So, my Deathsmiles Platinum Collection version (J-region naturally) already has normal MBL playable but not MBL 1.1. I made a Japanese Live account and I see two addons for purchase. One that says Mega Black Label and costs 1200 points and another that says Mega Black Label 1.1 and only costs 240. Can anyone confirm that I'll just buy that cheaper one? I only have 1400 Japanese points so if that doesn't work alone, I'm screwed.

If I recall, the other one is the full voice add-on or something.

So any ideas on what next week's game will be?

Also, during STGT, will our weekly scoreboards be the same thing or just weeks off?

May as well make it the same thing.

As for next week's game, I haven't decided yet.

The non-platinum version doesn't come with MBL at all, IIRC. The 1200 point DLC is MBL, and the 240 point DLC is MBL 1.1, which requires MBL beforehand (I think). The 240 one is the only thing you need with the platinum version to be able to play all modes. I finally got my DLC point code on the first day I was in Malta, predictably enough, so I haven't actually got it yet... sounds like it'll be a ton of fun though, if regular 1.1 was any indication. Also, 12 digit scores. :V

Memorization week:  Image Fight/R-type
Endurance test week:  Tatsujin Oh
Rage-inducing chaining week:  Battle Bakraid/Guwange/Mars Matrix

Just a suggestion, but maybe we could make the next few SotW's shorter than a week.  That way we could try out more kinds of different games in preparation, and it would encourage people to learn stuff quicker and not procrastinate (you know who you are :V)

Goddamn, I'm going to end up with 2 days to play like 3 or 4 seperate games aside from 12.8 before STGT starts. :colonveeplusalpha:

Also, it'd be pretty hilarious if our memorizer turned out to be X-Multiply.

Who doesn't like big numbers. You'll own my crappy MBL 1.1 score due to actually being able to milk stages longer in Japanese version.

Okay, thanks for the help. I'm now downloading the 240pt one.

Also, I just casually 1cc'd the normal Arcade mode. :V Score was of course pathetic (69M). I even made the stupid mistake of panicbombing Jitterbug when he was nearly dead and thus missed the life refill. Luckily the 4/0 I still had was enough for Tyrannosatan (Best. Bossname. Ever.). I like it how the game let's you just do it all wimpy if you want but if you want to actually do well you have to work for it.

Sorry for double post (since it's a way to bump up this thread as well)
Trailer for DFK iPhone is out. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lm9cOiydk3w&feature=player_embedded

ahahaha some of the new BGMs for iPhone Mode are so cute, but it does not fit the theme of the game at all.

Also, a list of changes to the iPhone DDP games can be found here. http://caveworlden.wordpress.com/2010/08/09/54/ Changes that stand out to me are

-New music
-Difficulty levels
-Customizable practice mode

Still, ISO 360 port.

I went to Akihabara and purchased Ketsui. I haven't got myself a japanese 360 yet but i'll do that later on. Formless just pointed out to me that i should get Ketsui right away as it will be very expensive to import compared to just buying it on site. They also had ESP.Galuda 2 and Death Smiles 2 but they don't interest me.

I also went to the arcades and tried out Dai-Fukkatsu. It was a fun game even though the arcade stick was a pain in the ass. Except for those god forsaken laser devices in stage 5. Died en masse to those.

Eh, I like the second loop format myself, it gives you a nice 'score on the first loop, survive on the second loop' thing to work with. It's mostly an arcade tradition though - if you prove that the game is too easy for you, it treats you to a much harder version with extra stuff. :3

Honestly, I'd probably have spent more time in Ultra than I have yet if it was an extra loop after Original or something. :V
Spoiler:
This is mostly because God Mode is more fun.

That's of course one way to look at it. I just like it better when i can go straight to the point. Especially if the game is in fact too easy. Why would it be necessary to play through it all the way just to get to the hard stuff?

If you're willing to give horizontals a shot then you might also want to consider picking up Deathsmiles while you're there. You could try it out in an arcade first if you're unsure, if you can find one that has it. The Platinum edition shouldn't be as expensive as Futari and Ketsui (at least online it isn't).

Well, when you're going for loops it's more like a single long game than one easy game with another harder game afterward. There's usually a steady difficulty curve i.e. 2-1 will be a little harder or similar to the last stage on the first loop, and then 2-2 will be a little harder again, etc, so it feels like a pretty natural continuation of the game. Also, certain scoring systems (such as the Pachis' max bomb bonus) benefit hugely from a longer game, as it boosts the scoring potential by quite a lot. Keeping the max bomb bonus a decent way into the second loop in DDP will probably net you a few hundred million points. :P
Let's fight.

Actually, Ketsui on Amazon has dropped to about half of its actual price, but considering taxes, shipping fee and shipping issues, you'd better off purchase it straight from Japan :V

Dai-Fukkatsu
Very nice. If you get to stay through the 19th, make sure to play sum Akai Katana as well :3

Most shmups nowadays get much much harder the higher you try to play them for score, due to the more complex movements you're made to perform and greatly reduced margin for error.  Unless you're some kind of godlike superplayer who can no-miss/no-bomb up all the way to Hibachi, you're sure to find plenty of ways to challenge yourself during the first loop.

That is, of course, if you're interested in scorerunning. :3

I also did this yesterday, minus the points. Now I only need to find DOJ Black Label somewhere. It seems to be out of stock wherever I look.

Get it off eBay, it's not in print any more. Terrible menus and broken replays and such aside, it's still worth getting as DOJBL itself plays perfectly, and it's even better than the already awesome regular game. More hypers, more rank, more chains, more speed, more fun. :V Also, a not-completely-retarded loop system is a plus.

I'm thinking of streaming again, but I'm not sure about the best date to do it (in order to accommodate everyone around here).
I'm also settings goals for myself that I can actually try to attempt (45-60s to attempt each goal, if it isn't achieved, I'll move on to the next one) for the duration of the stream.
1. Futari BL - God Mode 1CC
2. ?????
3. ?????
4. ?????
5. ?????

You guys can fill those blanks for me. I also take retarded requests for lulz.

3. Some Goowang
4. Some Deathsmiles II / Any Toehoe
5. Dai Ou Jou Arrange / Deathsmiles.

I should make a seperate list for the "retarded requests" section.
1. 1CC DDP (no-vert)
2.
3.
4.
5.

I'm down for the 14th if everyone else is lolololol.
