I remember reading somewhere that they were game testers for ZUN, but I have no idea just how true that is.

I've heard this, and that Ant and Fang were artists. What I'm asking isn't what people heard but what actually is the case.

"Human history and growth are both linked closely to strife. Without conflict, humanity would have no impetus for growth. When humans are satisfied with their present condition, they may as well give up on life."

Sooooo... If Marisa likes flashy magic only, ismthere any reason why she doesn't like thunder/lightning based spells? Isn't that pretty much flashy by definition!?
She never said that she automatically likes it if it's flashy, just that she doesn't like non-flashy. Marisa's personal style is stars and frickin' huge laser beams; lightning doesn't really fit there.

I made an attempt to find this out for you, but all I turned up were dead ends. 9/10 trails I landed upon led right back to this very forum. Unless someone who knows Japanese can search this out, I'm afraid i can't help you.

Well, in any other game's credits, if you try searching for anyone under "special thanks" you don't get many relevant results. I guess that's not much different even if they're two-thirds of the entire credits. They're probably just ZUN's friends.

Also, as for the Cirno-running-into-enemies question (and it also applies to all other player characters in the games). Melee attacks are forbidden in danmaku battles. If you run very close to an enemy, it is assumed you are going to use a melee attack, and therefore you are punished for breaking the rules, which is equivalent to one hit.
...or it's just game mechanics. Pick whichever one you want.

Who are "ant" and "Fang", exactly?
In the little look around I did, all were rumors and nothing gave an answer...
So, I'll just leave the rumors here...

1) Debuggers / game testers
2) ZUN's friends (possibly from work?)
3) ZUN's joke, put them together and...

But personally, I like the Touhou BBS answer to this question, which was:
"If it's touhou, there should be a few unanswered questions"

Question:
I was wondering if anyone who has Gensou shoujyou taisen (Super Robot Wars, Touhou parody) might know how to get to the text files inside it and if it's temper-able.
I wanted to see if I can translate this using some of my time that I use for translations anyways...
Or should I make a new post of this in Rika and Nitori's Garage?

Thanks in advance~ =)

I remember reading an official manga (found it at Touhou Wiki) that is about Tokiko forgetting what her real name is due to Keine's meddling, I think...  Anyway, Patchouli gave her a new one, but she doesn't like it and so knocked out the librarian.  What was the name that Patchouli gave her again?  I can't remember the title of that manga either...

Thanks in advance!

EDIT: She strangled her, not knock her with physical blows.

Just because it is on the wiki doesn't mean it's canon; the wiki is the repository for many, many doujins.

The doujin is [Altenotiz] What's Your Name? from Crimson Fantasy 2.

I'm aware that not everything on the wiki is canon, though I remember that manga is canon...  Must've remembered it wrong.

Anyway, thanks!

The canon manga are all clearly labeled in the Print Works section on the front page :|

I think I know what he means.
When you see the  (cannon thingy which I cannot remember, I think it was a book), there is a section that says "comics" but I highly doubt those are cannon.

I also doubt this, because comics are comics and cannons blow holes in ships

Buying a present...
« Reply #858 on: November 19, 2010, 06:40:06 AM »
So, I wanted to get one of my friends a Touhou product for the upcoming holiday season, preferably one of the official games.
But himeyashop is out of stock on all of the games (haha), so I looked at paletweb, since that stated in that stickied topic, it would be the best place to buy the games.

But I'm kind of turned away by that english, but that's not the issue. How exactly do you order with them? I recall trying to place an order with them before, but I couldn't figure something out. I heard, though, that they email you precise instructions, though, so, am I just missing something?

(Moreover, which game would be best for someone who can get to Nitori in MoF, using no bombs on Normal before game overing?)

I'm pretty sure most of the people here prefer getting their Touhou games from N-Forza.
Check out the Korindou sticky post under Renko and Maribel's excellent adventure boards. I generally get games from him about 2-4 weeks after I order them (I normally order a few at once, some hard to get a hold of, a zun-made game should be quicker) using snail mail, you can use express postage if you like. Just have paypal, all the details are there.

Is that so? Alright, thanks for that information. If everyone here would prefer to get games from him, I'll have to go take a look in that thread later.

(also, posting from a phone is tedious)

I just ordered a couple of games from Palet today, and I didn't find anything odd about it, except that I didn't get a total price from them yet (which will apparantly be emailed in a day or two). Hopefully, the shipping won't be too much...

Awhile back Fairuzons was one of my favorite posters on youtube, he had an hour long touhou battle with beautiful gimmicks, alot of game footage and one of my favorites was the letalis battle, composed of extremely difficult yet simple red and blue patterns, it had an amazing soundtrack.

At any rate he was banned long ago when his stuff was supposevly stolen (though I know nothing) and it makes me wonder where all the footage was from.

Also ive been looking for the letalis song its been forever, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EmLbtY3_dgM basically searching for the full version of the song used in this video.

The footage wasn't stolen, the scripts were. Half of them were taken from mkm (the creator of DNH) himself, from his website. Others were sporadically stolen from NicoNico where scripts were available. He just took them all and threw them into a giant plural. 90% of his videos were stolen (his music was not, I think), which wouldn't have been much of a problem if he actually explicitly mentioned where his videos came from. He never did, and never corrected anyone who praised "his" videos, which essentially means he was indirectly claiming them as his own. He never admitted to them being stolen, when being confronted about it.

This, coupled with the fact that he has legions of retardedly gullible fans, is why he's so hated. He was banned after repeatedly being reported, and made a new account that steals slightly less yet should still be reported.

Personally if I met him on the street I would punch him square in the face.

:>

He stole from one of my favorite old creators, TalonPain, who synced his danmaku videos to music from other Nico artists. Of course, Fairuzons changed the music, making these awesome scripts a lot less so. Fairuzons did a lot of this kind of thing in his heyday.

Well that answers that, but even knowing that his stuff is stolen its hard to find some of these tracks because if they were stolen he probably never wouldve given a lead, and the song im looking for doesnt sound like a touhou arrangement of any kind, nor does it sound familiar from any other game ive played, it makes me wonder if the song along with a few others are permanently lost, which if stolen shouldnt be the case...

I also wonder where you could get most of the content of the 1-hour danmaku queen battle

What's the significance of the name "Bhava-Agra?"

Apparently Bhava means emotion, and doubles as a Buddhist term. But Agra... I wouldn't be surprised if the two words put together meant something, but I can't figure out what.

1. Is there a way to get the permabanned avatar in color?

2.

Where does this image come from?

Edit:

3. When it comes to touhou fanworks, especially translations, the works seem to be dispersed, difficult to navigate and browse, unorganized, and uncentralized.

Is there a location to browse the works that
1. Allows for browsing rather than downloading,
2. Is easy to search through, and
3. compiles all the translations from all over the web (in other words, has a mostly complete record of all the works that have been translated)?

the problem with #3 is that it requires a collaborative effort between a lot of different groups and someone willing to host all of this data and front the bill for the bandwidth usage
