holy crap posting from Russia

I apologise for my not being able to be in the IRC session, so could someone please transcribe all the really relevant discussions if they come up (within reason, of course)? Specifically details on the plot so that we may start building character relationships, other characters' details, stuff like that.

Not a lot of (public) plot discussion happened, mostly just crunch stuff. As a side note, here's the list of what people are confirmed to be playing:

UK - Shoe, Hengeyokai Domain Wizard
A cat that was experimented on and gained magical skills by observing and stealing from her captors. Will be at the epicenter of the planar disaster.

Pesco - Wukki, Ewok Scout
An ewok. Nub nub!

Fightest - Axis, Gold Dwarf Fighter/Crusader
A dwarf that grew up on the mean streets of Sigil, and was exiled by doing something utterly unspeakable involving the Lady of Pain.

theshim - Alric, Human Duskblade
A gritty and somewhat paranoid fighter. His temple told him he was destined to die for a great cause; he bailed, and really doesn't like religious types because of it.

Arashi - Liadan, Jaebrin Conjuror
A fey raised among elves. (Further details in development.)

SDrake - Mina, Human Cleric
A very quiet and withdrawn girl who abhors violence; she can't bring herself to harm another person. She and her sisters are wanted by an organization of mages for their unusual power to manipulate extradimensional space. She is not entirely human, as she has a cat tail. (Note: has human stats)

Xan - Sidriss, Dromite Wilder
A detective working to earn money (and information) on behalf of it's fellow Dromites. It has a strong personal sense of morals and a sense of professionalism, but despite it's chosen occupation it doesn't care much for the actual law of the land. (Note: Dromites have no gender.)

Moerin - Rin, Aasimar Bard
Rin Satsuki, a celestial kirin from Gensokyo. A planar traveler.

Undecided:
Rabbit (starting his own game?)
Nobu (hasn't settled on anything)
Mr_Bob (probably playing a cleric, but details not laid out)

Hey guys after some careful thought it has occured to me that running a party with over ten people is probably not such a hot idea. I think we probably should split into two groups. Who among us thinks they'd also be capable of DMing a game?

I wish I would be remotely capable of DMing. Sadly, I don't have enough experience to be at all likely to do anything other than completely freaking fail at it.

Oof, I could, but am adamant to actually play in a game, as opposed to running it. So I'm not stepping forward.

I always used to DM with my friends, but a) that was 3.0 CORE ONLY, so I don't know most of everything else (I'd never heard of most of the races and classes we're using), and b) I'd really like to PLAY a game for once, so...I don't think I can.

The mountain of reading required for this is making me want to drop. Not that I'm disinterested, but that I will likely not have the time to be able to commit in the long run. Best remove me so long.

Well, besides the fact I've never DM'd and would be ass at it, this is the first character I've ever made that I'm seriously looking forward to playing as a character rather than just looking forward to playing the game.

Oh, it's not crossing as such. She was probably as surprised and shocked as everyone else was. But it's none of the things that she explicitly calls a no-no in Sigil.

Posting here for clarification. I've been reading the DnD books for a while now, and while I'd like to be ready in time to play, I'll need a bit more time before I think I'll actually have everything done. (As it stands, I'm choosing between a human ranger or human scout.)

I'm usually on IRC, but I'll post more details for everyone here when I work things out.

I'm usually on IRC, but I'll post more details for everyone here when I work things out.

