Good games for the Xbox 360
« on: April 13, 2010, 04:55:56 PM »
Hello everyone,

I've always been a fanatic for RPGs and I've been playing shmups for a while now. I have an xbox 360 and ALL of my games are either RPGs or Shmups.
I was feeling like taking a break for a while and looking for other kinds of games that could be interesting.

The catch is, I hate first person shooters. Ever since Doom and Quake I've hated them with a passion. I can't stand killing AI characters with a gun be it on a jungle, spaceship, desert, icy mountains, whatever..

I've been searching for other kind of games I might like and I took an interest in Bayonetta, Dante's Inferno and Darksiders.
I'm even considering buying all 3 of them and selling them in a local forum if I don't really enjoy.

Can any of you guys recommend me some other good games? I'm also not too keen on fighting games...

For instance, when I was a kid I used to love Megaman, Streets of Rage, Sonic, Castelvania, Metroid... (Yeah I know about MM9 and 10, and plan on getting them sometime as well)

Thanks for the attention.

I have all the Cave shmups for the 360 that have been released

Futari, Galuda 2, DOJBLEX and Deathsmiles =P

I was trying to get a way from the shmup and rpg genre... at least until Ketsui is released, that is >.>

Do not get Sonic 2006. It will severely harm any fond memories you have of Sonic games. Unleashed is a big improvement over it, but is still pretty hit or miss ('miss' = most werehog stuff).
There're some good Dynasty Warriors games on 360 (namely Warriors Orochi 2 and Strikeforce if you're into online play). Dunno if they're your type of thing.
Senko no Ronde is a fun shmup-fighter hybrid that deserves a mention regardless of what you're looking for.

Every other 360 game I have is either an FPS or an RPG and I haven't played any of the three you specifically mentioned, so... yeah.

Well, you may enjoy Assassin's Creed 2. The wide openess of the game, stylish yet realistic fighting and intriging plotlines made this a great game for me, though that's just my view.

If you wanna get another RPG, you could try End of Eternity/Resonance of Fate? Looks awesome, and is pretty new to boot.

However, since I'm not too keen on the older games, like sonic....I can't really help you there. Sorry =/

Oh thanks! I loved the first Assassin's Creed. That's exactly the kind of game I was looking for, I didnt know there was a second game already =)

I've heard about Resonance of Fate, seems to have a pretty nice battle system. I planned to get it after I finished FF13, but I stopped playing that for a while...

I'll take a look at it =)

Wow, I thought everyone knew about AC2 already. from what I know, it had a pretty large budget, which involved a nice amount of advertising. Still, no prob :)

I enjoyed Prototype but that's a mix between many people. For me though it was one of the funnest sandboxes.

At first I was gonna say the Ghost Recon series, but then I read that you didin't like fps's.
Then I was going to suggest Street Fighter IV, and then I read that you didn't like fighters.

If you like Metal play Brutal Legend. It's a Beat-em-up/RTS hybrid

As good a game as it is, the console versions aren't even comparable to the splendor that is TF2 on a PC.

And while I do see the OP says he hates first person shooters, I should probably mention: I do too, and yet TF2's the best game I've ever played.  The fact that I have 2338.3 hours of playtime on it stands as testament to that.  No, that wasn't a typo.

Heh, that's the same thing for just about every PC game compared to it's console counterpart. Only thing consoles normally have over them is it's cheaper to get compared to a good computer that can play it, and it normally have the larger community. Though there are some games that just have crappy ports on the PC.

Anyways, does your hatred for FPSes go for TPSes as well? If not I'd suggest Mass Effect.

I'd also say to try out Dead Rising. That game is pretty good fun.

Stop making me want to play TF2 on a PC so much!

Also, Eternal Sonata  is a fun jRPG and it has a multiplayer battle system. Then you have Tales of Vesperia as well.

You know, I have the console version, and I've been meaning to get the PC version, but my friend and the forum he posts in keeps mentioning how the lack of upgradable weapons and all helps balance the overall game, compared to the PC version.

I'm still getting the PC version sooner or later though.

Look out for those special deals Valve do. My friends all got it for $2 when Valve was doing that special deal thing.

Not necessarily.

Saint's Row 2 on PC sucked ass, GTA4 on PC runs as slow as hell, NFS3 wasn't as good etc etc

Why yes, Guilty Gear 2 was quite lacking in Testament. But that's okay, we finally got a chance to play as Raven so it's cool.

If you don't like first person shooters you could try third person, like gears of war 1 & 2, you can get both cheap first- or secondhand.
Or try Bayonnetta/Dante's Inferno/Ninja Gaiden 2 if you like hack 'n slash. I don't know about the first 2 but NG2 has touhou-like difficulties.
Fable 2/Dragon Age Origins if you like RPG.
Guitar Hero if you like different

Try Batman: Arkham Asylum. It's my favorite 360 game and I don't even particularly like Batman.

Get Darksiders if you like Zelda. Also, if you're going to try Assassin's Creed, don't bother with the first one, just skip straight to the sequel.

Do not expect a decent story from Ninja gaiden 2, in short: bad guys steal item, kill lots of bad guys, kill biggest bad guy.
I like it purely from the gameplay and visual effects, it compensates the rest completely.
