What does one need to start creating music?

I would like to start creating my own hardcore/techno mixes of Touhou music among others. What would I need for this hardware/software wise? A keyboard? A turntable? Any and all help is appreciated. If this has been posted before (coudn't find a topic) or if this is the wrong place, feel free to delete this thread.

Pretty sure every music composer/arranger/creator uses synthesizers, not keyboards. There is actually a difference. Those that don't use a synth often use a plain old controller, and have a seperate soundbox and whatnot.

Making quality music is not easy however, chances are you'll be wasting time and money if you didn't even know that much =\.

After getting FL Studio, get the following plugins:
Poizone
Morphine
Zebra2
Chameleon5000
Octopus

all really good IMO.

and if your doing remixes, getting MIDIs of all the Touhou songs would come in handy. They can be downloaded in many places, just use google.

If you want a hands on experience with synth music, a midi controller with one octave should be ample. You can get more than one octave, in the end it's a preferrence thing.

If you've never done any music theory study, I heavily suggest you do so. It will be a tremendous help.

All you really need is FL, a midi controller (just any old MIDI keyboard will do, I prefer two octaves+ to experiment with chords) and a MIDI cable. Then get some VSTs into FL and try it.

Above all else, you'll need a lot of perseverance. I've tried this before and it's really easy to give up after a few bad attempts. Just remember that if your 23rd mix is the brilliant one, you'll have to get through the first 22.
