Now I said earlier that this one seemed plain, but Cytokine did have a really good song in "Where is Love" so I'm expecting this one's good at least. Not great, not excellent, just good. I don't know Cytokine.

Same goes with Alstroemeria, but I know this circle, and I know they're good, so I'm expecting good stuff.
 I just checked their track list and it looks like they got songs from "Harmony" in there.

Anyway...
I've listened to:

Touhou Eurobeat
Cytokine - Voice Blinded Color
Alstroemeria Records - Of Memories
and others. I'll formally include a list later.

I haven't heard of anything ALiCE's EMOTiON was releasing this summer, hopefully I'll get around to doing that soon.

So for this post, I'll be reviewing Alstroemeria Records' Release.

Track 1: Forbidden Cube
There's a guy who goes "shit shit shit shit" as it echoes over and over and the volume is reduced~HAHAOLDCHAP

Catchy, though.

Track 2: Dream Battle
Arrange of Reimu's theme. I tend to like mixes of this one a lot, and Masayoshi Minoshima seems to have a done a usual excellent job at this. Reimu's theme is actually pretty hard to kill, yo~

Track 3: Romantic Fall
Arranger: Masayoshi Minoshima
Vocal: Mei Ayakura

At first I thought Mei's voice was similar to that of Misawa Aki's. (Mature and developed, as heard in her songs from Alstroemeria Records' C77 Release (Plastik World))

But I notice that there's a huge difference. Mei certainly has a much younger sounding voice.

Track 4: Fantasia

A mix of Necrofantasia. I love these as well. Did someone tell these guys what my favorite Touhou songs were? *laughs*

Track 5: Pray for Answer

What did they do her voice this time? It sounds kinda weird.

I don't like her voice in this one. =[

But the music is awesome. Just wish they haven't mixed the voice so much in this one.

Track 6: Fire

I don't like Mican and her loli voice. Masayoshi made an excellent composition of music, just to have her voice kill it.

UFO Stage 6 Theme. It is a powerful OST, and it's difficult to get that one arranged nicely. Why use such a weak voice!?
The song is beautiful, though.

Track 7: Magical Astronomy

Vocal: Nomiya Ayumi 野宮あゆみ

That's REDALiCE alright, and a mix of Eirin's theme, at that. Happy Hardcore. Freaking love this guy man. Saw his U-Stream where he talked Comiket.

Track 8: Faith Is...
Arranger: T+Pazolite
Vocal: Rizuna

Another mix of UFO Stage 6 Theme. This guy's very good at-------------
FUCK LOLI VOCALS AHHH SHIT

Now, don't get me wrong. Loli vocals are fine. Thing is... I stopped listening to Vocaloid for a reason. The pitch is too goddamn high that it pierces your ears. Rizuna has those lyrics where you sing and hold it. As I hear her trailing "aaaaaaaaaaaaa" my ear is going "aaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh"

I will not listen to this song again.

Track 9: Loop
Arranger: Tsukasa
Vocal: 珠梨

This is another beautiful OST that is a wonderful treat to be arranged. The vocal is lovely, even more so after listening to Mican and Rizuna.

Guess what's better than one Touhou arrange? Using more than one, of course! Don't let the simple title fool you, this one's great!

Track 10: Tutelary
Arranger: Syrufit
Vocal: Mican

Can't make up a proper opinion on this one. I'd say to translate it first. It's a good closing song, but there's one more after it.

Track Final: Reflection, Flower View (Syrufit Remix)
Arranger: Masayoshi Minoshima

It says Syrufit Remix, but it's under Masayoshi Minoshima. I'm assuming it's a remix of a remix. =/

As usual, I don't like the closing songs much because it means it's the end of the album. I enjoyed it.

Look guys... My main beef with Mican and Rizuna's voices is that they sound like they're from your sterotypical loli characters from your stereotypical Japanese eroge, which I have heard/listened to so many times and I've gotten sick of it so long ago.

The album's worth your 1000 yen (Now 1500...). The music is good, there's some variety, and it'd be best to not compare the album to the others ones. You won't enjoy it if you do.

Of course, best way to enjoy your music is to understand the lyrics as well. Get cracking and study Japanese.

Syrufit - Replica

Quiet, smooth and nice chillout music. I like it a lot. Actually, the more I listen to it, the more I like it. I find myself listening to this one more than Where is Love, though I like the other one better.

You know, you really get the quiet feeling. The music doesn't try to blow that bass or anything. You might have a dance beat or two, but it's quite discreet.

I've mentioned 私と少女と風と (Track 5) before. There should be more of this. It's beautiful.

Sometimes it's not about wanting to jump madly with the beat of the music. Sometimes you just wanna chill. This is perfect.

