Reached stage 5 in Galuda only using Overheat mode. Maybe I should go for the 1cc. :V Last attack looks like it'll be a bitch like this, though, and I need to stop using the expensive autobomb.
Let's fight.

Akai Katana's out on the 19th of August, apparently. \o/ Also a few small screenshots that look pretty sweet. People have mentioned that judging from the text it's somewhere between Progear and DFK (take that as you will; I have no idea what it says myself :V).

Set up the Varth board. Though I probably wouldn't be submitting to it anyway.

Also, how much harder is 1.5 original and Maniac with Reco when compared to using Palm?

In fact I just did! I checked Play-Asia and apparently they already had some Asia versions in stock even though it used to say they were coming in august. Now I'm just afraid that I will suck horribly with the controller. I remember when I showed DDP to my friend who had some MAME thingie installed on his modded old Xbox and I needed something like 5 credits to clear it with the controller.

It takes a little while to get used to it, but after you do it becomes just as nice as a keyboard if not better (IMO, anyway). Of course, this can be helped along a lot by sticking some friction tape over the pad; it removes all the slippiness and makes it nice and tight.

I pretty much gave up playing the PS2 CAVE games because of the controller. So in preparation for the eventual 360 I went and ordered a stick. It has been sitting in its shipping box for more than half a year. :V

Yeah, the PS2 pad is pretty horrible. It's pretty much the main thing keeping me from going for Mushi Maniac; Original was difficult enough with all the slip-ups. :V

Seems all the Galuda practice has upped my Galuda2 game a bit. Tried it for the first time in months and my high score jumped from 45mil to 78mil, reaching the final boss despite missing the hidden extend due to a stupid bomb after flailing all over the place. :V As with the first Galuda though, the final boss seems by far the most difficult part of the game; the main difference is that the rest of Galuda2 is also really hard.

I didn't used to like it much, but now it feels like Galuda and Dai-Ou-Jou in a blender, i.e. awesome. It's really grown on me. \o/ I still don't really know when and where I should be using Kakusei or Zetsushikai, so once I figure that out 100m doesn't seem too far off.

Spoiler:
Also I tried Arrange again and I have no idea how I should be doing things ;_;
Let's fight.

If you have a reasonably fast PC you can emulate Mushi and DOJ perfectly smoothly. If there is any input lag then it's minimal enough so that it doesn't bother me at all. Doing that also let's you use savestates to skip the super annoying 5 minute stage practice load times. For some reason Espgaluda is still a bit sluggish at some parts.

I tried Mushihime-sama on an emulator last year. I felt much more confident with the keyboard and did much better than I normally do when playing it on the PS2. Unfortunately the input lag was too noticeable so I never really kept up with it. My computer should have no problems running the game at full speed, so there were probably some settings that weren't tweaked right.

After a few attempts in practice I can safely say that Galuda2's boss is an absolute bitch to fight. At this rate I'm going to need to get there with three or four lives to 1cc. :colonveeplusalpha:

As for the emulator; the keyboard is a lot nicer than the PS2 pad, but the input lag and occasional stuttering from the emulator really threw me off, so the PS2 is still better for me in that regard. Maybe my PC is just outdated or something. :V
Let's fight.

That reminds me, Mayflash has a line of products, called Max Shooter,  that allows you to use keyboards as controllers for the 360 and PS3. They used to have one for the PS2, but I don't think they make it anymore. Someone on Shmups  Forum had the PS2 one and said that it had little to no input lag. I thought about buying it, at one point; I probably wouldn't have given up on the PS2 shmups if I did. :V

Played a credit of MBL 1.1.

The volcano boss is a pain in the ass on MBL 1.1. I always have to bomb the damn thing. Died to Wroon because its final attack sucks in MBL and MBL 1.1.

Fucked up Ice Palace boss due to suckiness and Windia being weak. Derped the Gorge. Game over with over 80 billion, should have at least made it to 100+ billion if I cleared that stage since the final stage is extremely easy, and I would have had a high counter if it weren't for the stupid screw ups.

I'll keep trying. MBL 1.1 is pretty fun to play outside of the Bavaria, Wroon, Ozier, and Devaria and Givaria.

Edit: The stage part obviously. Double Ex Jitterbug final, Tyrannosatan in general(though double ex makes it worse too) and Bloody Jitterbug mean I won't be 1ccing that mode any time soon(without Sakura and No Ex)

Edit:

About Deathsmiles NA

Cave wanted to fix some unintended slowdown in the original, which compromised the level of difficulty in those sections. They upgraded the production environment of the graphics engine, so the U.S. version handles the graphic assets better. They're now working as originally intended, so things will be more difficult.

This is still complete bullshit in terms of scoring. Even if they patched the Japanese version to make it faster, all old scores would still be there. Users of the PCB would have an unfair advantage as well over those of us forced to play with reduced slowdown. But it looks like there will be no patch that makes the slowdown accurate to the Japanese version.

Heh, I don't know if that means we should be happy we have the game as it should be, or upset that our scores will never be able to come close to the Japanese version's. :V

Yakouga 4 is slowly becoming one of my favorite doujin games. If H. R. Giger, CAVE, and Raizing had a child together, it would be this game. It just has it all: fast-paced rock music; large breakable bosses; converting screenfulls of bullets into gold ingots; satisfying explosions; and a weirdness-factor that hits you in the last two stages and makes you wonder if you're still playing the same game. The only downside is the NSFW content, which the author himself has said is completely irrelevant :V, but it can be turned off, for the most part.
Holy shit you're right, this game is nuts. Picture me mashing the hell out of the shot button by the end of stage 3 yelling WHAT THE FUUUUUUUUCK
This is pretty hilarious. :V

I'm just loving the character designs of Akai Katana so far. Can't wait to see more. Junya Inoue isn't doing the art for CAVE anymore, right?

Your mind will explode when you get to Stage 5.  It's not particularly difficult (easier than 4, in my opinion), but the game takes a quite unexpected turn. I don't want to ruin it. :V

This is pretty hilarious. :V

I don't know if I should laugh or wonder if they actually haven't considered making a 360 port of it until that tweet.  :ohdear:

Double Ex final bosses suck.

Jitterbug's final is 2DNB, so I only come out with whatever I went in with, assuming I capture the first part. Compared to Ex in 1.1(and maybe single Ex MBL 1.1 as well) where I had a chance to NDNB the fight, even with the extra phase.

Double Ex Tyrannosatan is a pain in the ass. 4-5 lives usually. I beat him with 3 deaths once.

I still haven't managed to off the TLB, even going into Double Ex Tyrannosatan with max lives(in training of course, I die on the Extras and usually once before that).

I could probably do it without Ex or even just 1 Ex.

As for MBL TLB, not even going to try it.

I do need to work on my scoring for normal Deathsmiles and normal 1.1, as well as normal MBL. With the increased speeds, level 3 seems more profitable for score than level 999 is in MBL 1.1 from what experience I have with the 2. I'm hoping that's more with how I'm playing than due to the reduced slowdowns reducing the worth of playing on 999. Being in second for US Ex on 1.1 just because I completely fucked up the last part of Extra by bombing 4 times then dying to the boss sucks when I should have no missed till Jitterbug and kicked the top score's ass.

At least some of the scores on the leaderboards for Ex on and Ex off on other modes are decent, but the 1.1 scores are pretty bad for the US leaderboards.
