Hey guys, anyone here know the name of this program? Asking here because Utena told me to. :V
They think I'll think that they'll do (A) so they'll do (B) because I wouldn't think they'd think of that but then because they might think I know what they're thinking they'll do (A) after all because I wouldn't think they'd think that way.

the problem with #3 is that it requires a collaborative effort between a lot of different groups and someone willing to host all of this data and front the bill for the bandwidth usage

Aw, that's too bad.

EDIT: I was going to ask about an image, but then I realized that I could google the text of the .jpg filename.

I am curious about the perma-banned avatar though. I'd like to know if there is a color version.

This thread is for asking miscellaneous questions about Touhou rather than site mechanics, so you might have better luck PMing a mod.

Captain H., feel free to accept me as your new god.

Through mine own efforts, I have remastered the banned pic into color.
Yes it stinks, but this is what you get for free labor, so enjoy it.

Oriental Memory of Forgathering Dream and Broken are the same theme, but remixed and play during different places, right?  The former is the credit theme for Touhou 7.5 while the latter plays before you fight Suika and then later serves as her theme song in Touhou 10.5.  Fan-made remixes and vocals make me get those two confused on which is which...

Also, are extra stage bosses considered the true final bosses?  Take most Sonic games for example: The true final boss cannot be fought until you obtain all the Chaos Emeralds or something like that, but even when you defeat the "fake" final boss, you can still see the ending, though it's not the real one.  In Touhou, are the final bosses fought during the main playthrough considered "fake" final bosses while the extra stage ones are the real ones?

Thanks in advance!

Final bosses are generally the ones responsible for the incident that the game is based around.  Extra bosses are usually unrelated to the incident, but have connections to other characters or events in the game.  So in a story sense, no, extra bosses are not "true finals," though it is quite possible to argue this for Yukari and Nue.  And in a gameplay sense, they're more like the optional superbosses you unlock in a New Game Plus.  You have to get the true ending before you're able to access extra bosses, and in a couple cases you have to do it multiple times.

As for Suika, I'm no music expert, but I'd say that they're different pieces arranged around the same theme.  Also of note is that this theme also is reprised for part of the SWR ending as well.
Life and death are without purpose.  Our attempts to give them one are quite presumptuous of us.  But in the end, we exist, and that is enough.

Current status: Dissuading deliberately choking for imagined fame.

Not sure if this will get an answer, but did ZUN compose Suwa Foughten Field or Player's Score first?  Nereid says it might be the former, but I'm not sure.

I don't think anyone actually knows for sure, but if there is some obscure source for it somewhere, I dunno what it is.

Since he still uses the "Player's Score" theme for games after that (including a remix for Fairy Wars), and he almost never re-uses/remixes music unless it's in the menu, that means one of two things: he made Player's Score first and Suwa Foughten Field was a reference to it, or he's lazy and didn't want to compose a new score screen theme. Either one is possible.

Yeah, I was thinking more of the former.  Anyways, no point in wasting time thinking it over.

Eek, crap, is Phantasm Romance supposed to be free?
« Reply #887 on: December 11, 2010, 04:13:48 AM »
I thought it was openly free since it's a danfumaku script, and the place I downloaded it from wasn't a place I was aware of that had piracy (shmup forum, whatever it's called). But after looking for Concealed the conclusion, I discovered that it is supposed to be purchased (CtC that is), and I'm getting a nagging suspicion that Phantasm Romance isn't supposed to be free either (I didn't know! *sobs*). The reason why I need to know for certain is because I publicized where you can download it somewhere to encourage people to try what I thought is free, but I'll have to take that down if I screwed up.

Does she use the 12 month calendar, or the cycles of the moon? This has been bugging me for a while, actually.

Eirin has probably invented a superior callender that auto corrects for the changes in earth's orbit.

However Gensoukyo in general uses the Lunisolar callendar with it's leap months and whatnot.

Perhaps. It's also possible that she turned some rabbits into satellites and used magic(hax) to send them into orbit, and send the information back.

So I was reading karaagetarou's latest comic on danbooru, and a comment by one of the translators there jumped out at me:

Quote from: WAHa 06x36
It bothers me that nobody's actually translating the descriptions of powers in Touhou right. In this case [danbooru link], it's not "power to manipulate age", but rather something more along the lines of "enough power to manipulate age" or perhaps "about as much power as one would need to manipulate age".

All of ZUN's descriptions of powers are phrased like that. "About as much power as one would need to manipulate destiny", "about as much power as one would need to eat history". It's hard to find a good English phrasing for that that isn't awkward or too long, I suppose, but the way the Touhou wiki translations just leave it out entirely feels like you lose a very basic part of the charm.

Is this accurate? That is, is there a systematic mistranslation/misrepresentation of the Touhou girls' abilities on the english wiki in the manner so described?

I'd have to agree on that one, since almost all that ability phrasings in Japanese are in
○○                程度の                               能力
with as much power to             ability
So ZUN writes those abilities as if they aren't anything of as much power or significance (when the power is actually really significant)
Well, but then again, this word's charm might be lost if you phrase it in to english so, I'm not really complaining -Since I can't do any better

What you see in those videos is the "piano roll" feature that can be found in midi editing software. (for example, SynthFont)
I can't identify what program they are using, but why do you ask ?

Piano roll? Thanks for telling me. Now I have to find programs that have that feature. I want to compose my own music and upload it to places like YouTube, and I've been looking for a program like the ones I linked to for ages now. The kind of program that I'm looking for is one that has that "piano roll" feature and is simple to use and easy on the eyes.
