NOOOOOOOOO... Economy is bar-none the most important thing in an RTS for me... Though I wouldn't say you need a degree for Supreme commander. ~*~~*~~*~the economy~*~~*~~*~ definitely has more depth than most RTS games, but it's not really all that complicated IMO. Or maybe they're just saying that for something else *shrugs*.
I totally agree and why to this day I still adore TA/SupCom. It's a level of macromanagement and strategy unmatched by any other RTS model. I literally feel like the eye in the sky god orchestrating an entire legion of killing machines, rather than just a grunt with a better view. There are gambits and ploys that makes Boxer and Flash look like kids playing in the school yard. Being able to make a comeback when outnumbered and outteched by hedging your bets on that ONE kill makes it even more exciting. Superior numbers and even superior tech doesn't mean anything if you use them like a blunt object rather than a precision scalpel.
I think objectively Supreme Commander 2 looks to be a good game, with a lot of depth and definitely captures a scale still no RTS dares to reach (and are actually trying to get away from). Problem is, it's not SupCom1/TA except for sharing races and units. The economics are simpler, instead of tiers that wholly replace existing units you upgrade units in place, and there's a lot more emphasis on the big shiny killer robots than a swarm of tiny ones.
I dunno, I'll probably get it because MORE GAMES NEED STRATEGIC ZOOM

And nukes, not prissy little Starcraft nukes, but vaporizing all living life in a 20 block radius nukes.
