It's not a bad endpoint, but we need to work toward.

>"I might be able to do something for you. Because...alright, if you're telling the truth, they're going too far."
>Ponder the legal process, here, as we know it.
>Wait, the kappa have a legal process? You don't really have much knowledge of it, because kappa crime is almost unheard of. Given the way she's been taken in, though, it's likely to be draconian. She'll get a trial, and summarily an execution. Salem flashes in your mind for an instant. You can't imagine she would receive anything along the lines of a defense attorney, either. You could try taking control of that and doing something about your rather horrendous court record, or you could try doing things the hard way and busting her out here and now (but then getting her out of Kuromizu alive is another matter).

> Could the belt be used for an escape?
> Unfortunately, Salem was the only time you've ever seen the inside of a courtroom. So yeah, you're on a 0% win record. Things can only get better from here, though!
> Potentially, but from your experience with it the machine will take you to a random place in time/space, and then take you back where you started from. In other words, all it will let you do is go to a world where you're totally out of place, which really isn't that much of an escape unless you somehow get REEEEEEEEEEALLY lucky and end up today and just outside of your shack. That will probably never happen, though, so it's kinda a no-go.

>On the other hand, the belt might make a possible way to escape pursuers, if pressed. Sure, you pop back in the same place, but after some time has passed, they're unlikely to be looking at the exact spot you disappeared from when you came back.

>Who would be the person to talk to about what's likely to happen to the prisoner? Even if it's a mock trial, someone must be calling the shots.

> There's one exit, and Sanna and Janna are guarding it. They're still armed, so your odds are slim at best.

> This seems slightly more viable, though you still have the problem of getting Kai out of the tank first.
> The police force is pretty stretched here. Most likely, the guards outside will be in charge of the trial as well, and it'll be done in the next few hours for the sake of haste. They're the two to talk to.

>"She's a human, going outta her way to come here. If that's not spying, I dunno what is."
"Yeah, we caught her at the entrance and gave her the usual 'name and business' deal. Then she just burst away and ran for the Electric Fountain. Honestly she should count herself lucky we didn't shoot her right then."
"You'd almost think she was scared of those guns and ran for her life. Human spies really don't have a lot of nerve, do they?"

>That seems like enough to stun them momentarily. But eventually, Janna pulls herself back into phase.
"Well, that may be true. But what do we stand to lose if we trust her, and then she's really a spy? She could steal our technology, sabotage the Electric Fountain, bring Kuromizu to its knees! Is that worth it?!"
"Yeah! We need to play it safe around here! We totally aren't just desperate to actually prosecute a criminal for a change!"
"...Sanna, stop talking."
"Aww..."
This is getting awkward. You have one last resort you can turn to, but you reeeeeally don't want to go for that unless every other option is out the window. Do you try talking to them more, start on a Dramatic Escape (TM), or use the Last Resort?

"Hey! My teeth are fine, thank you very much!"
"Sanna, she just means have her as a slave."
"Oh. Well, wouldn't that put her in dangerous reach of our technology anyway? She'd have to be watched 24/7, and some unlucky master would have to take the blame if she went wild..."

Janna grins.

"Yeah, we can't do that! Sorry, but she's gotta go!"

You were afraid of this. You can still force the issue with that one fact you'd rather keep quiet about, or you can do your damnedest to just screw the system and break Kai out...

"We'd have been more willing to listen if her first action wasn't to run straight for the Electric Fountain. Seriously, how much guts does it take to say your name and business? While, uh, you have two guns pointed at your head. That doesn't change anything!"
"Embarrassment? What embarrassment? It's not like it's anything we haven't seen before. Unless you go and make her work at The Wave, but...the guys there creep me out as well. Even spies don't deserve the sorta treatment they'd give her..."

They ARE the superiors.
