Inaba Tour ~ Imperishable Week

Inaba Tour ~ Imperishable Week

Raining Rabbits is a small Visual Novel engine developed by me; as an example I bring to you the demo of a Visual Novel I am currently working on. It took around 1 month and a half to do this from scratch (counting in a lot of free days and lot of stuff I had to do). Inaba Tour is a story I'm expecting to write about Eientei, it centers around Udongein (since she is my favorite character).

RainingRabbits for the moment is quite basic, but it does a lot of thing that Visual Novels do nowadays; Load, Options, Scene selection, script reading systems, etc. The Save system is the only basic thing not working right now since I'm having quite a few problems with it. It is not a problem since the demo is quite short, so it is not needed right now. You can make a manual save state by changing any of the load*.rrl files' last '--' for the number of the line you want to start in.

The reason I'm bring such a weak release is because I want to know opinions, ideas and other things I can add to the engine. I'm going to turn this engine into RPG system, but I need to polish the basic things first.

My first language is spanish, so grammatical errors are a must. Please, bare with me.

* Systems Requirements:
Minimum support for XNA Framework

 - CPU Single Core 1.0Ghz
 - RAM Memory 128MB
 - VRAM Memory 32MB (Support DX9+)
 - 50MB of free HDD

*  Systems Requirements:
Minimum support for XNA Framework

 - Windows XP SP 1/2/3, Vista or Ultimate (7)
 - Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 SP1

*: I have planned a Spanish version in the future.

* Installation:

 - Extract the folder into a location in your computer.
 - If you receive a error message when you execute it, install the application that comes inside the folder 'XNA Framework Redistributable 3.1'.
 - If it still doesn't work, you need to install the Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 ServicePack1. If it doesn't fix the problem, then you require the Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 and then proceed to install 3.5

It is possible that these last two steps happen in computers with XP as the OS, since they are not updated. IMPORTANT: It is under the users risk to install this updates.

* Basic controllers

 - 'Enter' to skip the intro.
 - 'Z' or left click to move into the next line.
 - 'X' or right click to complete the line automatically.
 - Left arrows to go back in the script.

Any other interaction is with the mouse.

How come you made next line and auto complete different buttons? It seems pretty pointless and awkward especially when compared compared to other VNs.

Presentation and stuff looks quite nice so far especially if you coded this from scratch.

Eh if I click off screen it still reads my clicks :/

Awesome. I just hope this doesn't turn into some sort of Hentai game though...it's just plain visual novel right? :-X

I'm taking note. I'll probably make it a single key for next release.

Also, I have notice this problem about the .exe taking every input as an order to it. I have been researching for a week on how to solve the problem, I'll find a solution eventually.

No, it won't. It may have some ecchi moments, since it is kind of important to build a relation with the character after all. After all, I say 'may'.

I'm no good at storytelling. If someone can instruct me a bit, that would be wonderful. Thanks for the words, I'll work really hard to finish this project as soon as I can.

First of all, nice art (esp. the menu screen), but since i saw an alphes bunny im looking for credits on the images you're using :3
(Usually you would credit even yourself if you made them)

And i think i'll wait for the full version if i really have to download the (huge) bgms just to play :3

The art is not mine, I just made all the menu graphics, etc.

I'm working in a lot of other stuff right now, but I still work on this from time to time. The idea for now is to correct all the errors and problems I'm having right now. It seems it runs smoothly now that I have fixed must of the bugs.

Bugs fixed for the next version now:

 * exe doesn't take any inputs as an order.
 * Auto-mode fixed.
 * Crash when trying to load another type of state file fixed.
 * Some offset textures fixed.
 * Save mode works now.

I'll try to get a new version soon with a longer part of the story in it. Thanks for the suggestions and comments!

You need someone to do the character art.
I know one but i don?t know if she would be fine with it.

This might actually be the first VN I find appealing enough to give a try.

I can go over the existing dialogue with a QC comb and PM you the errors I find if you like, though it'll have to wait until much later tonight.

I downloaded it... but the .exe errors at startup. "An error ha occured and the program has been closed. Any data you've been working on has been lost" or something. why does this happen?
