A thread for us to talk about relevant stuff concerning current, past and future games.

Suggestions, ideas, complaints and requests should be placed here.

Your game sucks. Delete thread, never mention again

Edit: To appear useful, I am curious who reads what.

I read Chen's Day Out, and have taken up Halurei Shrine Reitaisai, as it could be interesting.

You could just do that yourself, Purv. :V

More satisfying to browbeat someone else into doing it.

I noted an existing fondness of Umineko among the userbase. Considering this, there are certain mock games which used to be played on 4chan, providing a homebrew solution to the mysteries. And, lately, ignoring some of the episodes to just make the games fun rather than an unravelable theory.

I was wondering if people were interested in playing such a mock game of the Battler VS Beatrice game.

Wrathie did one once. Not sure what name he goes by now but yeah. That said, I'd be willing to give it another shot. Assuming it's well constructed and such.

Sounds interesting. Just wondering, will there be rules against spoiling the games? I've played the first 5 eps and wouldn't want to learn spoilers from ep6 by accident, and I think the same goes for other people as well.

Well, one solution to solve "spoiling" is to use the first gameboard, which is the most well-known, or by using a custom written one.

If it is just for fun, a custom written one should work marvelously either way.

I can't guarantee a "well-constructed one", although I do like to present these sort of games in a way that you don't need to hammer your head into a wall because the solution is too contrived or absurd to think of. :P

I'd also like to avoid the popular theories though, because it's too easy to guess at them, huh? :p

I'd vote for custom-made gameboards, though the first episodes would work as well. You shouldn't go further than episode 3 though, I'd say.

I'm definitely in on that game.

Custom-made takes a lot of writing for it to be genuine and good, though.

I'm preparing a succinct summation of the first gameboard, and then I'll prepare the thread. There should be no spoilers past episode1 in the entire game; I intend to start with a clean slate, so the gameboard will be devoid of any pre-existing red.

I can't promise it'll be amusing, because I might have differing opinions on what's fun and what's not, but I'll try my best.

Do people prefer to have it in Adventure Text Game format? :P

:) Sure. Of course. That's why I took the effort to write a succinct synopsis of the events. You'll be at a slight disadvantage because I omit spoken text, speculations, possible small clues from the VN itself but the mystery should be solvable even without them.

Hey, I'm kinda new here. Are paragraph-style roleplays allowed? I have no clue as to whether or not I should post it...
Example: (extremely short, btw due to my laziness)
I post
Mikirin walks through the forest, obviously lost.
Another person posts
Mystia giggles in the darkness, singing her song.
--
Or somethin like that, I guess you can call it story-telling roleplaying?
I'm wondering because I want to start either a roleplay where original characters stumble into Gensokyo or a touhou-like all original world thing (Danmaku, spellcards, etc are used but there is all original characters and a new world)

Can anyone help me? I'm sorry if this made no sense, I'm kinda looney atm ._.
Basically, is para/story-type roleplaying allowed?

The sort of RP that is allowed depends on what the GM wants. All RP must follow the forum's general posting rules and it should be fine.

Check here in the story threadsd and see what sort of roleplay the forum has. Single line response stuff is better suited for IRC/chat RP.

Thank you! *hugs*
I meant for it to be not-so-single lined, but my mind wasn't working @@

So, basically I can make three threads? Registration, OOC Discussion, and the roleplay itself?

Sorry, I'm just trying to adjust to the new forum, I know how to start an RP and stuff but I just don't want to do anything wrong ^^;;

One thread for the actual RP and one thread for reg and OOC. WuftD only has so many threads because it was before any real organisation was established. Make the reg thread first and let OOC talk happen there once te initial reg is done.

Concerning my game:

I'm putting it on hiatus for one week.  I have a lot of things I need to do, and I can't really focus on writing for this right now.  Look for it to restart next weekend.

HEY GUYS

I have a question for all you denizens of RPG. Why in blue blazes do you find these text adventures to be so utterly fascinating? What makes them so much more interesting than static fiction or even CYOAs, where the writer gives you choices and you pick one?

I don't like them myself, which is why I never come here; I really dislike games, and I lack a sense of humor and creativity in general, but even then, I would like some kind of explanation as to why this sort of game is so enthralling that you make thread after thread about them.

I can't speak for the others, but I enjoy seeing how the GM parses out the random commands.
Let's Play: BIT.TRIP FLUX | Let's Play: Malicious | Skyward Sword: Shieldless Final Boss | Skyward Sword: Boss Rush! | Ace Combat Infinity: Campaign in the X-02 Wyvern

Move eternally forward,
So that we may always be at your side.

Because EVERY choice is ours, IMO. The person running the game gives us the setting, and we run about in it. CYOAs generally force you between 2 or 3 choices (as far as I know), and static fiction, quite frankly, isn't interactive. So, it's a blend of telling a story and playing an interactive game that comes off beautifully. It's mostly a matter of what you are looking for, IMO.

This, from the parser side. It's having to consider each action against a broader plan or lack of plan, and seeing surprising things happen that you didn't anticipate. CYOA is pretty much just railroading in comparison, and I don't get to see the things nearly so many things people come up with.
