Does anyone have any tips for getting a 70+ combo and gathering 10 DNA items? I'm trying to unlock the last bomb and laser options.

Using multiple bombs in quick succession should help with the 70-combo one, but I'm stuck on the 10 DNA one myself.

I got a 1cc of Standard on my last life (although end-game points got me an extend :V) and 30-some bombs in stock. Maybe this can be bomb training?

Also, I was just shooting and collecting at random, so I ended the game with the sword, circle, and laser options. I haven't really looked into getting more stuff, but it was fun.

The best place for the 70-combo is at the start of stage 4.  I believe there's more than 70 ships in that swarm of fighters.

For the 10-DNA, you have to know which enemies carry what you need.  In stage one, there is DNA in the 2nd ship from the right and the 2nd ship from the left on the top row.  In stage two, there is DNA in the first and last blocks of the 2nd row from the top.  In stage three, the two big ships and the later "mid-boss" have DNA.  In stage 4, there is DNA in one of the ships at the start, two more in the city section, and one in the tunnel.  Also, don't get the green DNA in stage 3 or 4.

Huge success. Orbit, Burning and Counter are probably the best weapons of their respective types, although basically all the sub-weapons apart from the default are awesome. Beating the level 4 boss with the level 4 boss was hilarious.

Seconding that the best place for the 70-combo is at the start of stage 4. Try and keep the default Circle bomb (or possibly get Burning) and then just bomb-spam for all you're worth. Commit suicide at the level 3 boss a few times if you want to build up your bomb stock for it.

For the 10 DNA, just listen to LiteYear. Though there's two non-green DNA in the tunnel section (one when you're surrounded by ships while descending into it, and another in the main tunnel itself). I still don't know where the green DNA is on that level.

Thanks for the tips; I'll give them a go later.

Also, does anyone know what the IR codes are for? The manual doesn't mention them, and it feels like I'm missing something obvious.

Did some weapon testing on Creator stages 4/5 while trapped at a relative's. I'm now thinking Blade is the best overall shot type (amongst other things, it absolutely tears through the final boss) and that Zero-Shift is actually more broken than Counter. Either way, both of them need a damn good nerfing.

I don't really understand the bullet-deflecting that the Level 5 Ship is capable of, only that virtually every bullet that gets near you will be deflected if you're using Overclock. I 1cc'ed Creator with it on my first run despite a terrible stage 4.

Excluding most of the sub-weapons (and Cross, which is garbage despite the 20-25% increased bomb refill time), everything else seems reasonably balanced. Graze stops sucking once you get onto the higher difficulties.

Also, does anyone know what the IR codes are for? The manual doesn't mention them, and it feels like I'm missing something obvious.

I wondered about that too. Possibly some sort of unique scoring code?

It looks like the bullet repulsion of the last evolution knocks away any bullets that you graze, as well as any bullets in a certain area when it activates.  Any bullets coming head-on, or you move too fast towards, will not be repelled.

But of course, once you get Counter, that's not much of a problem.

I'm very partial to the Chain bomb, since it comes into great effect in the last stage.  Summon is similarly hilarious.

The Stage 4 Green DNA appears to be held by a red (actually magenta, enemies in this stage seem to have a color change if they have an item) hexagon after the tunnel section.  Spawn point is on the FAR right side.  High chance to miss it altogether, if you're getting a large amount of orbs - it's way too easy to hit 800 right before it spawns.  Not only that, but it's almost always offscreen, if you're staying near the middle of the area.

Also, try doing a replay - it looks like fast-forwarding at all will cause desync.

I enjoyed Genetos. An experience for the eyes, I'd say (unless you turned on Motion Blur and set it to the max, then you were just blinded instantly).

Also, try doing a replay - it looks like fast-forwarding at all will cause desync.

That's really unfortunate... so in order to circumvent that, I took a screencap of my high score!

Orbit/Circle/Summon : No Motion Blur

Anything under Hacker mode isn't challenging enough and Creator mode just hurts in the first to third generations. It's a nice balance for me.

Weeee. 2nd Creator 1cc & I finished with either 14 or 15 lives left. Stage 4 wasn't so hot (missed one of the city DNA, couple of absurdly stupid deaths) and I cursed loudly at the monitor when I got Summon as my sub-weapon instead of Zero-Shift (I guess it takes priority). Still, I kept going and had a reasonable stage 5, with some incredibly lucky nice dodging at the boss. Orbit and Burning were my other weapons.

Stage 5 has to be one of my favourite shmup stages ever. I've been listening to the music on loop for the past 24 hours.

No Miss Creator 1cc (replay). Got through stages 1-4 with a little help from Burning, and deliberately missed a couple of life DNA so I could get Zero-Shift for stage 5. And Zero-Shift completely breaks the game. Here's hoping for a future patch or something.

Score wasn't anywhere near as good as that last clear, which was probably due to not having Summon for the stage 5 meteor shower.

Creator final boss (beginning at embryo form) with no bombs/deaths, using default weapons only. Embryo form goes down in about 15 seconds. The pre-boss orb spam went fairly smoothly, and the boss itself was generally fine except for that goddamn bird attack which I somehow survived twice through a combination of luck and more luck. Also miraculously managed to react to his laser surprise attack in time despite it being 5:30AM.

Okay, no more cluttering up the topic now.

I didn't have any problems with desync when I used speed up to get through a replay.

Yeah, I know what I said in that last post, but I redid that Creator end-boss run with no bombs/deaths to get a better boss fight. Since the order and frequency of his attacks are completely random (apart from his opener), it's possible for the fight to be anywhere between really easy and really difficult, and that previous one was definitely leaning towards easy. This one was (slightly) more challenging.

I didn't have any problems with desync when I used speed up to get through a replay.

Eh, my Original mode replays all desync on stage 5 whenever I fast forward. Free mode replays of that stage aren't affected though.

Well, I was really bored so I did this.

Ship One, no free movement, 60 stock, Item Rate 0, 4000% power clear of the final stage. I ended with about 35 stock.

I swear to God I'm finished with this game now. A NB/D run of the Creator end boss with Item Rate set to 50%, which is basically equivalent to doing two perfect regular runs back-to-back. The replay de-syncs 80% of the time by spawning the wrong enemies, but occasionally it'll work properly. I used Graze instead of the default shot to make things more interesting.

Spoiler:
that embryo boss? Because there you have to shoot the glowing orbs so that they all have the same color to proceed

So that's what it was.  Thank you!  Going to give another go at a speed run.
