The transformer is unnecessary; the easiest thing to do is to just buy a local 360 power cable. European ones work fine on J360s, that's how mine is running. :V

This isn't so straight-forward. As I said in my previous post, there are several different power supplies and you can't just use any with any model. There are at least 3 different types I know of: 203watt, 175watt and 150watt. The situation is complicated further still as some have different connectors. For eample, I have a friend who has launch machine which has a 203watt PSU, and I have a launch day Elite that was released years later which is also 203watt and the connectors are different (the connector that plugs into the console).

Apparently I also need to buy a socket adapter as the Asian 360 comes with a three-pin plug while everything around here is two-pin.
Although I'm not going to buy anything until at least August because it's all so freaking complicated and expensive.

Also, the US version having a lot of slowdowns removed makes things a lot harder than they should be. Hopefully that gets patched.

Play Arcade mode instead of 360 mode. The slowdown is still there.

It's known that the slowdown still isn't accurate in Arcade mode, which I do play because the slowdown helps with survival and scoring.

Not sure if you know that already, but you'll also probably have to buy a HDMI cable - I think the new console package doesn't come with one. I'd wait for the console to arrive to be sure, but make sure you add one HDMI cable to the estimated overall cost.

Then again so much stuff doesn't come with cables that you probably already knew that.

Tried an MBL 1.1 run with Sakura. game overed on Jitterbug's final. I entered the fight with 3 lives also, accidentally bombed once. Then I knew I was fucked when I saw what doing both Extra stages did to his final.

You can't use any with just any model, he's right; a Japanese supply won't work with a European 360. A European one will work with a Japanese 360, though, since the voltage is high enough. I know this for a fact since that's what mine is running on right now. :V The supplies won't fit into a 360 they won't work with, at any rate; the supplies have bits of plastic in the part that connects to the console corresponding with which systems they'll fit into. The Japanese one has quite a lot, hence it'll only fit into the Japanese console, while the European one has very few, meaning it'll work with most/all 360s. See this for reference. Having said that, I don't know how an Asian one compares to a Japanese one, so research is always a good thing.

And as for shmup news; today, I went into London and while there went to the Casino arcade I'd heard a few people mention on shmups forum. Couldn't access all of it since I didn't bring ID and there may have been more stuff in the 18+ section, but at any rate, I found the most unexpected thing there. They had Dodonpachi 2. @_@ Reached stage 5 on a credit which I thought was pretty good considering I hadn't practiced anything with an arcade stick, and creditfed the rest (stage 6 was brutal). Man, I wish this was on MAME, it was pretty awesome. The lack of score resets after continuing was kind of weird though. They also had Progear, but I died pretty fast since they'd set up the screen wrong or something and the sides were cut off. :V I will have to visit this place again sometime.
Let's fight.

The one thing I'll give DDP2 is its OST. I really like it for some reason. Still though, I wouldn't mind playing the game and seeing what it's like.

Is DDP stage 1-6 supposed to be that much easier than stage 1-5? I can 1DNB stage 1-6 reliably with both A-L and C-S (not counting the boss - that final phase is sneaky), and as soon as I figure out the best way to handle a certain spot I'll be able to perfect the stage part with consistency, but 1-5 murders me every time.

And goddamn why didn't I notice before how lenient the 1-5 boss fireball hitboxes are? Didn't really think it was possible to squeeze through after misreading miserably and ending up on the wrong side of an incoming large fireball, but it seems to be very safe. Now I can perfect the first five bosses reliably, but goddamnit if I had noticed that back when I was playing DDP more often I'd have hit the second loop ages ago.