As I've currently nothing better to do, I'll post a few comments:

- Both are nature-ey classes and both work in two mutually exclusive ways that you'll have to choose when making the character - ranged or melee.
- Ranger has limited spellcasting, but what he gets is quite hardcore. Also an animal companion, which can be useful.
- Scout has all the skill points in the world, and the class skills to put them to good use (note that disable device is a scout class skill by errata), and I would personally recommend you play the Scout just so that we actually have someone with a high emphasis on skills.
- Combat contribution-wise, the Ranger makes for the best straight fighter of the two due to full BAB. Due to the way the ranger works, you will be focusing on Dexterity no matter if you're melee or ranged, so you won't be doing much damage. Favoured Enemy will help offset that, though.
- The Scout, on the other hand, can pump out damage well due to Skirmish being easy as cake to activate.
- In terms of survivability, I'd say Scout wins out despite the lower Hit Die due to, again, Skirmish being easy as cake to activate, as well as getting both uncanny dodge and evasion very quickly. Stick yourself in a Mithril Breastplate and you can get a very respectable Armor Class.
- You will notice that I'm going on about the Scout a lot, and that's because it's my favourite class outside the more esoteric splats.
- That said, if I recall correctly, you might be able to get the best of both worlds with the pseudo-gestalt feats in Complete Scoundrel (I believe) that give you class features from two classes, and I believe Scout/Ranger was one of the available combos.

Scout is cool beans. One of the things I'd been considering in this campaign originally had some scout levels, but I didn't want to step on Pesco's toes at the time. :V

And yeah, some of the multi-classing feats are in CAdv, but all the Scout ones are in CSco. I know there's Swift Hunter for Scout/Ranger, and I know there's one or two others for Scout, but Swift Hunter's the main draw because those two classes have a lot of synergy in fluff especially and the feat gives them a good bit in crunch as well.

Apologies to everyone who thought we were starting today, we'll be starting next week for certain. I'll be hammering out everyone's starting positions during the week so watch your PM box!

Moving on...

SDrake wanted the ability to pull things out of gaps and we couldn't figure out how to write it as a racial ability so I put together a little PrC for it! Actually, it was just going to be three levels, but as I wrote it I expanded it to the full ten. Mina can take as few or as many levels as she wants. It's written as a divine caster class, and loses one caster level in exchange for a permanent storage gap, and eventually a few uses of a weakened Dimension Door/Dimensional Anchor. I wasn't sure how to figure out the DC for saving against falling objects, as strangely there doesn't seem to be any rule for it in core, only damage...

Code: [Select]
Extradimensional Adept

Hit Die: d8.
Requirements: Knowledge (The planes) 8 ranks, ability to cast divine spells, must have visited a plane other than her
home plane at some point.
Class Skills: Concentration, Craft, Escape Artist, Hide, Knowledge (Arcana), Knowledge (Religion),
Knowledge (The planes), Move Silently, Profession, Search, Sleight of Hand, Spellcraft, Spot.
Skill Points at Each Level: 2 + Int modifier.

BAB Fort Ref Will Features Dimension Shift Spells
1st +0 +2 +0 +2 Extradimensional Storage I, Dimension Shift 30 ft, 100 lbs -
2nd +1 +3 +0 +3 Storage Transfer 40 ft, 100 lbs +1 level
3rd +2 +3 +1 +3 Shift Self 40 ft, 200 lbs +1 level
4th +3 +4 +1 +4 Extradimensional Storage II 50 ft, 200 lbs +1 level
5th +3 +4 +1 +4 Dimension Anchor 50 ft, 300 lbs +1 level
6th +4 +5 +2 +5 Shift Ally 60 ft, 300 lbs +1 level
7th +5 +5 +2 +5 Extradimensional Storage III 60 ft, 400 lbs +1 level
8th +6 +6 +2 +6 Quickened Shift 70 ft, 400 lbs +1 level
9th +6 +6 +3 +6 Shift Other 70 ft, 500 lbs +1 level
10th +7 +7 +3 +7 Extradimensional Storage IV 100 ft, 500 lbs +1 level

Spells per Day/Spells Known
At each level after 1st, when a new Extradimensional Adept level is gained, the Adept gains new spells per day (and
spells known, if applicable) as if she had also gained a level in a spellcasting class she belonged to before she added
the prestige class. She does not, however, gain any other benefit a character of that class would have gained. If she
had more than one spellcasting class before becoming an Extradimensional Adept, she must decide to which class she adds
the new level for purposes of determining spells per day.

