« on: April 28, 2010, 06:16:20 AM »

I played it a couple times, but then I realized how Demigod so much better and started playing that instead.   :V

I play this from time to time and it's really quite fun.
Zilean with maxed cooldown reduction and 200+ ability power -> laugh with unbridled glee as your opponents run away the instant they see you. Greater hilarity if they never think to buy magic resist.

What heroes do you usually play?

Explain why please. Personally I disliked Dota, had some old guildies convince me to try LoL. Disliked that too. I'm curious if if demigod's "betterness" (that's an awsome word) is caused by things that I thought those two games lacked.

To put it simply, if you disliked the genre, you probably won't think too much of Demigod.

I prefer how Demigod only has a handful of unique heroes, instead of DotA/LoL/HoN's absurd number of generic ones.  Seriously, more than 10 is pretty much overkill.  Most matches are decided by teamwork and skill rather than grinding for experience and gold.  Items are important, but they won't change the game.  In DotA, any hero could dominate the field given enough stat-boosters and items.  Demigod heroes have specific roles and items will not change those roles for the most part.  Units in DotA tend to be mostly cannon fodder and that kind of annoys me.  Demigod gives you the choice of spending your money on team upgrades like unit health or stronger units instead of beefing up your hero.  Everyone has their own preferences, and I prefer Demigod because it's actually balanced and a lot harder to cheese your way through with strong items.  Not to mention that it was made by one of my favorite developers.

This is coming from a guy who played AoS's for nearly a decade.  (DotA included.)

PS:  DotA was way better when it had only 12 heroes.

Here's how the average LoL match goes: start, grind 12 levels without ever meeting an enemy except for a fleeting glimpse, as they retreat immediately to their tower. Keep pushing, probably you have the upper hand. Other hero at lvl 19 comes over, uses an absurd combo that locks you in place and pretty much destroys you without being even able to return fire. They start to push, while your team is out and about beating up units in teams of 2, possibly even retreating from undefended towers "becaus TACKTICULL PLEH". You lose towers, they come back as if woken up from eternal slumber, are annihilated by enemy teamwork/retarded lock in place-destroy combo, you lose.
Winner comments: "LOL NOB U LOES".
Good job.

Other hero at lvl 19 comes over,
uhhh you do know that your hero's level caps out at level 18 right? Your summoner's cap is 30 but tbh the level cap doesn't mean much since the stat boosts you get from the runes and talent tree are minimal

I usually play Sivir or Ezreal depending on who I'm playing with.

I also own demigod. I liked it but for the longest time I had issues with it so I gave up on it. I might come back to it if I'm bored with LoL since you recommend it . I do like the different strategy aspect of it.

Look, does anything in my post look like it's aimed to be perfect, accurate information? Or do you get just a hint of humorous exaggeration?

DotA was way better when it had only 12 heroes.

I never played it back when that version was popular but the few times I played older versions it was better because of Garrondel the bland heros were much more interesting when items couldn't be whored.

My biggest issue with the genre is the fact that they are team games. But feature people who aren't really team players, and spend more time yelling at each other, blaming others, etc, than actually shutting up and playing. Even if you join a newbie game, people yell at you for not magically knowing that the enemy hero can grab you thru the forest, or nuke you for 400 when you're in your base (and they aren't), or stun you for 5 seconds, or leech all your mana, or, or ,or.. I mean it's basically impossible to know the dangers and counters of 100+ heroes  moves as a new person, yet you're a fucking nubtard omg what a scrub if you don't.

The funny thing is the same people that yell at you for not knowing what the enemy is capable of seem equally unable to comprehend what you're capable of as an ally. One time I had someone ragequit because I didn't "help" him fight these 2 guys by hexing one of them...The thing is I *DID* hex one of them, and after it wore off he kept fighting. Apparently hex has no cooldown...Right.

Seems like every time I help an ally stupidly charge a buncha enemies they bail and I die for trying to help (when I didn't want to in the firs tplace knowing I'd probably die). And every time I don't help knowing it's a lost cause, it's my fault the fight was lost.

Funny thing is nobody ever complains about how bad I (or anybody else on my team) is when we're winning. But it's everyone's fault but theirs when they're losing >=P.

I think the game would be cooler if there was an option for more teams than just 2.

I remember playing some 3-way and 4-way games in WC3.  It's pretty much the same concept except 2-3 people per team.  Really hard to get used to because you can be attacked from a large number of directions.  Doesn't help much when three teams gang up on you because you are too strong.

I know a lot of people that consider Demigod to be 'basic' or 'simple'.  People that require a million different abilities that can kill the enemy in seconds will obviously dislike the game.  Of course, every game will suffer from dumb players that do nothing but whine.  I personally dislike the DotA/LoL community.  At least Demigod has somewhat mature (although unskilled) players most of the time.