Eh, I actually really enjoyed it, though it wasn't really DDP. It was pretty much like a whole different game, just re-using the name/graphics. :V The scoring system was a little like what I've heard DFK's is like; the chain bar is a lot more lenient than in DDP and losing it causes the chain to start rapidly dropping rather than going completely. Your ship types are A/B/C (which are about the same as in DDP) and within those you have bomb and charge types; bomb gives you five regular bombs and you can pick up extra bomb items for more, and charge has a bar which when full allows you a laserbomb, and is constantly refilling based on how much stuff you destroy and/or time (didn't really play enough to figure it out for sure). The boss fights were also pretty fun if a little long, especially the stage 5 and 6 bosses.

Hibachi as a piss-easy stage 1 boss was pretty hilarious though

btw sapz do you play any other games than shmups? seems like playing too many games on a regular basis doesn't make me excel at anything

on the shmups forum some people said they dedicated 1 year+ to a single game and nothing else :V

It's just shmups these days for the most part. I mean, occasionally I'll play other things if there's something in particular I'm interested in, but it's mostly just shmups. :V I guess it explains the regular improvement.

I can't imagine just playing a single game for a year though, although I guess that's how people end up with world records. :derp:

My American 360 just died. No more Deathsmiles NA and Raiden Fighters ACES for me.
Here's hoping my Japanese one doesn't meet the same fate.

1.57bil in 1.1, slowly improving. Probably shouldn't have gone for the Extra stage though, it completely destroyed me; 63k or so on the counter going in, about 13k going out. :V Also, I have no idea how to do that EX boss attack where the rocks fly everywhere.

That attack with the rocks is complete garbage. Bomb it without any regret.

Edit:

No Damage 1 bomb until Extra stage on 1.1. 70,000+ counter. Derped with 2 bombs in stock, derp with 2 bombs in stock, derp with 1 bomb in stock, death without bombs in stock on the boss, derp with bomb in stock. I didn't even beat my high score.  :fail:

It seems a lot of the difficulty is in certain attacks taking you by surprise; once you get parts down they stay down for the most part, by the looks of things.

Also, playing entirely in overheat mode is fun. :derp: Made it to stage 4 with 12.6 mil like that.

EDIT: Aaaand game over on the final boss' second-last life segment with a ton of bomb stock left. He has nine life segments split over three healthbars. :V

EDIT2: Died twice to the final attack. Goddamnit.

EDIT3: Aaaaaand there's the 1cc. :3 Went into the final boss with 5 lives, cleared with 2, finished with a nice 27.9 mil. That's another one off the list.

Yeah, I was planning on starting on that, with Galuda as my warm up. :P I imagine it'll take a lot longer, though - It's so much more difficult than the first one it's not even funny, especially that final attack. I'd probably put it around DOJ or Ketsui in difficulty, maybe a little easier (not really sure since I still haven't completely got the system down yet, so I have to consciously think about what I'm doing too often).

To keep the Cave chain going, here's a brand new Mushi Original 1cc:

I never gave Original much attention because Maniac seemed more exciting. Few days ago I decided I should try to 1cc it and it turned out to be really fun after all. The last stage is especially fun to play because you're bombarded with very fast aimed bullets pretty much nonstop so you really have to stay concentrated through the whole stage.

Before this I had only made it to the final boss twice with no extra lives but this particular run went superbly well. One stupid death early in st3 and that's about it. I entered st4 with 0 bombs and still managed to no-miss it somehow. I also beat the final boss with 1D2B.

Yakouga 4 is slowly becoming one of my favorite doujin games. If H. R. Giger, CAVE, and Raizing had a child together, it would be this game. It just has it all: fast-paced rock music; large breakable bosses; converting screenfulls of bullets into gold ingots; satisfying explosions; and a weirdness-factor that hits you in the last two stages and makes you wonder if you're still playing the same game. The only downside is the NSFW content, which the author himself has said is completely irrelevant :V, but it can be turned off, for the most part.

Just did All level 3 + Ex while not in Score Attack and Deathsmiles Virtuoso unlocked this time. I even finished with an extra life in stock.

My score was terrible though, but that kind of happens when you're not caring about score, plus dying in the second stage + dying twice on Extra.