WAVE's choral Border of Life remix on Archiv-East was the song that got me into the series, so it remains my favorite for nostalgia at least. Unfortunately that is way too much japanese stuff to scrape together with various translator websites so I can't even tell you what its called. Some of my other favorites (in no particular order) include:

• At Crimson Tower ~ WAVE
  
  As much as I liked Border of Life, this song had a very moving sound and between the two my taste for Touhou music was pretty much already set. Even now, in a pinch, I'm likely to prefer a well-made soft remix to an equally well-made epic remix.
  
  
• Bad Apple ~ Alstromeira Records
  
  I bet this is on way too many people's lists of favorites, but I loved the original theme in Lotus Land Story, even when I was too ignorant to really understand what was going on in the game. This theme didn't get my attention until the "stylized shadow art" video went around, at which point I'd become hooked.
• Play My Game (Lady's) ~ ELEMENTAS
  
  My favorite techno/engrish song of the bunch, and its not one of 709sec's works. The whole thing sounds playful, from the lyrics to the instruments, to the fact that the remix belongs to a mouse girl. (I'm also partial to her theme in the UFO demo) There are also a few other engrish remixes I like, I tend to like 709sec's stuff, specifically Rumia's (lyrics are so cute) and I also like Heaven's Gate (engrish Septette remix).
  
  
• Save This Land ~ As/Hi
  
  I'm not sure what this is, probably metal? Anyway, "The Gensokyo the Gods Loved" is another one of Touhou's all-time best themes and this remix really does it justice. It is vocal, but has hugely substantial parts which are just the instruments and improv. The song is really on an epic scale, even if its rather long.
  
  
• Aisye -ye ru amma- ~ Riverside
  
  The interlaced vocals in this song really add to the atmosphere. I love songs that have such incredible ambiance and this one does an excellent job using the properties of the voice to maintain that ambiance. I've listened to many "New Age" genre songs (I guess its sorta neo-folk?), and I know quite a few tend to get lost in their own atmosphere without moving forward, and while I like her stuff Enya is one such offender. This however, keeps moving, building and changing and evolving without ever compromising itself.
  
  
• Halozy - Collapsing Star Prominence
  
  I probably shouldn't even like this song nearly as much as I do. However once I'd seen it subbed, it sorta grabbed me. The tale told by the song is rather dark, but the darkness is part of its beauty. (and its still dark even if I consider that last chorus figurative rather than literal) I think something about how the song is some manner of romance in the midst of the end of everything gives it a little something that makes it hard to be purely objective toward the instruments and vocals (both of which are probably merely above average with everything taken into account).
  
  
• Hourai no Omoi Jin ~ IOSYS
  
  And speaking of lack of objectivity... I posted this one last because there's a story behind this one. Okami was probably the game that got me out of my comfort zone and actually willing to take in Japanese folklore. After playing the game, I wanted to find out more about Kaguya-hime and its come to be my favorite folk tale of all time. Fast forward a year or so, and I'm taking speech class with a storytelling (as if toward kids) assignment due, and manage to reach Kaguya for the first time in Imperishable Night so I treated myself to a few of her themes. This was among them, and I decided I was going to tell the Tale of the Bamboo Cutter for speech class.
  The story is apparently not very well known around here, and there aren't even any children's books around for it. I decided to illustrate it myself. This also gave me a lot of control in how I wanted the story to be told. I made the suitors faceless sillhouettes and didn't delve into their story so as to focus primarily on Kaguya. I focused on some artistic elements to indicate her affinity with the moon. All along, the song's romantic sound influenced my interpretation of the story, which helped to soften the bittersweet ending.
  When all was said and done, I aced the speech, and I'm certainly going to accredit at least some of that to the song that inspired me to go through all this work.... oh and its a lovely song too.

This is far from a comprehensive list. I have a ton of favorites from a huge range of genres and circles. Every day I try to find a different Touhou remix on youtube to share with friends and family, and it is usually accompanied by a little review or a little bit of background info about the character or game.

I just got this recently as a gift from one of my friends, and I am absolutely loving it so far.

Such bullshit will prevent you from listening to beautiful music! That said, give this one a try. It isn't hardcore/metal/classical, but it's catchy, enjoyable and you'll most likely love it more each time you listen to it.

Very stylish. And a small detail if you don't have adequate Japanese support... No mojibake when importing CD; everything is in English.

As someone who spends most of his time touring the vast selection of remixes available for the Touhou games, I couldn't imagine passing up something by XL Project for the likes of Sound Holic. I've listened to a few of XL Project's songs and quite like their style. The only one of theirs that I actually know rather well, however, is an excellent rendition of Phantom Ensemble. It started out with a mellow theme played on the piano with a muted voice, and then for the chorus two minutes in, it jumped to the full volume. I guess it was a little unorthodox, but I found it sweet, sad, and just a little eerie.

My favorite group for the moment would be Seventh-Heaven Maxion. I am really loving the songs from their new album, and can't wait until I can afford to get my hands on it. While I've heard a few gems from ENS, SHM really delivers excellent stuff consistently. I can't remember listening to anything from that circle which I didn't like.
