Okuu Quest : A Z-Machine Adventure.
« on: May 02, 2010, 09:49:49 PM »

>You are Reiuji Utsuho, and the world is wrong.
>You are a resident of Gensokyo Isle, an isolated nation located in the Pacific Ocean, established some decades ago in the wake of WWII by the Japanese and American Governments. You live in a small, run down double with your roommate Orin. Your adoptive mother and landlady Satori lives in the other half of the house. You are twenty-one years old, and work as a repair woman for Kawashiro Heating and Air. All of this is wrong.
>You think of yourself as a generally well-meaning person. You have a somewhat poor memory, and keep a notepad with you at all times to assist with that. As such, your grades in school were mediocre, and were never able to pursue your dream of becoming a nuclear technician with Gensokyo Research Foundation. However, you've proven to have an aptitude with mechanical things, and have found yourself a comfortable niche repairing heating and air conditioning systems. You have an inordinate fondness for crows, and some of the neighbors have complained about your tendency to feed them. You enjoy video games, good music, good food and good times; like practically any normal person your age. You and Orin have managed to secure a comfortable living together, if somewhat spartan. You are keenly aware that the world is wrong.
>You awoke this morning with a profound sense of alienation, and the conviction that everything you know is wrong. It frightened you like nothing you've ever experienced. For nearly an hour, you laid in bed, almost to tears from the absolute terror that you were losing your mind. But, you can't deny it. The world is wrong. What you know is wrong. You do not know how or know why, but you know it is wrong. And, you know that if you told this to anyone, they would think you are mad. Even Orin and Satori would almost certainly think you've lost your mind. You don't know if there's anyone you could ever turn to with this knowledge, and it frightens you. You don't even feel like part of the world anyone, like you're some stranger who woke up on another planet. But, you have resolved not to take it laying down. You will find how the world is wrong, and you will prove it to everyone! You have to, the only other alternative is that you have gone insane...
>You are in the living room of your home. An old couch you and Orin scavenged from the side of the road the north wall, resting beside the door leading to the bathroom. To the east is a bookshelf full of books that Orin has collected over the years, and a few of your own that are mostly gifts from Satori.  A door to the east leads into the small kitchen and dining room. To the west are the doors to you and Orin's rooms; the old computer the two of you share sits in the northwest corner. Against the north wall is the television, sitting on top of a scavenged and sparsely filled entertainment center. Near the television is the door outside. Obvious exits are North, South, East, West 1 and West 2

Just for future reference, we don't start with much of any inventory, usually just clothes and such. All of the non-clothes stuff Reisen began with she had to search her room for, for example.

> Recall any other important names we may remember.
> Search room for useful items.

>No need to be too proud of it.
>You're a bit taller and stronger.
>Orin is most definite at college right now. Satori might be at home, or she might be volunteering at the shelter.
>You know Nitori, who is your boss. There's a few people you've heard of, like Governor Scarlet, but have never met.
>Define useful. There's a lot of crap in here.

>Determine prevailing sexuality of this world
>Determine own sexuality.

>You're pretty sure statistically 90% of the population is straight.  But this is pretty skewed in this country; Governor Scarlet was infamous for declaring "So what if you marry your dog?" at one point, when asked about this nation's lax attitudes about such things. You're pretty sure no one has done that. Well, no one native born...
>You're pretty into the ladies. It's hardly uncommon.

>
> Check the East room.

>You head east, into the kitchen.
>It is small and kinda cramped in here, but respectably clean. Satori won't let you be lazy about that. The kitchen features a small refrigerator, range stove and oven, and an old microwave. A few small cabinets hold your dishes, and a few drawers your silverware. A small round table with three seats sits off to the side, a plastic lily in a coke bottle set in the middle.

>Roam the house for anything you can move and/or useful and take them.
>Don't forget your toothbrush, it will save your life one day.

>There's a whole lot of crap in this house, and not all of it is yours.
>You do have a toothbrush, but you could never use it again if it gets dirty.
