minutes or so away, at this point. You've covered most of the distance between it and the village.