Extradimensional Storage (Su):
A Extradimensional Adept is able to cut a small hole in the fabric of reality, and reach into an extradimensional
personal stash that she can access anywhere. Treat this class feature as being in permanent possession of a Bag of
Holding (Type I). However, the Extradimensional Storage cannot be pierced (or otherwise damaged) or turned inside out,
as a Bag of Holding can. It will also not allow a Portable Hole to enter it. At 4th level, the Extradimensional Storage
expands as a Type II Bag of Holding; at 7th level, it expands as a Type III Bag of Holding; at 10th level, it expands as
a Type IV Bag of Holding.

Dimension Shift (Su):
An Extradimensional Adept has the uncanny ability to warp objects through extradimensional space, teleporting them
anywhere within her area of effect. To use Dimension Shift, the Adept chooses a single, nonmagical, unattended object
and an open space to move it to; both must be within her line of effect and within the maximum range of the ability. The
object is instantly teleported to the chosen destination. Using Dimension Shift is a standard action that provokes
attacks of opportunity. Dimension Shift can be used a number of times per day equal to 1 + your wisdom modifier. If
extradimensional travel by the object or at the destination is blocked, Dimension Shift simply fails.

Objects can be shifted in any direction, up or down, as long as the destination is within the Adept's line of effect;
heavy objects might fall onto creatures below and do falling damage to them. In this case, creatures may make a reflex
save (DC 15, +1 for every 100 pounds of the object) to avoid any damage.

The maximum range of Dimension Shift is 30 ft, and it can move an object up to 100 lbs in weight. At level 2 and each
even-numbered level thereafter the maximum range increases by 10 ft. At level 10, the maximum range jumps to 100 ft. At
3rd level and each odd-numbered level thereafter, the maximum weight of an object that can be moved by Dimension Shift
increases by 100 pounds.

Storage Transfer (Su):
At 2nd level, the Extradimensional Adept can use her Dimension Shift ability to move objects to or from her
Extradimensional Storage. If the Storage doesn't have enough room to hold the object, the ability fails.

Shift Self (Su):
At 3rd level, the Extradimensional Adept can use her Dimension Shift ability on herself. This allows her to teleport
anywhere she could shift an object to using this ability (except her Extradimensional Storage). She carries any objects
she has with her (up to her maximum load), but no other creatures can be brought along.

Dimension Anchor (Su):
The 5th level, the Extradimensional Adept can use her powers to block extradimensional movement, by reversing the powers
she uses to facilitate it. This ability takes one use of Dimension Shift. The target of this ability must make a Will
save (DC 15 + your wisdom modifier) or be subject to the effects of a Dimensional Anchor spell. The target must be within
the range of your Dimension Shift, and be medium size or smaller. You can use this ability on a creature larger than
medium size, but it requires one additional use of the Dimension Shift per size category above medium.

Shift Ally (Su):
At 6th level, the Extradimensional Adept can use her Dimension Shift on a single willing creature of medium size or
smaller. This is used in the same manner as shifting an object (again, you cannot move a creature into your
Extradimensional Storage). You can shift a creature larger than medium size, but it requires one additional use of the
Dimension Shift per size category above medium.

Quickened Shift (Su):
At 8th level, the Extradimensional Adept can use her Dimension Shift, or any of her other abilities that make use of it,
as a swift action once per day.

Shift Other (Su):
At 9th level, the Extradimensional Adept can use her Dimension Shift on unwilling creatures of medium size or smaller.
This is used in the same manner as shifting an object (again, you cannot move a creature into your Extradimensional
Storage), but an unwilling subject may make a Will save (DC 15 + your wisdom modifier) to be unaffected. You can shift a
creature larger than medium size, but it requires one additional use of the Dimension Shift per size category above medium.

