Also for Dratrion, make sure you reduce the side jet cannons to dragon heads before revealing the core, or you will get destroyed hard :V

Let's die 4 times on the Extra stage on 1.1, most of them with bombs in stock, then die on the castle stage with a bomb in stock.

That was my first time getting up to the Extra stage on level 3 in 1.1 with one life though. Could do without those damn collisions though. Also, I'm not sure whether I got into the No Miss version of the stage or not. Probably unless the game counts a half bar collision damage as a miss.

Even if it IS Cave, i'm happy to see actual shmups finally coming out in the west. The only thing else that 360 has is Triggerheart and Ikaruga. But... can anyone recommend a controller that doesn't suck or Xbox 360. Sure its a good controller for next gen games but there's bound to be a better alternative for shmups because this thing doesn't fucking work.

If it's in your price range, the HRAP EX-SE is pretty wonderful. That's a stick though.

To Sapz or anyone else that might still be on the search for a really good d-pad controller:
Apparently, Mad Catz made a "portable drum set" for Rock Band that comes with a NES-style controller. Many people on some of the bigger forums (neogaf) are saying the d-pad on it is fucking amazing.

I'm probably going to order it for myself and judge for myself, but I have pretty much high hopes for it. Of course, it's going to come with all the drum buttons and all that crap, but the selling point is that one d-pad controller that comes with it. Here's a link for anyone that wants to take a look at it. Here is a close shot of the controller only.

Oh yeah. Only problem: no triggers.

*actually has two of those controllers for the actual drums

The lack of triggers on that Rock Band controller are precisely why I've never tried using it as a shmup controller, since my bombing reflex is attached to having a right trigger.  There's an interesting alternative in the foot pedal though.  I've never used it for bombing in a shmup, but I've mapped it to Alt-F4 and used it to save my ass in my limited adventures in Diablo 2 Hardcore.  As with any other kind of obscure control scheme, it can take some getting used to, but keep in mind that the option exists if you're feeling experimental.
Whether you're on Easy or you're a Lunatic, be damn proud of your accomplishments.  Don't let anyone convince you otherwise, for it's when you lose faith in your own achievements that those victories become defeats.

If only this was Donpachi week ;_;

You made me try this too:

Well, it's yet another Cave 1cc, but that was a lot easier than I expected. The amount of bombs that game gives you is really ridiculous.

EDIT: Hey cool, I also beat Sapz' first 1cc score :V

Type-C versus Type-A. ;_;
Anywho though, congrats! I need to get back to this game one of these days. :P

EDIT: Goddamnit arghhhhh I just ruined the greatest run of Ketsui I'd ever had. I had 37.5 million by the end of Stage 2 and about 60-65m by the end of Stage 3 (perfect to that point), then I decided that improvising scoring on stage 4 and 5 which I'd never really tried before would be a good idea. Deaths all over the place ensued which led to a game over about a minute or two from the final boss with 102m, 6m less than my highscore. ;_;

No deaths until Extra boss. Derp the castle. derp Jitterbug's final attack twice.

I hate my inconsistency.

Oh, and I need to try Donpachi. It looks a lot fairer than DDP at least.

Donpachi has the most unfair thing in any shmup. I mean those yellow ships in the first half of st5 that just suddenly crush you under the front section that comes from below without any warning. The st4 ramming ships are also really annoying if using the A type.

rRootage

Holy shit. This is fun. Fun as hell.
For everyone who wants to know, this borrows LOTS of stuff from other games. The shottypes are varied (Normal type with bombs, Psyvariar type with invincibility from grazing. Giga Wing type with Reflect Force and Ikaruga Type with Polarity) and it has plenty of patterns based on other shmups like Guwange, Daioujou, Ketsui, Progear and more. Try it out fuckers

YES. Dimahoo is much more fun than any cave shmup i've ever played.
Way below Ketsui mate :V

Speaking of Ketsui, 1DNB Sphinx, 1DNB Jamadhar, 1DNB Evaccania and 1DNB Trafalgar Ura. This controller keeps screwing me up  :fail:

Apparently the US version of DP I used is a bit easier (more bombs) so my score isn't really comparable. To fix that, I got 9.8M and 2-2 in the Japanese one. I should have gotten to 2-3 because I entered the boss with 3 bombs but I was too reluctant to use them.

Very nice. Have you attempted to hit the loop yet? Being able to consistently 1DNB/perfect Evaccania (and the other bosses) would put you in very good stead for that, it helped me quite a lot especially given how you want to save most of your available 'mistakes' for the reverse/underground part of Stage 5. :V

Whatever, its not playable over Mame so it doesn't matter how good it is.  :V

PS: That is, i couldn't find it anywhere and importing a game from Cave is like playing with fire for me. I need to try stuff before i buy stuff.

Even if Ketsui's not up your alley, you can re-sell it very easily as it's one of the most sought-after games.

Then i'll maybe get it. Its supposed to be region-free for 360 right? Then i might be able to get one of my friends to order it for me. But... if its one of the most sought-after games doesn't that make it incredibly expensive?

Oh, you're thinking Mushihimesama Futari. Ketsui is region locked. Also, They're both sought after, but there are enough copies to pass around so price is pretty much maintained for the time being.

That would require me to get a japanese 360 then which is something that my current financial situation cannot afford unfortunately.

Well i'll just have to go ask Formless to stop saying things that makes me wanna play it. Oh and back here in Denmark the cheapest 360 models barely cost more than PS2's. Guess that makes you even poorer than me.  :V

Aww Cave, why can't you sell your games over Steam?

I think releasing games for the PC is just a totally unknown concept for the Japanese. Considering how well things like Steam are doing I'd bet it would be a really good move for Cave.
