IN Time Points
« on: January 15, 2010, 09:11:14 PM »
I'm playing on Normal, and I'm trying to get all the last spell cards. I think I have figured out that I need a certian amount of time points to get them, but I don't really know how you get more time points. How do you get more time points? Any help would be appericiated.

Shooting unfocused, with the human side above 80% (30% for Youmu), grazing during a boss battle with Youkai side above 80% (30% for Youmu again), and for familars alive when a host dies.  Killing familiars will decrease your gauge.

I believe it tells you how to get them all in the wiki.

No need for time points as far as I can tell.

Now, bitch, get out of the way!

I belive he was talking about Last Spell, not worlds.  Its a easy mistake to make, as I have many times.

So I Souldn't kill familiars? I assumed killing everything would get you more points, but ok! Thanks for the really fast reply!

Leave familiars alive, but kill their owners while they're still onscreen.  That'll cause the familiars to explode into a cluster of time points.

Don't die. Don't deathbomb, but this is preferable to dying.

Shoot as a human with the gauge at the proper amount. Graze as a Youkai with that much. Solo Youmu can do both of these, but you probably don't have soloing unlocked.

Switch to Youkai when dealing with enemies that summon familiars. Once they're gone either stay Youkai to shift to the Youkai side or go back to human to stay there. You'll usually want to be human.

For bosses, try to finish nonspells when there are familiars if possible. Even here, unfocused usually gets you more time than grazing, but some cards are better with grazing then shooting. Capturing spellcards helps with time too.

It's harder on lower difficulties since time comes more easily on the higher ones. Bullets canceled by exploding familiars will add time as well.

1. Play stages mostly unfocused and stay unfocused.
2. When an enemy comes out with familiars, switch momentarily to focused to take them down, then unfocus againafter they're destroyed.  Focus won't hurt the familiars, so you'll be able to eliminate the source and get bonus time from the familiars self-destructing, plus clear away a crapload of bullets at once.
3. During bosses, pretty much stay focused all the time is my advice, or almost all the time.  Staying one or the other is the recommendation.
4. Aim to capture spellcards and not die/deathbomb, because the latter will incur time penalties, but capturing cards adds notably to your time.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I do have soloing unlocked BTW, I beat Final B with everyone on easy because I like to complete everything I can in a game. One more question, you said deathbombing lowers your time points, but what about normal bombing?

Normal bombing incurs no penalty to Time Points.

Any suggestions for when using someone with reverse focus syndrome? Like Youmu/Yuyuko? I can do perfectly fine with Reimu and Yukari, but it seems that there is far more reason to unfocus on bosses with the Netherworld team.

When you successfully capture a boss's spellcard, they spit out oodles of time orbs. These orbs will also force your gauge pretty much to the deep end of whatever mode you're in, Human or Youkai.

I use Netherworld all the time. Say you're going up against a card where you're grazing around for free orbs. And then you finish it and cap it. As soon as it caps, unfocus, let Youmu suck up all the time orbs. You'll suddenly be at 50% Human and gain time orbs for using unfocused shot. You can probably milk 600 or so before you have to actually focus and start concentrated grazing again.

Generally speaking, focusing and grazing quickly gets you out of human-time-orb zone. If that happens to you, chances are you should be focusing/grazing on that card in the first place, though there are maybe a few exceptions.
