Whoa, let's not get carried away now. I actually think this show is pretty good. I even enjoy the fanservice (when it's not flagrantly violating the laws of physics), and IIRC, it's been pretty much nonstop right from the get-go. I understand that that's not everyone's cup of tea, but I don't get why people are suddenly changing their minds 7 episodes in. :/

plenty of 4th wall breaking in the anime of Hayate, and you don't watch it because of the funnies enough, (though yes, it is hilarious and entertaining), you also watch it because Wakamoto is narrating it (whom I rate HIGH UP THERE tier voice as the one who voiced Kuroko in Railgun) (them being both commentators and narrators to a show has no connection to that but it is cool too).

You also watch it because it has Hayate in several known episodes appeared as a cat-magical mahou shoujo, and also as a cat maid (my favorite rewind episode ever).

Great horror wise... I'd say Shiki for now, it is a running show with quite a lot of emphasis for suspense and horror and near well zero combat. I'd put Gantz as horror psychological future thriller but not specifically horror. (but it is gory no doubt). I suppose the anime which I seen to be truly horror and focused on horror would have to be Jigoku shoujo. If you watched that already, then I don't really know.

I like to pick up Ga-Rei someday, it started rather poorly imo, but quickly became highly entertaining in the later books and episodes far as I heard.
Ga-Rei Zero is a confirmed battle + horror show.

Finally got around to watching the Darker than Black OVAs, and they were awesome. Now I have nothing to watch, so can someone tell me a few anime that take place mostly in a big city (not including a school, or at least not mostly in a school), such as Darker than Black, Chaos;Head, and Phantom ~Requiem of the Phantom~? I don't really care what genre it is, though action would be nice. I just have a sudden urge to see a city for some reason  :/

Revolutionary Girl Utena is the queen/king/prince(?) of corny shoujou anime, and I love it.

Tatami Galaxy seemed targeted towards young adults who fret over everything and expect too much out of life, some of the episodes were easy to relate to.  It would have to be the first cartoon with a moral to the story i've seen since I was a kid.

Re: Railgun.

Wakamoto as Kuroko -> Improve show exponentially. Uiharu character development needed: Not much if she has characters like Kuroko/Misaka to live up to.

my understanding is that the first wasn't so imposing on what I described above, it was closer to Mystery: as solved by two immortal lesbians. than Giant Tree and Mystery and Hermaphrodite Crime Lords vs the Immortal Mystery Solving Lesbians Detectives.
