So I tried to do a SA Normal No Vert 1cc.

No deaths until stage 4, ok. Eventually got to Okuu's second last card, and that was all bombs.

And then I realized the last card made it absolutely impossible.

edit: oh yeah, her third card is also stupid.

I don't think Okuu's final card makes it impossible to clear. I watched your run, it could obviously be improved, especially in the Okuu fight.
Try timing out her last card by moving to the side when you get drawn too close to Okuu, instead of letting yourself get completely destroyed.
It looked as if her third card could be outlasted by continiously gapping to the left to avoid the huge sun bullets.

Very impressive run regardless, you never practiced the stages like this before either?

I thought about doing that on the last card, but I tried it later in practice mode and it still seemed impossible. Good point about the third card; I never thought of that, for whatever reason.

And yeah, it was my first try.

edit: I played Mystic Square for the first time today. Almost got a Normal 1cc on the single attempt I did, but I lost my last life near the end of Shinki. Decided to continue, and I finished without any more dying/bombing. :(

Yeah I tried an SA No-Vert 1cc a while. You'll have to time out Subterranean Sun :V

Since we're on the subject of SA No Vert,

I got to the final card's timeout phase earlier. It seems possible though, but I think you need at least 4 spare lives going in to the final card to have a shot. You might be able to get away with 3 and high power if the card treats you nicely.

SA Normal Stage 6 no vert clear.

Thanks for the tip on the rotation card; I managed to only die once on it. I think if I started the last card at full power, it could have been done with 3 deaths instead of 4.

I now declare SA Normal no vert to be possible, since it's possible to enter Stage 6 with max lives.

edit: Oh yeah, I forgot about Orin. She should be doable with 2 deaths total. I'm pretty sure that leaves no room for deaths elsewhere.

It is possible to no death up to Utsuho. But you kind of have to capture the final nonspell and Ghost Wheels on Orin as well as timeout the second card. Not sure if you need to 1 bomb the first card.

Why do you have to timeout the second card?

Final nonspell and Ghost Wheels shouldn't be too hard to do. I'd like to see how you think the first card should be done.

edit: I still can't capture the last nonspell. Ghost Wheels is mostly easy. Second card can be done with 2 bombs.

Well, if you have no deathed up to that point, aren't lives maxed out already? Or close enough? I find it better to just time out the second card via gapping to avoid having to bomb at all given the condition, and that's what I did on my latest attempt. So you would have ND2B(-2 power+ power from the card) for a damage clear or NDNB timeout (0 power gain/loss)

Ah, gapping. OK. I agree now that no death Orin is possible.

edit: No death Stage 4 and Stage 5. Now I just need to put it together into one run.

edit: Done. See the accomplishments thread.

4DNB PCB Extra.

2 deaths on Descent of Izuna Gongen predictably.

The reason I'm posting here.

2 deaths on Ran's final nonspell. I have no idea how the hell that happened.

Edit: Every run today so far is derp in all games.

I really need to brush up on this

After getting UFO back on my PC i tried to make an extra run. Why? Because Nue is a pretty nice extra boss. At least much more interesting than that Koishi i have been made fight by LR recently.

The problem is just that i suck at Nue now and i absolutely refuse to use bombs on a mere extra stage. Game overed at Frogger. Too bad. Her final card is the highlight of it all.

My deaths were: Kogasa's 2nd spell. (I used to hate this. I can now see why. I need to get better at this.) Green UFO's. A simple mistake. Not likely to repeat itself. Undefined Darkness. I always found this one to be hard. And finally Nightmare of Heiankyou.

No UFO's. That's cheating too. :)

I'm still really bad at the shooting games and still play on easy mode, so whenever I see an easy-to-avoid pattern and decide to actively try to graze bullets for some more points or whatever, I wind up crashing directly into shots that would have otherwise been extremely easy to dodge.  :derp:

Toying around with a high scoring run of EoSD since I very rarely play for score. I got a high score with ReimuA (who had the highest high score) sometime by the middle of stage 5. But I was doing just awful. No need for bombs in this case. Just terrible gameplay. I got a game over before Remilia (since when do I do that anymore?) while bombing when I had no need and dying during parts that I shouldn't have. I died twice before Meiling. I died only once during all of stage 5 without using a single bomb with a cheap knife redirection during Marionette. How?

Yeah, maybe you wanna wait with that grazing thing until you're done 1cc'ing easy mode. Typically, if you can't 1cc Easy mode its because you don't master the controls yet. Then again, grazing might be a good way to improve that. Just only do it in practice and mind survival only when playing a full game.

arrrrrghhh!!!111one.

So after practing phantasm romance another mode Reimu, I've decided I was proficient enough with her to be able to beat her with a full 1cc of the entire game. So that's exactly what I try to do. I beat the first 3 stages including Yukari without a single death. Then I die twice and bomb 4 times on sakuya, but no biggie, because every time I do great, I suck at her, and vice versa.. Aya comes along, and I manage to beat her with only 1 death (I really suck at her), as for Remilia, same thing.

So I start the mima stage with my lives still overflowing the life count buffer thing, get to mima, manage to reach her 3rd last attack without a single death or bomb, holy shit.

Then I have to pause the game, when I get back, I realize a star was heading towards me and I'd have to hit left as soon as I unpause.. So hit z, then shift-left immediately afterwards.. What happens? Somehow the game crashes, and I lose my progress.

arghaghagh. At that point I KNEW that if I started all over again, it'd be horribad, and sure enough it was, I can't even reach yukari without some stupid death or another. sighhh...

Did some more no horizontal in SA. Went for easymode, game over at cat walk , but I did a ton of mistakes and I think it might actually be possible to beat like this aswell. I know it's a really silly challenge, but I'd be interested to see how far better players can get at this.
I did attempt it on normal a few times, but it seemed as if the fairies before Kisume always fired a single shot straight downwards and forced a bomb every time, which was annoying.

Another No Horizontal attempt SA easy...

Second time I manage a perfect Yamame fight, I'm suspecting that her last card isn't random at all. I'm so bad at keeping chill after such a good start, and Parsee and Yuugi are without a doubt more annoying than Satori and Orin, yet I screw over my resources over and over again by forgetting how to properly deal with stage part sections and perfectly dodgeable attacks (I was trying sitting at the bottom on unnatural phenomenon, bad idea to try that during an actual run). Stage 6 streaming before Orin is the hardest part of the run, though, and it seems impossible to do without full power. Reaching Okuu with less than 2 power and no extra lives I knew getting past her first spellcard would be impossible.

It's been fun, but beating Okuu feels improbable. I'm giving this a rest for now.

Yes, Yamame's last card is static.

The pattern does change slightly. It might change according to your position when the bullets spawn or something like that. That's what I'm hoping for anyway.

You sure?

Anyway, my statement was based on my own experience, which is only on Lunatic, starting from the bottom of the screen. Maybe I'm wrong.

Yes, I'm 100% sure. I checked again now, and sometimes the faster bullet wave kills you while hugging the bottom of the screen (died on the second non-spell to reset position even). The slow bullets seem to be static, though.

If it were just the slower waves being static, then one would expect to see no perfect overlap here whatsoever.

Honestly, I totally suck at vertical shooters in general, so I still have trouble on Easy.  Anyway, no matter which one I play, I always make the stupidest deaths.  Like slamming straight into a slow-moving bullet for no reason.  So yeah...
