>Open the door from the side, so that we're not directly exposed by doing so
>Take a quick look in the hallway for people
>If the coast is clear, head out into the hallway

>You open the door from the side, the others keeping to the side with you.
>You've never really heard gunfire in your life, but you're pretty sure this is what a whole lot of it sounds like. Parsee screams; and you can barely hear her over the noise!

>How good are our abilities maintain an intense heat in a small, confined area without leakage?
>Could we effectively hold a wall of fusion energy in front of us, kind of like a shield? Bullets should melt pretty quickly if they come into contact with temperatures like what we can put out.

>Gesture for Ace and Parsee to go back downstairs
>Shoot some covering fire into the corridor. Nothing too destructive, but enough to dissuade them from storming the door for a moment.
>Then leap over the railing and float to a position a flight or two of stairs down, such that the stairs themselves are in the way of any fire, if the soldiers run in
>While in this position, quickly shape the shield

>Then leap over the railing and float to a position a flight or two of stairs down, such that the stairs themselves are in the way of any fire, if the soldiers run in
>While in this position, quickly shape the shield

>You gesture for Parsee and Ace to go back downstairs. Ace nods, while Parsee is still panicking. The hacker takes her by the arm, pushes her had down, and the both make their way downstairs quickly.
>"Head in!" shouts one of the guards, proving your anticipations correct.
>You lay down some covering fire, raising your hand to the air and creating another sphere, then letting rays of light radiate from it. Much of it just smacks into the walls around you uselessly. Three lines of fire make their way through the door, and you hear a few people cry out, as well as a few bodies hitting the floor.
>You then leap over the railing and float down a couple flies of stairs, rejoining the others.
>"What did you do!?" Parsee shouts, but you are too busy forming the shield. It takes a few seconds, but you manage to create a wall of energy in front of you. It's not easy to see through it, and you won't be able to try anything fancy and keep your concentration.

>You are not flying. Flying and keeping up the shield would be too much.

>"Yeah...I hope so," says Ace.
>No one answers your latter question. It is rather silly, given the circumstances.
>"What the hell is that!" shouts a voice as you draw close to the exit.

>Keep the shield between us and the door, and keep ourselves in front of Ace and Parsee

>Can we shoot danmaku THROUGH the shield? Energy projectiles shouldn't melt the same way that bullets would.

>You stay in front of your friends, and you block the door.
>You can fire through it. This won't do a thing against danmaku; you distinctly remember those needles on a spellcard that surrounded you with energy like this.

>You open a gap to look through. It seems they have cleared out. You can see about four guards laying on the ground.

>You think there were some bay windows in the engineering section, which is deeper inside.

> Ask Parsee anyway for a closer exit

>"There's just the front doors," says Parsee, "Unless they hid some loading dock or something. I don't think they did, but I didn't get a full view of the building."

>Head towards the section with these windows, keeping an eye out for any other soldiers. Check every corner before you turn it.
>If the first group of guards is still within line of sight, keep the shield between you and them until you're out of sight again

>You make your way toward the engineering section. Thankfully, your attackers have fallen back far enough that you can't see them.
>You check around corners, but don't see anyone coming. You think they might have massed up all of their guards at that choke point. Still, you're fairly worried about them come from other angles.
>You reach the engineering section without difficultly. It is a huge, warehouse-style place covering multiple floors and giving you enough room to fly if you wanted. The floors are concrete and there is a lot of heavy machinery you cannot identify. There are several doors leading in and out of here. To the east, you can see the windows. The lights of many sirens are reflected in them. It is too large to determine all the obvious exits.

>You slip your off hand into the Rod. Inside, you can feel a sheath for each of your fingers to fit. It feels almost like a high quality glove, you can even move them freely.
>The crow makes a circuit around the room, and flies through you, giving off an exuberant cry. You feel it melt into your being. Your body feels warm, so warm. It's wonderful! You close your eyes, exulting in the warm welling within you. You're grinning like a fool, but you don't care. You feel it flowing into you, empowering you. You feel the warm in your mind. You can feel it!
>You are Reiuji Utsuho, the Subterranean Sun. You are the heir to Yatagarasu's power, and you have exceeded him. The world is wrong. It has changed. It has taken you from yourself, but no long. You remember everything clearly now. You remember the Palace of the Earth Spirits. You remember the Hell of Blazing Fires that you personally reignited. You remember the world above, where you aided the kappa. You remember the kappa, the tengu, the youkai. You remember Gensokyo as it should be. You remember the power. Oh yes.
>You have lived two lives. You have had two childhoods. You've had two different families with the same people, yet different people. It makes your head hurt just a little, trying to reconcile these.
>You are kneeling on the ground now. Your back hurts; two feathery wings flank you now. Dimly, you realize the back of your shirt is ruined. You feel strong again. Who can stop you now? What can they hope to do to you? You are Reiuji Utsuho, the Searing Divine Flame.