But wait! There's more! As desired by SDrake, this highly intricate Prc will grant Mina the ability to turn into a panther!

Code: [Select]
Panther Person

Hit Die: d8
Requirements: Ability to cast 2nd level divine spells, Knowledge (Nature) 7 ranks.
Class Skills: Concentration, Craft, Diplomacy, Handle Animal, Heal, Knowledge (Nature), Listen, Profession, Ride,
Spellcraft, Spot, Survival, Swim.
Skill Points at Each Level: 4 + Int modifier.

BAB Fort Ref Will Features Spells
1st +0 +2 +0 +2 You Can Turn into a Panther! +1 level

Spells per Day/Spells Known
When a level of Panther Person is gained, the character gains new spells per day (and spells known, if applicable)
as if she had also gained a level in a spellcasting class she belonged to before she added the prestige class. She
does not, however, gain any other benefit a character of that class would have gained. If she had more than one
spellcasting class before becoming a Panther Person, she must decide to which class she adds the new level for
purposes of determining spells per day.

You Can Turn Into a Panther! (Su):
You can turn into a panther. Treat this as the Druid's Wild Shape ability, except the only form available is a
panther (use the statistics for the Leopard in the Monster Manual). A Panther Person is proficient with all natural
weapons she uses in this form.

At first I was worried about certain aspects of Extradimensional Adept, but the utility powers are nothing but (aside from the later offensive ones), so that's all fine. I still have a few points, however:

- That Class Skill list is way too expansive for a Divine caster, and any caster as a whole.
- At least Dimensional Anchor should be a Spell-Like Ability, maybe some of the Dimension Door variants as well. That would make the DCs on that not as static by being (10 + 1/2 level + Wis mod), which makes the ability scale better, I feel.

Ah okay. Offhand I wasn't really sure how PrCs handled SLAs but that scaling DC thing sounds better than the arbitrary values I put down. I'll adjust it later.

Quick question here.

I've had a huge hankering for playing a tabletop RPG over the past few weeks and have a bit of experience with playing 3.5e irl and over skype. I've read through this thread and am wondering if that 2nd campaign that was mentioned might occur and if such is that case if a sudden newcomer (myself) would be welcomed or too much of a hassle to incorporate or what have you?

Mima - sorry but I don't think it would be wise for me to accept any more players in my already large party, and it doesn't look like anyone wants to step up and DM another game.

Good session today guys. For anyone who missed it:
- I plan to have sessions both next Saturday and Sunday, to help finish up the individual scenarios. This won't be the norm though, I can't really handle two sessions per week :V
- We will be starting at 12:30 PM on Sundays from now on, per UK's request.

Short summary of scenarios thus far:
- Axis and Rin: Travelled to a ruined mage's tower to find a portal that would lead Rin back to Gensokyo. It collapsed and sent them off course.
- Mina: Attacked by men from an organization that had captured her once before; sucked into her own gap when she tried to reach into it to retrieve an item while attempting to escape.
- Sidriss: Hired to guard some sort of scepter, but discovered it already missing by the time he got on the scene. Tracked the culprit to the sewers, but the scepter went wild and created a void that pulled the two of them in.
- Kaoli: Went on a journey to discover new methods of metalworking, in the name of her god, Suwa-no-hime. A passerby offered to take her on a shortcut to the mainland; the shortcut turned out to be through Makai. After getting lost inside, a demon agreed to lead them out if she was set free, but the portal out of Makai went haywire, pulling the group in and scattering them in a dark abyss.
- Liadan: Attended an opening ceremony and party in a high-class city demiplane, which included (among other things) the unveiling of a masterfully made large sculpture. The sculpture was stolen in the middle of the ceremony, and Liadan managed to track down the culprits when she recognized one of the thieves. Just as it seemed the statue would be recovered, the portal through which it was to be shipped destabilized and started pulling the mountain and everything in it inside.

June, Alric, and Shoe remain to be done.
